      I'd definitely recommend the game. They've made it a lot better since launch, and there's a massive expansion coming out for it in a couple of months. I think the anime takes place the year before the game, but I'm not sure. If you do play it, please upload the playthrough somewhere. Here, or patreon works. There's also some references and items to the anime in the game that you can get, I'd watch your playthrough of the game in its entirety.

    7:45 It's not Lucy, it's Sasha Yakovleva - joined the Main team as a netrunner along with Dario and Rebecca. The video showed how she hacked secret data and saw information about painkillers that her mother Galina took when she was sick. Sasha, determined to do right by her mother, started to upload the entire Securicine database file to the N54 News tipline and activated a bomb in consequence of getting detected. As a result, she died. This is another sad story.

    Okay, that music video is set BEFORE the events of Edgerunners. Sasha was the Netrunner for Maine's crew before Kiwi and Lucy joined. Her story was when she was a kid, her mother was taking those Securicine painkillers, which ended up killing her due to those undisclosed side effects. So when Sasha stumbled across that file, she decided to blow the whistle on it, even tho she knew she wouldn't survive it. The kid she was hugging in the ending was her younger self, as she finally got closure for what happened, even though it came at a hefty price.
    Also fun fact about the opening song, This Fffire, is it's cut down to remove the parts that say they'll burn the city, instead just leaving in "I'll burn" showing how self destructive David's journey was.

  • @monsterhunterayame4941
    @monsterhunterayame4941 ปีที่แล้ว +93

    My favorite thing about the OP is that This Fffire is a song about someone burning down the city around them until there's nothing left. The OP is cut in such a way that any reference to burning the city down is gone, so all that's left for the fire to burn is David, himself. Its so good.

  •  ปีที่แล้ว +42

    The OP is This Fffire by Franz Ferdinand.
    The Sasha story is basically a prequel or... at least is before the series, probably before they hired Lucy.
    I think her mother died because of those medicines, she figured it out and tried to tell it to the public and destroyed that facility and then died.

  • @infamousshinkicker6924
    @infamousshinkicker6924 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Notice how in the opening the "person" who shoots David in the head is a silhouette with images of the city within it. This symbolizes how the city is the villain and how David is a victim of the city (it ends up killing him). I think a quote in the game is "there are no happy endings in Night City"

  • @johnsimonson1207
    @johnsimonson1207 ปีที่แล้ว +10

    To answer your questions, This takes place maybe a year before Edgerunners. Sasha grew up watching her mom die from the side effects of the drug, became a netrunner and joined Maine's team. They had a gig where she breached Biotechnica, and she found evidence that Biotechnica knew the dangers of their medicine, and decided to send the info to N54 news before falling to her death. That scene was of her hugging and comforting her younger self, kind of like realizing that you had accomplished what your child self was not capable of.

    ... and cry a little every time "I really want to stay at your house" comes on the ingame radio

  • @kamuyking551

    I'm actually just now watching Edgerunners with my friends... it's taking a bit, because we've had a lot to watch simultaneously this season, between Golden Kamuy, Vinland Saga, Dr. Stone, and Witch from Mercury... but we're ending a lot of those seasons, so Edgerunners is gonna be our priority now! I'm super excited about it too, it looks gorgeous all the time!
    here's one more Dorohedoro mention... though yeah, I may not be as on it as the Bayblade person (bless them).
    oh, also, in terms of anime where the full ED presents a whole animated music video, the ending to the second season of Beastars does that. sort of. it's spoilers for part of the plot of season 2 (or rather, it might not make any sense unless you've seen it, and it reveals the fate of kind of a significant character in the full version), and it just continues off of the end of the main ED, rather than presenting something 100% unrelated... but yeah, that was the first one that came to mind for me.

  • @evafan84
    @evafan84 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Excluding the opening & Ending songs, most of the music in Edgerunners is taken directly from the in-game radio stations in Cyberpunk 2077. Which is exactly myself and many fans of the game were hoping for. It also helped develop new appreciation from some of the songs in the game, in particular; "Who's Ready for Tomorrow" by Rat Boy and of course "I Really Want to Stay at Your House" by Rosa Walton & Hallie Coggins.

  • @dagonofthedepths
    @dagonofthedepths ปีที่แล้ว +14

    The game is pretty dark. It's still the same city, with the same people, and the same rules. David's story is just another typical story in Night City. But hey he got a drink named after him so there's that. At the end, Sasha was coming to terms with her past before her death. The kid is herself, so she's comforting the part of her that had to watch her mother die and probably lead her to Maine's crew in the long run.

  • @ShapeshifterOS
    @ShapeshifterOS ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Sasha was comforting her past self finally resolving the past. That drug she saw and released to the news took her mother's life. In the Cyberpunk 2077 game this Biotechnica scandal is even talked about on the radio. The game has some content from the anime in it like Rebecca's shotgun.

  • @Konstantin3208
    @Konstantin3208 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    the game is quite dark when you realize that it quite reliably shows the world to which we are headily moving, but most likely this world will not have cool implants and flying cars. But, as in the game, there will be executions of trade union strikes, punitive psychiatry and so on, it is quite possible ...

    The game can be exponentially darker than the anime, depending on your choices. There is one instance where the ending lets you say goodbye to characters, and with the wrong choices your love interest leaves you with such a gut punch.

    Nope, she is that kid.
    The one on the sick bed was her mother.
    The second file she uncovered was uploaded and exposed to the public news site is a disclosed medicine that her mother took and eventually side effect took her mother's life.
    Would call that Sasha is doing her last breathe to expose that BioTechnica company's dirty sh!t.
    Sasha used to be Maine's team
    probably even before Kiwi join the team.
    (because I don't see Kiwi on the couch with rest of the members)
    In the Cyberpunk 2077 game, death is like a norm, (That explains the Episode 1's ambience of no emotional from anonymous)
    and survival the fittest. Many human turn to heavily chrome up, but a one-way leading to cyberpsychosis.
    so that's what felt so emotional for small, attached group like Maine's team.

    That music video btw Sasha sacrifices herself to get that news story out there to make a difference and you know what the kicker is? Nobody cares. Biotechnica the company she was reporting didn’t suffer a bit. You can still find bottles of that drug in the game that takes place several years later. She dies for nothing.
