When Cyndi made this video she fought long and hard to have all types of women represented. Most of the people in the video are family or friends. She has often said that she wanted every woman and little girl in the world to see that video and feel like they were entitled to a joyful life no matter what they looked like. I love her so much! She's the real deal and you don't really know the power of her voice until you see her live. She's fantastic and doesn't have to rely on hydraulics, lifts, fireworks and huge costume changes to keep you riveted.

Trivia: the song was originally written from a male perspective, complaining that girls just want to have fun. Cyndi changed it into a feminine anthem.

It's not Orbison's song. It was written by a couple of song writers who first offered it to Orbison. When he did not show interest in releasing the song, they gave it to Lauper instead. She released it in 1989 and it was a big hit. Roy's version (which sold much fewer copies) was released posthumously in the 90s.

In the 60's, we sang about social issues. In the 70's, we were recovering form the Vietnam War and morale was at an all-time low. In the 80's, we just wanted to have fun, get on the dance floor, and let it all go with crazy colors and styles. It was a decadent "about me" decade because we were just tired of fighting everything for the last 20 years.

Very happy to see this one! This was the start of the Rock 'N Wrestling Connection. Cyndi appeared as Wendi Richter's manager at the first Wrestlemania. Cyndi is long overdue to be inducted in the WWE Hall of Fame. Next up, "The Goonies 'R' Good Enough"...

That song made me happy the first time I heard it and it still does. Cyndi Lauper is the real deal. This is a fun and happy song, True Colors and Time After Time show her sensitive, artist side. I wore out the "She's So Unusual" album. Love her!

Love Cyndi! The first time I saw this video (maybe 1984) was during an intermission at a concert hall, before The Motels took the stage (We didn't have cable or MTV yet.) . Six months later, I saw Cyndi in concert at the same venue. She had so much stage presence and personality, and such an incredible voice. I saw her in concert again about 3 years ago, and the energy, voice, and personality had not changed one bit! BTW she also wrote all of the songs for the musical "Kinky Boots."
