This is a very well done video. I took the screws out to remove the housing and later wasn't sure where the one short screw went. This solved that problem, thanks Dave.
Well done video. You mentioned to observe the inside of cylinder when the carb and exhaust are removed. Many other videos do not mention this. You can get a great view of the condition of the walls and piston for scoring. Then you can make a determination of whether to proceed. Some people cheat or are unwise to the fuel/oil mix.
of course the one video I find about my exact trimmer doesn't show the one thing I need. the trigger lock and spring locating and set up. back to hunting for videos to show that.
Can you tell me how to install the trigger spring I have the same trimmer it came off when I was replacing the lockout lever ....it would be much appreciate
I have exactly the same problem as @Gene Hanks on my FS45. When working on trigger assembly the throttle return spring came off & I have spent a lot of time trying to reinstall it with no success. Thanks in advance!
This is a very well done video - in terms of content and video & audio quality. Any idea what the purpose of the screw is that is 1.5" away from the short screw (which holds the shaft in place) on the underside of the case? It doesn't seem to attach to anything. It almost seems like a guard to keep the centrifugal clutch drum in place should it start to come loose. Thanks!
Hey Bob! I have wondered that for a long time myself. It doesn’t attach to anything but it makes sense it’s there to prevent the clutch housing from coming off. A mystery!
@@DavesSmallEngines Thanks, Dave - glad I'm not alone scratching my head about that one. When I pulled the cover off (to get to the kill switch) the throttle assembly came out - including the return spring. (Hint: I think depressing the throttle interlock when removing the cover might have prevented that disaster.) I spent all day trying to figure how it went back together but I finally prevailed. Anyhow, enjoying your site!
@@BobC777 I have spent many hours scratching my head trying to figure out different throttle return springs. I always just look for the wear marks… but sometimes that doesn’t help either! Thanks for being here, I appreciate it!

Exactly! That’s the first step in my opinion. Make sure it’s worth saving, or better used for parts.

The FS38 and FS55 are the same
Good, informative video.
Thank you!

I’ll see if I have one to pull apart for you!

is there a reason you do not use carb cleaner? or will brake clean do the same thing
Same same, but different.
I have the same model and type but mine works for about 10 minutes and then it turns off and not able to start it back up again. What could it be?
When that happens undo the fuel cap and see if you hear a “hiss” noise. I bet it’s the tank vent.
@@DavesSmallEngines where is the tank vent or you talking about the gas filter
Tank vent. It may be built into the gas cap. See if the problem happens when the gas cap is off or loose
Yup you were right it was tank vent built into the gas cap. I have taken it to several people and nothing. Thank you so much
@@eusebioguerra9154 that’s awesome Eusebio!!!!
the pesky california mandated spark arrestor is the root of all problems
Is it?
