In case anyone didn't know, when the live action movie came out, they gave viewers a short story written by the author that takes place ~20 years later from Haruki's teenage daughters' viewpoint. There isn't an official English translation as far as I can tell, but there are fan translations. Key elements are that Kyoko married gum guy and their oldest daughter is close friends with Haruki's daughter, showing that he has maintained a close relationship with Kyoko.
Watching this movie the first time was emotional re watching now , now that my father has Pancreatic cancer was a whole different vibe and emotions Guys please spend time with the people you love and tell them that you love and appreciate them
I've watched this movie long ago so it didn't hit he hard as much as the first time I've watched it, but what hit me is when you explained the thing about the haircut on 54:22 , I shouldn't dump my personal stuff here but, I actually promised myself that I'd get a haircut when I feel like I'm satisfied with the state I'm living in.... that was 4 years ago. I still haven't got a haircut. I'm now 4 years behind of my high school friends, they'll graduate on college next year and I still haven't even started college yet. Family problems and stuff~ But still, I'm grateful that my friends are still hanging out with me, at least I'm not lonely because of them~!
Your not four years behind anything. Your pace is your own and yours alone. I know it's so easy to compare cause they're the same age as you, but all lives are different, doesn't mean the one who gets something done the fastest means the better. In one area of life you may be way ahead or way behind this made up line but that's all meaningless. Life is what you make it, not how fast you do. Wish you nothing but the best, one step at a time and you'll get there just fine.
It would be nice if you saw "Josee, the tiger and the fish". That movie is so pretty. The gum guy was hitting on Kyoko at the end credit xD so they are just friends. Reading "el principito" (as i know it in spanish), helps to make the farewell scene much more impactful.

26:30 my take on that is like any other girls flirting with boys and leading them on, but when the boy snapped and make a move, the girl gets taken aback because she don't actually want it, she's just teasing him. When they do that then bail, It doesn't necessarily mean they don't like the guy, it's just too much forward to have it happen too soon (still depends on the girl, but that's the gist of it). In her case, she don't have the leisure of time, so she tries everything in her bucket list, but not everything is easy as it seems once you're in those situation where you rush things you wouldn't normally rush.
I'm glad you accepted the plot twist for what it really is and fully understood what it conveys. Too many people are hating on it or making fun of it. Life is unpredictable. You don't know WHEN or HOW people will die. There will be no dramatized farewell speeches or something like that irl. Even if you have terminal illness, you still don't know when you will go (even if you do die of that illness). When it's your time, it's your time, even if you are "fully living your life".
Those people just hate plot twists in general and have a superiority complex about making them look like the fool even though that's the point of plot twists, to be misdirected into believing one thing and twist the plot that there's something they didn't account for when predicting the plot, also most likely people don't like this twist because people think it's too random, but it's not random they just missed the signs on the news that shows the stabbing is going on
@@realglutenfree people say it's an ass pull or too random or too sudden, like they expect she'll die of her illness and they'll have the typical soap operaish farewell speech as she takes her last breath in his arms. I have bad news for them, real life doesn't give you that luxury.
I read this book with no knowledge whatsoever I thought it was an odd name for a books o picked it up and bought it, read it In one sitting and the end made me cry,
I think at the end Kyoko was talking about dating the gum guy, not Haruki. That's why she says "I've taken a liking to it recently", because I guess he kept offering her gum too. Maybe I'm misunderstanding, but it sounded like you thought that Haruki and Kyoko are dating, idk :D
I made that mistake, and just realised the way she referred to dating him rather than 'you'... the gum hint always made me feel I'd missed something: and I had! A great film, full of subleties.
rewatching this movie makes me fill like I should live life to the fullest, I hope something the same happens to everyone because it's so easy to forget
Oh this is crazy timing, I literally just watched this film a couple days ago! Excited to see you guys react to this film, since I really enjoyed it. A lot of people are going to say this, probably, but the fact the film reveals Sakura's death right at the beginning puts in Haruki's shoes of knowing Sakura's going to die soon and yet still forming a connection with her. The plot twist being a fatal reminder that we cannot *ever* take the time we or others ave for granted.
This literally made me not care about spoilers… yea knowing what’s happening at the end doesn’t really matter what it led to that is the important thing
Seeing you upload movie reactions makes me disappointed that you never uploaded your Kaguya-sama movie reaction to YT. Rewatching the show with you was entertaining, only to get left wanting for the movie.
Regarding Kaguya when we filmed it we didn’t have enough time to edit the movie, we didn’t have editors and Cara was working full time still, we lost the files since hence why the reaction was never edited later, we posted it on Patreon but the YT side of things unfortunately never happened
(I have not much done with this kind of old Anime setting's. still to this Day, Hrm. but): oh, scrap.... and a strong (well....kin- actually, no. nevermind) romantically-involved one at that. oh, darn....
