    Mother made a full sized Cathedral Window quilt years ago. It was so heavy that no one ever slept under it. It was hand made and beautiful. I have no idea who got that quilt after Mom died. I love that last pattern you showed us. It reminded me of the Log Cabin with a Cathedral window in the center. It is beautiful. Thank you for this video.

      Arvetta, I have that problem not only in quilts but crochet as well. Have osteoporosis and a big tshirt is heavy. I have to figure out how to adapt patterns. A cuddly big sweater that is 14 skeins at 3.5oz/skein, that's 49 oz!
      Hope you get your quilt back. A work of beauty is a joy to behold. Even if it is too heavy to use.

    Love the approach and method, especially sewing those curves before all the blocks are assembled. It’s much easier to deal with detail sewing on a small piece! I think the last method is my favorite 😊 Thank you!!

    My grandmother made a bedspread in the cathedral window pattern for my parents' 1-year wedding anniversary. Wishful thinking! It ended up taking ten years and I remember watching her working on it. She added an additional step to one of your variations: the backing material was all white, so to add color, she sewed a little square into the little square window. I now have a much better understanding of the work that went into that quilt! And plan to try your variations myself.

      I did a great quilt as you go orange peel that was just circles, you sewed your circles together with batting, cut a small slit and tuned them, then sewed them together as a square, folded the "peels" over, and sewed them down. It came out great! Squares on the back, orange peel on the front.

    Good evening Paulette, you must have been a mind reader because i was just asking myself about what did you do with all your sample blocks when you answered my question. I think i love the double curve that makes the acute oval or cats eye, because when you placed them together, they were so pretty, making lovely designs. The blue and yellow flower material is so beautiful and reminds me of little pansy faces, i love pansies. Thank you flower for sharing your talent with us, i for one really appreciate the time and trouble you take to show lots of examples of what the blocks can make. Hello Paulette. Jointly made two king size cathedral window quilts. Mine was more involved but quilted as you go. We cut large squares out of solid color, we bought the bolt. Then we sewed the square into an enclosed square. 1, fold sq in half. Press seam flat. Bring remaing raw edges togther match seam at center. Sew this seam leaving , just a little opening for turned. Trim points so they are sharp when turned right side out. Iron the enclosed square and bring cornor points togther and press. You now have a little square with a smoothe side and a side with four flaps. Using the ironed line sew the square together. Assemble as many squares as you want. Turn the flappy side up and cut a small fashion fabric to fill the square. Roll the edge around the fashion fabric making a windon. Option, cut a piece of batting to put under fashion fabric. Sew down the scalloped edges encasing the fashion fabric. Them you’re done. Your method seems easier, but probably not a short cut in the end because you need to quilt it. Made the quilts with my mom back in the 90’s. That was before quilting short cuts were in vogue, like strip sewing….. hope you get the idea. I tried to explain the best I could. Love your channel as I’ve said many times before.

With her favorite color being purple but with NO green I'll have to shop for a few different purple, flowery fabrics to go with the purple 10" layer cake that I've already purchased. Thank you for showing us the different techniques and really like the last type of cathedral window (with the blues) that one mostly with some of the diamond version in different sized middles will be fabulous in my mind, anyway. That is alot easier I did start one but have so many scrape to sew that I'm working on that issue now the Quilts I've done in just randomly place blocks for a baby quilt ,wished I cut all my fabrics in blocks have alot of the 10 inch fabrics cut in blocks so I will begin after I'm done with all my scrapes.

    Love your channel. Made two chathedral window quilt with large sq. folden to an enclosed sq which made sides on bias; cut out little squares that where enclosed by points from the enclosed square. It was loads of work but when finished no backing was needed. It’s probably an original way to fold as the quilts were made 20-30 yrs ago. The current demos are easier, but yield thinner finished pieces. Sorry, this was hard to explain.

    How many years have you been quilting?
    You seem like you may be a master seamstress. Your voice is calming and for people like me with severe anxiety and depression, we really need a calming voice when we are learning new things. I find Guilting therapeutic. I really appreciate you and your expert advice.
    I saw another way to make this block and while I was successful, it was much more complicated.
    I subscribed to your Channel and look forward to seeing more of your talents and learning from you.
    Do you have a Facebook Group and allow people to post their work for everyone to show their creations?
    Thank You

    I’m a beginner and was wondering; for the last method, how would I square that up without getting the points?

    • @TulipSquare
      @TulipSquare  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Do you mean square it up without cutting off the points? If so, don’t pull the curves open so far into the corners, so the point is a little further in.

    Is the backside thick/bulky aftersewing the four sections together (looks quite flat)?

    • @TulipSquare
      @TulipSquare  ปีที่แล้ว

      It is thicker, but it presses flat and stays flexible. Probably the best thing would be to try a square or two with some scrap fabric just to see how it feels to you. 🌷
