Sailing Near Military Exercises in Finland’s Archipelago Sea | Ep. 151

- Heading further east from the Åland Islands, we sail next through Finland’s Archipelago Sea on our way to Turku on Finland’s west coast. Along the way, we witness joint military practice operations and see an American boat in the mix of activity!
We can not believe the number of islands that exist in this part of the world and we have sailed through Thousand Islands Canada and the abundance of islands in the North Channel area of Lake Huron - one of the Great Lakes of the United States.
We spend three nights at the Ruissalo Boatyard on Ruissalo island and we use this as a base from which to explore the Turku area. The boatyard is a long-time maker of beautiful wooden boats and many are on display for the visiting yachtsmen and women.
Of course we experience several more unique saunas and are charmed by the warm welcome we continue to receive here. We are thankful that we set aside several weeks to explore this part of Finland.
Hope you enjoy!

What a nice summer sail. Cheers.😀
Yes - it was a beautiful summer. I am now deep in video production on our trip over to Norway - another amazing experience.
On the way in to Turku on the left of the exercise you could see two big cranes. It's Turku shipyard, the birth place of The Icon of the seas and many famous Caribbean cruise ships.
I really like your channel.
Oh - thanks for that information! We had heard something about that and I believe we visited a terrific museum that also covered that history!
So many wonderful places to visit, not enough time to do them justice. I'd be hopeless at keeping a schedule (hoping to find out in the not too distant future)!
Indeed! Take it one step at a time and it won’t feel as daunting!
Hoping you've had a really great Christmas, and wishing you a Wonderful 2024 . Bob still Landlocked in Wales. 👍🌟🌟🌟❤️
Thank you for the kind wishes! Same back to you. This is Karen and I am deep into video production on our time in Norway. Stay tuned!
re 4:52 there is also a Swedish company called Sandvik. I used to work in the mining equipment manufacturing industry and we would sometimes use Sandvik rock crushers in our designs.
Ah, interesting! Thanks for watching.
Congratulations, and wish yuo a happy New Year 2024.
I've a question: After your travel experiences on Sea Rose, would you take her to an transoceanic sail?
I'm considering it to sail from Mexico to Australia.
Yes, we would absolutely take her across an ocean. In fact, we plan to cross the Atlantic in November of this year! We got the deeper keel to increase stability in high seas and we have done tons of prep to get her (and us) ready! Happy 2024 to you too!
Thank you very much for your answer. It help me a lot to make a desicion.
