  • @lrowlands53
    @lrowlands53 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    When people tell me my Ducati is going to blow up I just say it’s a racing clutch and is supposed to sound like that. Whatever the bike, the key is how it feels to ride - most Ducatis feel amazing, like if only I was on track I would be ripping like crazy. Not great for shopping but sublime for carving. Feedback in bucket loads, stable as and mostly forgiving. Great review Sean.

  • @doofwop

    I have an 07 S4R Testastretta currently, this is my 5th Ducati. The Monsters are not too bad on the maintenance, I've had few troubles with mine. It's the superbikes you might want to pass on, as they are track-oriented and none too street friendly. I had a 998 Final Edition and didn't like it, it actually hurt to ride it. But it was fast. The dry clutch is a racing clutch. It's light, can be swapped out in 10 minutes trackside, and doesn't pollute the engine oil with friction material from the friction plates. These are the reasons for the dry clutch. Now they are no longer made, all Ducs are wet clutch. I'm not fond of the rattle either but for me the rest of the bike more than makes up for it. Some people love the rattle.
    You're too hard on the Ducatis, they're tough bikes mechanically and sound amazing as you mentioned. To me the best looking bikes on the road. The way they put the power down feels really good. Opening the throttle to full honk never gets old. They have quirks that will annoy some people, but all bikes will have them to some degree.

    My 1991 900ss, air cooled 900 cc engine. At 4000 miles I dropped Hi compression pistons in it and Kehein 39mm Carbs. In 59,000 miles I did oil changes, spark plug changes and adjusted exhaust valves 3 times and changed belts once. The only mechanical issue I had was a burnt out reg / rectifier. That bike was the most reliable and least expensive bike to maintain I've ever owned.

    it's true, Miguel Angel Galluzzi and massimo bordi had a bunch of 888 stuff lying around, but wanted to make a bike that competed in the naked craze, as the yamaha tenere, and transalps, and beemers were dominating that segment of the market.. he wanted a cheaper no frills, high tourque , streetable do everything bike, that had good dna and out performed the competition.. they were intended from the beginning to be modified by their owners and bring in revenue for their suppliers and italian components firms.. and bordi was correct, a whole industry grew up around the bike, try to find a bone stock monster out there.. from grips, to tail lights to bobbins, to seats, to exhaust, clutch covers, singnals, carbon bits, pegs, you name it , it's the kuryakin of europe.. rizoma termi, etc etc.. think they are on to 250,000 monsters sold.. so Bordi was on to something.. knew how to style the bike..
    Prior to this ducati had only the Indiana, a sort of magna/maxim x/elimnator clone , that wasn't to great a styling adventure.. they hit the mark with the monster..

      Srkcycles it will be something that would be comfortable doing longer distances. I lean towards Harley bikes but like you I like them all. That soft-tail custom you have is nice, so are the Fat Boys, and you have had Road Kings I could have pulled the trigger on too but timing is everything ....no long trips until I retire and that’s coming up soon I’m in my last year of employment. I’m not going to purchase a 3rd bike until I’m ready to use it. Tell ya what, when I’m getting close to make a move I’ll be a little more specific and perhaps you can hook me up. At my age a brand new bike just doesent make good sense and I enjoy wrenching on my own stuff. I’ve been practicing on a 2000 XL1200C that I bought back in 2012. I don’t touch my 2017 Ducati Scrambler Desert Sled, that bike is under warranty. Fun dirt road runner. Sportster is perfect for around here but not a road trip bike. I’ll be in touch. Keep tempting me , I will eventually break...🤣 in closing, I must mention how refreshing to see Gods light shining through your videos with the words of wisdom....May God bless your family and business, it’s getting darker and darker out there in America, now is the time to shine! Thankyou for responding to my comment. I think riding a motorcycle is the closest thing to having a heavenly body , if there is anything on this earth that’s close. Maybe flying an air plane too but for me that’s not gonna happen.

      @@Srkcycles They sure do and if I had a broken rod or worse I couldn't tell. It's sounds so bad, it's like I have to just give into to the idea that I don't always know what's going on. That's faith.

    The only Ducati I liked was the old inline 6 bikes . Those bikes screemed when you hit 10,000 and above . That was when Ducati really in their hay days in GP racing .

    stop using the clutch, just throttle down and shift without the clutch......you just use the clutch when you start from stand still.

    The monster is a naked Strada 888 from the beginning. Ducati owned by Lamborghini through Audi who's owned by Volkswagen and made Mr Buell build racing bikes of Harley Davidson's.
