Her father in this video is a man by the name of "Captain Lou Albano". He used to work in the WWF back in the day as a wrestling manager. He was an icon. May he rest in peace.
It was him and Cyndi who brought rock/pop music into the wrestling world at WrestleMania #1. It changed the face of wrestling, and brought it into the mainstream.
He also wrestled in the old World Wide Wrestling Federation. Probably was best know as a member of the tag team, The Sicilians, with partner Tony Altomare.
Also that was her real mom.

Loved Cyndi Lauper's quirky style & she is a really good singer songwriter. She has had a lot of hits especially in the 80's such as "Time After Time", "All Through The Night", "True Colors", "Change Of Heart", "I Drove All Night" etc.

This song was a massive in the 80's. It got some flack because it was seen by some as a "backlash" song, a reaction against feminism. But Cyndi said then and still says that she meant it as a feminist anthem, a proclamation that "girls" weren't going to settle for what society declared they _should_ do, but were going to go for what they _wanted_ to do, no matter whether it was serious or silly. (Notice how she says they want to have fun _when the working day is done.)_ Basically "Don't you tell me what to do, I'm gonna do what I want!"

Haha I remember this song and this video. The guy playing her dad was “Captain” Lou Albano. He was a wrestler in the WWF or WCW, what’s now the WWE. I can’t remember which, I was a kid but I just know he was cool! He was a family friend, he lived a town over. He’s also in her video for the song “Time after Time.”

Cyndi has such a unique voice. I remember receivng the album from a record sales ep (from CBS) as I worked at a record shop. She made this one fun but for the one or two albums she did, Cyndi. made an impression. For longevity her two songs from this album: Time after Time and True Colors you'll often hear on shopping mall sound systems. Time after Time will always make me cry a bit
She's a very under rated singer. Check out "Money Changes Everything" live. The last couple of minutes shows you her vocal abilities.

The guy in the video who played her father actually was a popular WWF wrestler from the 80's named Lou Albano, he went by "Captain Lou Albano". That's why she pulled the wrestling move on him. When the video came out, almost everyone knew who he was. I didn't, but MTV made sure I did, back when they only played music & music news!

Late comment here. In 2010 or 11 she put out an album called Memphis blues. Best selling blues album that year very good. Also the guy in the tux with flowers is Steve forbert. First 4 album 78, 79, 80 and 82 made the charts. 2004 album was nominated for a Grammy. His music from the I think would be categorized as a combo of folk, rock, kind of a 2000's indie sound. Great songs: going down to Laurel, say good bye to little jo, you cannot win if you do not play, Romeo's tune, complications, etc.. worth a listen

Well, check out the 1995 version of this song. Cyndi re-titled it for her best of compilation CD; renaming the song as Hey Now (Girls Just Want to Have Fun) and the song was re-recorded with a new arrangement and the video, Cyndi directed herself, has a whole set of different 'girl's ... more fun!

This was a song from a female centric thing, we are out here, we have experiences. It started in the late 1970s with "I Will Survive" by Gloria Gaynor and ran into country music with "80s Ladies" by K. T. Oslin. Just specific to the female experience. There are a few more of them out there, I just can't remember them.

I loved this song and Cindy Lauper when she first broke out. So much fun and conventions? We don’t need no societal conventions.
Suggestion: if you want to see and hear more girls having fun, check out Matraca Berg’s “Back in the Saddle”. The video includes some of the biggest stars in country music at the time, including Faith Hill, and Matraca had written at least big hit for every one of them. She’s got a great voice, writes a LOT of hits for others such as “You and Tequila”, and clearly has a sense of humor.
