I think by "air clutch" he meant "dry clutch". the 600 has a wet clutch. Only the 900, 1000, and 1100 (excluding the evo) have a dry clutch in the desmodue monsters. (the S4 series has them too). Basically the big ones (excluding the evo) do, but the littler ones don't.
Yes, it's the idle jet that's blocked, but once get in there better just clean everything. It could be a few reasons that bike turn over but not fire up,carb, battery and spark plugs are the most common cause.

have you removed and cleaned the caps (white) on the carb's sides?

Does your bike have immobilizers or sensors in the keys?
