Have you guys ever thought about reviewing the PowerSpec brand (Microcenter's house brand)? They consistently sell computers at, or below, the cost of DYI builds with the same specs. They're selling a 9900k, 2080, ROG Strix Z390E, 850W gold PSU with cablemod sleeves, 16 Gb Trident Z 3200 RAM, a 500Gb 970 EVO M.2 in a O11 Dynamic with a custom hard line loop using EKWB parts, including that distribution block they made for the O11 for $2500 (on sale pretty much continuously from $3000). Between the parts and the labor involved in installing the loop I simply do not see how they can do this.
And as per usual, they'd leave it going until 1:15 and nobody would notice because everyone skips the ads, until a TH-camr makes yet another video calling Walmart out on their shit. Then again, they could leave in the GN sponsor read and Steve would probably be fine with it. :)
I've spent most of my adult life working in retail. The reason it sat in a warehouse for a year is because Walmart, like most retailers, will see the computer as a single, finished, product that has a limited shelf life. When the software/hardware is out of date enough (how much, honestly, depends solely on its sales numbers, determined by computer programs and/or some eggheads in their sales and marketing divisions), they'll do exactly what they did and slash the prices, to sell the remaining stock before the product "goes bad" and they end up sitting on a bunch of, what they consider, non-sellable product that they lose a bunch of margin on. So, to answer your question: No, they learned nothing on this generation of pre-built PC, because this generation of pre-built PC was built and shipped to warehouses to capitalize on peak season sales, and that's it. They may, _may_ possibly learn from whatever next iteration they may create coming down the pike this peak, but considering Walmart's propensity to cut every single corner known to man to maximize their profit margin, I'd expect their build qualities to remain shitty, while masking those shitty builds with flagship components like GPU and CPU to catch the eye of people who are less informed and tech savvy, such as myself, if I'm to be completely truthful. Basically, pretty much all big-box retailers have no soul and don't care if their product sucks, so long as they sell enough of it for executives to buy their fifth gold-plated yacht. I'm not bitter at all.
I think the fact Walmart will drop a manufacturer’s contract over fractions of a penny and kill the company says enough. I know a guy who sold his company and within 2 years they got a Walmart contract. They had to ONLY work on Walmart’s orders and another company was brought in by Walmart, for literally a quarter of a penny per unit, and killed the business.
they absolutely didn't learned, and when there were a problem, the seller was always in the wrong "somehow" ( I was one for staples) like, when we didn't had computers to sell (gaming ones) for about 3 months, and we got shitted on by the customers, because of the things that happened in the canal. to remind you guys, I had to literally tell them that we couldn't have one, even if we tried to get it as soon as possible, it would take an "un-registered" time, which basically meant they didn't knew shit about the date at which we'd have them, and then people would storm out the door. (i've got no sour-ness toward the employee's) and the boss, since he actually did his job and fired me to get someone better qualified. I just like being completely transparent about the things i've learnt while I worked there.

by far THE BEST INTRO ive ever seen. The fog machine behind the pc was epic, the music got me in the mood and the let down on post made me blow my metaphorical load.....TY
I bet they were cheaping out on packing for shipping. "We don't need that more expensive expanding foam pack if we just glue things so they can't shake loose." :/ Idiots.
Dragonbreak I can hear the walmart 'Geek Squad' now. "Your PC won't boot up? Bring it in we'll take a look, it's probably a loose wire". Guy brings in pc. Tech grabs his trusty super glue stick and goes to town. "Ok that should do it!"
As a former associate, I'm honestly surprised you got it intact, let alone in any kind of working condition! I've seen lots of product thrown haphazardly on top of pallets so high that product usually ends up getting CRUSHED when it's placed on top of the steel! Management didn't care if the pallets leaned over like the Tower of Pisa, let alone if anything got damaged. (Yes, I did take the time to fix these mistakes, after taking pictures, because I'll be damned if anyone gets hurt from anything I had to deal with!)
Alright, I suppose I should give my 2 cents on these gaming PCs since I actually purchased one when they were on that huge sale in late June. I've always been super into the tech/PC community for many years now (mostly just watching videos and reading reviews), and I actually looked into getting a PC since like 2015. Somehow, I kept talking myself into keeping my old laptop (which didn't even have dedicated graphics) for about 5 years until I bought my first PC this summer (2019). I will say that I didn't buy the DTW1, which was around $700 and what you *should never buy* even at that price, but instead I purchased the DTW2 for $900 before tax and received it about a week later. I actually bought it kind of on a whim since I saw the deal, watched only one review of it (by Bitwit Kyle), and decided that I could get around the poor thermals by taking off the front panel. I knew I wouldn't be expecting much out of the PC and I would be in for a few upgrades, but I didn't care since I would get a GTX 1080, an i7-8700 (non-K), and 32 gb of ram for pretty cheap. Let me just say, thank goodness I bought the DTW2 because it had some major changes over the DTW1 which I didn't expect. The DTW2 comes with an *H370* mobo (same bus speed as Z370 & Z390) and a 650w *80+ GOLD* Greatwall PSU (which surprised me when I took out the PSU). Most of the other stuff is similar in quality to the DTW1 (meaning not that amazing), but these two parts saved me around $150 in upgrades. That means that I didn't upgrade them, and I'm still using them currently while typing this. My overall experience with the parts has been pretty great and I surprisingly didn't get most of the issues described in the GN video (e.g: no hot glue on the USB 3.0 header, no USB 3.0 wire in front of the psu, USB type-c is on the mobo i/o and not an expansion, all cables are properly plugged in and ziptied adequately). Booted up perfectly first time and came with no bloatware (but the hdd was still oddly paritioned into 4 parts). For upgrades (which aren't required), I bought a wireless wifi adapter (TP-Link T4E), new PWM RGB case fans (Deepcool RF120M 5 pack), a new case (Thermaltake Level 20 VT), a PWM RGB 200mm fan (upHere P200RGB), and a Deepcool RGB convertor to use the 200mm fan with the mobo's RGB. The cpu cooler and psu have not been upgraded yet, but they're both definitely next on the list (since the case requires the psu to be removed to access the backplate). I'm not using the 2tb hdd currently but it's definitely a very good addition that I'll eventually use. I also have other things planned but I'll either wait for deals or buy they when I need them. Overall, I didn't expect much out of the Walmart PCs, but I'm glad I saw some value in them. The DTW2 purchase has been a really great one for me and it came with little hassle and more value than originally thought. Just because the DTW1 was a terrible PC didn't mean the DTW2 was, and just because it's a prebuilt doesn't mean it's a bad value (esp if you don't wanna come up with a parts list). I would recommend others to buy it if it were at $900 or less, but if you aren't gonna mod or upgrade, just make sure you're okay with loud noise, higher thermals, and more dust than normal. It doesn't really matter tho cuz I just checked and for some reason it's at $1,900 now lol. P.S: I got smart one night and spent a few hours trying to rewire the fan hub on the original PC to match the Lian Li fan hub (shown in the first GN review) and get PWM control. Ended up just having the fans not work anymore and having to buy new ones lmao

what did you expect there to be, explosions and confetti? we're you not satisfied by the lack of Nightcore or vaporwave? we're you expecting dubstep and waiting for the bass to drop?
That's actually pretty easy. All you need to do being a cheapo in selecting the parts for the PC and being very messy with their installation. No mystery there.
How does corporations like Wal-Mart make a killing by overcharging idiot consumers by using child and slave labor whilst using the cheapest creepiest parts?

(ME) It's just a Walmart PC review video it'll be easy and boring content... (Steve) CHALLENGE ACCEPTED! LORD OF THE RINGS MOVIE BUDGET MODE ACTIVATED! AFTER VIDEO (ME) So after everything, it's still just a Walmart PC?
Out of curiosity, I looked up the DTW1 on the Walmart site. "Memory: 16GB Dual-Channel RAM 2440 Mhz" Interesting... I didn't know RAM specifically came in a 2440Mhz variant. Of course, Steve already mentioned this, but the 'interesting' bit is that Walmart still has not amended that error on the web page (assuming anyone even visits it anymore except for a laugh). Reading further, I read some very entertaining reviews, including this gem (of which this is an exerpt): "And to address the concerns of it overheating it does run warmer than most other desktops but some more sensitive components are a good distance away from the heat source." Clearly, Walmart executives/marketing are entirely aware of their target audience, namely the kind of people who have ANFI that the 'more sensitive' components of the system are the very ones creating the raging inferno inside the machine in the first place. This seems typical of corporations like this one, where the overall goal appears to be to make as much money as possible from unsuspecting 'Darwin Award' candidates, whilst the top brass themselves make enough money each to buy several dozen truly high-end systems per annum. You can guarantee that no self-respecting Walmart employee would willingly have one of these systems in their own home/office, because they know full-well how bad it is and always have.
I don't think we need to refer to people who fall for this nonsense as "Darwin award" candidates. Unfortunately for us all Walmarts standing is less shaky than it should be, in the eyes of the average consumer. Your average consumer would fall for this nonsense, but that's because they just don't know better. And we all started somewhere. So don't be an asshole.
@@jamesrussell9124 That wasn't exactly my intention (being an arsehole, that is), but feel free to take a single portion of my comment out of context. :)

Walmart sold way more of these than you thought. #1 through #500 are actually golden samples reserved for shipping out to tech reviewers. Imagine the QC on those non-samples.
They may have friends or family who "know about computers" and may ask that friend/family member for recommendations on PCs or mention the Walmart PCs in conversation and those friends or family can advise against the Walmart PCs.
Brent Layton doubt it. Even I was a PC noob and still knew to get something viable for my first ever PC. (i9 9900k, Z390 board donning RAM running stable at 4,000 MHz, + a 2080 ti. lol.) No one who is smart with their money and seriously into gaming will buy this. Little kids 99.9% of the time won’t have this kind of money, so that leaves the ignorant parents to be pretty much the only customer of this product
It used to be HP's that I would show customers when they asked why my Professional built systems cost a bit more than say Best buy. Now I use your videos Steve on the Walmart crap to prove my point. Not only have I had to fix 4 of these nightmares but also had to explain to the customers just why a trip to a big box store is not the correct method of PC purchasing. Ever!! Not even for office builds. Don't get me wrong if all you do is play on face book or view email, shop online, crap like this will be fine however as you can see if you ever want to upgrade you're going to buying another 2k pc from them. Even with the slots to upgrade that MB and other parts are just way to on the cheap to offer any kinda future use. Great video as always Steve!! P.S. I think the Verge and Walmart should join up and create a new design. Between the 2 of them they might actually get more than 2 things right.

Guga Caldeira I wonder what would happen if someone put them all together to make a room size PC like the old days, one individually is shit but a lot of shit together could be interesting
I bought one CyberPowerPC gaming rig several years ago after having built the previous four rigs. Never again. No matter the cost, I'll only ever build my own systems moving forward.
When mine arrived, it looked like the expanding packing foam nearly broke the PCIE slot the video card was in. I remember something being DOA, and something being the incorrect part. Overall, I remember issues with the video card, power supply, and motherboard. I offered to replace them myself, but they insisted I send the entire machine back. (Thankfully I saved the packaging) When it finally came back, the entire inside of the case had a visible layer of fine sand/dust coating everything. I called to complain, but they kept exclaiming that it didn't leave the shop that way. The other downside was that I didn't get all of the accessories and spare hardware that comes with each component. It was simply way too much of a headache for way too much money.
1# They glued the USB 3.0 header. 2# The case doesn't indicate that it even has USB 3.0 as none of the inputs are blue. So someone that wouldn't know much about PC's probably wouldn't even realize they had USB 3.0 😂

The opening scene
This is scary - I feel sorry for the folks who have no idea about computers - Awesome video Steve - So Hilarious and informative - shame on you Walmart - DWL

No... just a refund.
How do you make a PC that's worse than a gaming laptop at the same price :o
That's actually pretty easy. All you need to do being a cheapo in selecting the parts for the PC and being very messy with their installation. No mystery there.
gaming laptops are waay better than this trash

(Steve) CHALLENGE ACCEPTED! LORD OF THE RINGS MOVIE BUDGET MODE ACTIVATED!
AFTER VIDEO
(ME) So after everything, it's still just a Walmart PC?
literally watched part one earlier this week, this is great timing!
Out of curiosity, I looked up the DTW1 on the Walmart site.
"Memory: 16GB Dual-Channel RAM 2440 Mhz"
Interesting... I didn't know RAM specifically came in a 2440Mhz variant. Of course, Steve already mentioned this, but the 'interesting' bit is that Walmart still has not amended that error on the web page (assuming anyone even visits it anymore except for a laugh).
Reading further, I read some very entertaining reviews, including this gem (of which this is an exerpt):
"And to address the concerns of it overheating it does run warmer than most other desktops but some more sensitive components are a good distance away from the heat source."
Clearly, Walmart executives/marketing are entirely aware of their target audience, namely the kind of people who have ANFI that the 'more sensitive' components of the system are the very ones creating the raging inferno inside the machine in the first place.
STILL the same. 2440

dope video, it was nice to meet you on the bike lift!
Walmart sold way more of these than you thought. #1 through #500 are actually golden samples reserved for shipping out to tech reviewers. Imagine the QC on those non-samples.
How do they know which orders come from tech reviewers?
Unfortunately the potential buyer of these machines will never see a GN review.
They may have friends or family who "know about computers" and may ask that friend/family member for recommendations on PCs or mention the Walmart PCs in conversation and those friends or family can advise against the Walmart PCs.
Yeh then they can completely ignore their "tech friend's" recommendation and buy one anyway.
Brent Layton is right ^^^^^^^^
Brent Layton doubt it.
So funny. Thanks for taking the time with this review. Not a shill for WalMart family!
Looking back on this: Id actually love a gpu mount like that integrated into a case lol. Assuming it could be adjusted based on gpu.
Did you make sure Walmart didn't know who they were shipping to?
If Walmart did know who they were shipping to and they still shipped that hot mess, that would be worse.
Consumers: Stop super gluing the plugs into the sockets
Wal-Mart: No, no we don't think we will
im guessing its glued like that because of how their employees will handle it ... just like any other box. Nobody cares at wall mart. why should they. Dont buy their crap,

That intro montage was wonderful! My day is better now.
I give this build a The Verge out of 10. Nice brace on the back and cable management was so good Walmart didn’t need tweezers.
It's probably RMA'd repeatedly, with no QC each time it goes out or comes back.

Guga Caldeira I wonder what would happen if someone put them all together to make a room size PC like the old days, one individually is shit but a lot of shit together could be interesting
I knew that intro was coming. In 5 videos I've nailed your humor and now subbed 🤣
The intro to this video was so epic I stopped in the middle of it and ordered a DTW-1!
I bought one CyberPowerPC gaming rig several years ago after having built the previous four rigs. Never again. No matter the cost, I'll only ever build my own systems moving forward.
I did the same, both ram modules were loose in the chassis. Luckily undamaged.
When I was younger and dumber I bought a prebuilt with an Fx4300 (stock cooler) and a GT720. No, it was not enjoyable. Yes, I hate myself for it.
I knew the boot screen was gonna pop up, but I still laughed. Quality content (not the computer though)
"Some things don't change"
The disappointment in the tone of your voice is so obvious haha
Best intro to a GN video to date.
Error boot scene made me cry you bloody legend
Walmart's QC is called Percussive Maintenance - the fine art of whacking the crap of of an electronic device to get it to work again.
8:10 Even tech jesus messes up DDR4 sometimes
1# They glued the USB 3.0 header. 2# The case doesn't indicate that it even has USB 3.0 as none of the inputs are blue. So someone that wouldn't know much about PC's probably wouldn't even realize they had USB 3.0 😂
The ports on the top of the case are not USB 3. The usb 3 header on the motherboard goes to the usb c pcie expansion card.
