If you want to see the ultimate examples of music uniting people around the world, this playlist is for you. This is an organization that goes around the world bringing in singers and musicians to each -play a part in a tune, such as Stand By Me. I highly recommend people support this organization. They use any funds raised to do such projects as building a school in an African village, etc.

I remember watching The Midnight Special, the night Redbone did the intro dance and then this song. I miss the 1970's...the music was great and artists wore all kinds of stuff on stage...from these guys, showcasing some of their heritage, to glam rock with their glitter and vampire capes, and high platform shoes...and there were bell bottoms, and sleek looking slacks...and lots of color. Anymore it just seems like everyone wears ripped jeans and t-shirts....and they need auto-tune to make them sound like real singers.

A few years ago, I was driving cross country and made a side stop at the National Park.
I felt sadness, but I also felt an overwhelming feeling of peace and forgiveness, like the victims forgave their tormentors. It was sad but beautiful, and very surprising. It wasn't what I expected.
So, my belief after that visit, is that they are at peace with God.

That was when he allowed me to start collecting my albums again and, he even replaced my Jim Croce albums.
Once Redbone came on the scene, I was allowed to listen to all the rap music LOL.
(He was a long-distance truck driver. On his side of the family we are from the Oneida tribe of the Iroquois League.)
EDIT: you young'uns need to go talk to your grandparents and see if they still have their record collections! You will find all of the music you've been listening to, plus a billion other songs you been waiting to discover within the jackets of those LPS!

I loved this song since I first heard it, at 12/13 years old. Now, at 62, I am listening to the 1970's music again, in an effort to feel close to the biological mother I never knew (she died when I was 23, in 1984). There may be some Mohawk dna in me, I am not sure, but the family lore suggests it. All I know is, I love this song and always have! (It is on the soundtrack to "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1", I believe, as the character of "Star Lord" was always singing it.) Another song that never fails to cheer me up is "Kodachrome" by Paul Simon (forget the year it was released, but it was 1970-something. Love your reactions, and I get being all emotional listening to songs your grandma loved; I get that way listening to Irish music, as my adoptive Nana was born in Belfast. I guess that Dick Clark just got tired of doing "American Bandstand", and the show finally ended. As for "The Midnight Special", it was getting more costly to attract Rock and Soul music acts, along with standup comedians that appeared on the show. When the TV ratings went down in the early-1980s, NBC decided to cancel "The Midnight Specia". They felt that they did not need it anymore, because "Saturday Night Live" was such a big success for the network. "Soul Train" continued on for many years in syndication, until Don Cornelius' production company could not continue on with the show due to rising production costs and low ratings (that, and the rise of Rap music in the African-American community).

"Come And Get Your Love", by Redbone, was big hit song on local Pop-Rock radio stations during the early-1970s here in the Penn-Ohio Area. It was a very accessible song for people to listen to. It had a 1960s-style arrangement to it, with some contemporary guitar sounds of the 1970s time period.
