    Brilliant video. There are a huge number of assumptions made by guys who obviously know their stuff, the assumptions being that everyone else knows all the tech stuff :-) To literally go through every step of the process, explaining everything as you go, is a rarity. This was a whole new experience for me, and this video helped make it a lot less painful.

      Ditto. Yes most people who do these videos talk about SD flashing with etcher. But if you haven’t done that before. Mistakes can be made

      So just so ive got it correct. Use a torrent file to download, use 7zip to unzip/compress then use etcher to put on my usb/sd?

    Just wanted to say thanks so much for putting this great video out. I've been wanting to get some kind of retrogaming console together for a while, but didn't really know where to start... I thought about getting one of the miniconsoles and hacking it, or buying an old PC and using that, but when I saw this video I was hooked. Super informative, entertaining and thorough.
    And now I'm getting very little sleep because I'm playing through Final Fantasy III again.
    Thanks a million!

  • @eclectricgay

    I HIGHLY suggest the Argon M.2 case as the case itself is a giant aluminum case with also a small built in fan for active cooling as well. With emulation the fan never spins up to noticeable noise levels and the massive aluminum heatsink keeps it very cool. It also has USB 3.0 to m.2 sata port for adding a SATA m.2 SSD. It also transforms the mirco HDMI to full sized HDMI ports. I've been able to boost my clock speeds to 2.0ghz stably as well. And if you want to make this a media plex using Kodi there is also an IR remote available for this case for $10.

    People have already commented but I will because I gotta. Great video. Informative. BUT! Confusing regarding setting up Raspbian on one sd card and then setting up Retropie on another. I'm sure someone is going to take that sd card with Raspbian (Raspberry OS) and flash Retropie over it thinking they're getting both on one card. For just setting up Retropie you DO NOT need to flash Raspberry OS on your sd card first. Also, if you want a pre-made Retropie image from Arcade Punks you only need that image download to flash (etch) to your card. Retropie is already included with many of those very polished and well designed images.

      @Brian-ui1bq 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thank you for this comment. I was wondering that too. It didn't really make sense to have Pi OS and Retro, at least in my case since they are both their own OS. Also I was confused as to why he wanted a separate SD card to transfer roms. Couldn't you just pop the micro SD into your PC and install them that way?

    • @giantnoggin9512
      @giantnoggin9512 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      So can you clear it up for me. My unit came with a 32gb card that already had Respberry Pi OS on it. When I download Retropie I wasnt to use a different sd card? And what size should that care be? And than do I need a completely different sd card for any games I want to download?

    Question; I've only got the one micro-sd at the moment, do I have to install the default Raspberry OS first, or can I flash it and put retropie straight onto it?

    • @EfficientTrout
      @EfficientTrout 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Retropie is the OS and emulator all in one, based on Debian Linux. You dont need to install other OS to run retropie.
      You have to erase your only sd card to flash retropie

    Great video! Extremely helpful. Will you be posting a video on how to update the splash screens? Thank you.

    Thank you so much for the in-depth tutorial, watching this made me want to build one myself. After ordering in January I received my pi4 kit over the weekend and I'm looking forward to building this. Towards the end of this video you mentioned making a playlist of other retropie builds, would you be able to link those in the description or let me know where I could find them? I would really appreciate it!

      You’re welcome. I’m glad to hear that, they are a fun project. I will be making a playlist in the near future, as I do plan on doing more pi builds

    Great video man! Just a thought, it would be good to look into the RETROFLAG NES case for a video and use the SSD option as you can get a 2TB SSD for the same price if not cheaper then the cost of a 1TB Micro SD.

    It's a nice little computer I just got mine learning how to use it here. So far the best emulation machine I've seen is the Nvidia shield TV. But Im have a lot of fun with this little computer.

      I've got the original Nvidia shield and couldn't agree more. I've got the pi400 and c64maxii, but the shield is number 1.

    FYI, Raspberry Pi Foundation officially changed the name of Raspbian to Raspberry Pi OS when they released the 8GB version of the RPi 4B back in May, 2020. Thanks for the video!

      Thank you for the information Conner! I had heard it used interchangeably but didn't know the name was officially changed.

    Don't buy the 8gb model if your only using it for retro gaming. You won't need more than 4gb, some games will go over 2gb but none will go over 4gb.
