    After finally fixing the starting issue on this Ducati Monster 620, I had another, much more complicating one to wrestle with. I eventually traced down the problem thanks to a forum post by "Brad".
    Here it is here: www.ducatimonsterforum.org/ind...
    It was surprising that this was the only thing on the net that actually explained the full process and how exactly to troubleshoot the problems. Probably down to my searching skills, but there you go.
    So, after numerous hours of searching, reading, looking for information left right and center, I finally got there. Then I tested the monster's stator, rec/rec and battery and away I went.

    Good video. Thx. Take home message- electrical problems in older Ducatis are always in the wiring, until proven otherwise. 😉

    Got an 04 M620 here, and I can attest to the weird wiring issues on these bikes. Had a headlight that kept popping bulbs. Checked the wiring and one of the wires was so stiff that it felt like it would snap if I bent it at all. The odd thing was that it was nowhere near any heat source. My guess is that maybe some water got in there and caused the wire to corrode. That was about 8 years ago. Now that the bike is much older, I am expecting to start running into issues such as yours. Hope you're still riding. Thanks for the vid. And, if you haven't yet.. definitely put a fuse on that regulator wire.

    Hi! Thanks for this! Was looking for a solution to a bad connection on my 848 but i ended up here. Seems likely this will be something that will come up on that bike as well as my monster 620. Pleasant watching! Br Per

      I think in the newer Monsters they routed the wires differently so HOPEFULLY won’t be an issue 👍🤞

    Great video thank you! Quick question, I’m still testing as we speak, but I have the same issue new battery came in and started right up. So when you say you spliced those red wires, did you completely bypass the original connection that Ducati did from the reg/rec to the battery and spliced in your described connection or are you using both connections?

    • @VroomBroomZoom
      @VroomBroomZoom  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm sorry, I do not completely remember, but I think I spliced both. Don't quote me :P

    • @Jas6avant
      @Jas6avant 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@VroomBroomZoom gotcha, no worries! I appreciate it, my stator isn’t top notch health wise but the bike runs well now with the bypass connection you displayed. Those old wires really were choking the current. Bike runs a lot better and the battery finally keeps a full charge. Also changed out the rectifier looks like it was over heating a lot because of poor connection

    Thanks for the video. Had this exact issue and your fix solved the issue for my 2001 monster. Was running great for about 6 months but recently starting to have issue of not enough spark/too much fuel. plugs wet, sputtering and dying on first quarter of throttle. Just wondering if anyone else has had this issue as well, or if there are any suggestions for troubleshooting? cheers.

    My 2016 Monster 1200s headlight and rear light still on even when the key is off. This always happen after heavy rain (I unplug the battery before and took few days to get it back running normal again). I try to unplug the connection, meter, ecu, black box one by one and today I found it turns out the fuse (3A) for the ‘diagnostics’ will make these lights turn off. Any advice man?

    • @VroomBroomZoom
      @VroomBroomZoom  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well done for locating the issue. 👏 From here, I’d say check out the forums, try a lower/higher rated fuse (but that can be very risky).

    had this exact issue for my 848 evo 2011 but in my case the old rec reg when idle got 13.4 - 14.1 volt. when i twist the throttle to high rpm it can be 14.8 until 15's someting. so i bought a new rec reg it cost $25, i plug the new rec reg my 848 evo still have a issue the voltage so high.. for idle i got 14.5 - 15's when high rev gor HI voltage... any recommendation sir ? btw the battery is brand new

      I’m only an amateur mechanic (very amateur), so take everything a say with a big grain of salt. If you’re getting a spike when applying throttle, I’d say your stator is the problem. You’ve swapped out the rec/reg, so unless it’s also faulty, is has to be the stator. 👌

    my regulator was dead for some time and I thought it was a bad battery… then it wouldn’t kickstart and I was in the middle of the M25 ring of London on the way to a catch a ferry in Dover…had to have the bike towed, speedcharge the battery, and replace the regulator…they charged around 200 for it 😂 the towing itself was only 60…
    nice to hear you got the part for 25 🥲

    • @VroomBroomZoom
      @VroomBroomZoom  ปีที่แล้ว

      That sounds like bargain towing compared to here in Australia. Glad you got home safe👍

    Many mc charging systems are the same as your Ducati’s. What I’ve found the problems to be
    are in the connectors and wiring size. The 3 yellow stator wires on my 98 Honda VFR are about 16ga. while the 3 yellow wires to the rec/reg are closer to 12-14ga. wire. If the battery has low voltage and one gets his bike started, the current flowing through the connector (stator to rec/reg) may have enough resistance (due to corrosion, poor connection, etc) to even melt the plastic connector housing! Also, a poor connection to the btry’s neg. post can overheat the attached wiring.
    But your video is informative, good work.
