    I bought a cheap Chinese carburetor for my Stihl FS80R String Trimmer. It woulnt start, and a replacement carb for $15 was just a cheap as rebuilding a Stihl carburetor. This carb fits many stihl models, FS38 FS45 FS46 FS55 KM55 HL45 FS45L FS45C FS46C FS55C FS55R FS55RC FS85 FS80R FS85R FS85T FS85RX String Trimmer Weed Eater with Air Filter Fuel Line Kit

    Replacement Stihl Carburetor -- amzn.to/2MsIhkd
    Stihl 2 stroke Oil -- amzn.to/2pAFoVw
    1 year ago I had my local Stihl dealer work on this trimmer. They installed a New Stihl carb. That cost me over $100. So i figured i would try a cheap alternative. So far, so good. Thanks for watching.

      These carbs are good for 1 or 2 seasons. Not bad when you consider the price. I keep an extra one on hand at all times for when my other replacement carb goes out. Usually, what goes bad is some red rubber that breaks down and gets stuck in the pump cover drain.

    It is crazy, Jan 2024 I found a $9.95 carb on Amazon for my 6HP Honda knockoff engine on my plate compactor. The 10 minute job of the 2 mounting nuts, replace the gaskets and twist tied the fuel line to that universal brass fuel inlet and starts first pull every time.

    I installed that very same carb from Huztl on my FS55RC, and, no idea if it was just a bad one, but the sweet spot when trying to find it's idle was tiny. Very unlike the the OEM. I swapped out the new fuel line while I was at it too.
    Around the same time I'd purchased an ultrasonic cleaner, cleaned and shelved the original OEM carb.. Cut to a season later when I couldn't live with the cheap replacement's idle any more. Just couldn't find a start position that would also run okay.
    Thought I'd try out the OEM cleaned one again, and low and behold the cleaning had fixed it.
    Also the fuel tube that came with the Huztl was a rigid stick after a year, and leaking around the gas tank where it had shrunk. Guess what.. I'd kept the OEM one too. Still completely bendy and like new.. After something like 18 years of age.
    I really learned a lesson on staying with OEM.. At least in this. It wasn't complete junk, but the original shelved pieces were 18+ years old, and basically still fine, just needed a clean. The Huztl worked badly for a year, and within 2, I was back to the exact same cleaned OEM carb and accessories.
    These carbs work and it got me out of a bind, but they aren't the quality of the originals. Sometimes they even look nicer, but.. They just aren't quite right.

    I bought the same carb & kit. It worked great for over an hour. I think I will check for spark tomorrow. Looks like it’s getting gas when you use the primer bulb. I took the sparkplug out and smelled gas. Thanks for the video.

  • @carl2300
    @carl2300 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Thank you! Very informative. First clean your spark arrest filter, this is a metal screen that gets carbon debri on it. It is right where the exhaust comes out. All Stihl products have these.
    My stihl FS250 started getting bogged down. Adjusting and then replacing the carb with a non-OEM one did nothing to fix it but cleaning the spark arrester made it as good as new. manufacturer The off marked kits have a new carb, fuel filter, air filter, spark plug and lines are cheap and worked just as good as the original. Just keep the old carb because......if you ever take it to a Stihl repair shop they will refuse to work on it if it has an after market carb.

  • @craigsmith9876
    @craigsmith9876 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yep did the same local dealer wanted $250 for new carb. purchased a very similar kit off eBay for under $20 and 30 minutes later my FS90R was running good again. I have noticed it always starts on about the 6th pull on first job but after that when warm starts first time for the rest of the day. Very pleased and like you I hated purchasing the Chinese rip off part but $230 is a big of difference and I need to cut a lot of grass to recoup that!

  • @JulianA-tr6pt
    @JulianA-tr6pt ปีที่แล้ว +1

    One main difference, for some of these trimmers, is the fact that the aftermarket carbs lack the accelerator pump, which consists of a small metal piston, tiny o ring, and spring. This is a common failure point in the OEM carbs and to fix it requires tracking down the right o ring (which can fail again after a short while). I've replaced the ring on OEM carb for an FS45, but it was a pain to find the right one. I have another FS45 that I sealed the accelerator pump with epoxy, which partially worked (I may have used too much epoxy - had to drill a fuel channel, which causes flooding) but now it needs a new carb - have had decent luck with cheap aftermarket.
    I have seen a few carbs for sale which appear to have the hole for the accelerator pump. It is fitted underneath the throttle shaft.

    Thanks for the video FA. I have a FS 46. It was given to me by a friend that purchased new many years ago. It was barely used. It sat for years. I could get it to fire but wouldn’t stay running. I suspect the carb flap / diaphragm has gotten brittle. Sure seems stiff. Anyways I called local Stihl dealer and asked for a quote on carburetor service/ repair. I was quoted $200!!!!!! Needless to say that’s not going to happen! I went with the China huzst carb like you. I’ll let your channel know how it turns out. Happy weed whackin’ 2 all!

      @@FarmAlarm I swapped out the factory Stihl carburetor for the huztle carb. It fired up after 4 pulls. Seems to be good but after it warmed up it dies at idle speed if I don’t give it a little throttle. I’m guessing I need to speed up the idle timing. Also it seems like it’s a little slow but that’s just a guess as I haven’t had the thing operating since I got it. Also I changed out the plug, air filter and fuel line and filter. The old fuel line and filter and air filter all seemed good but I swapped them out anyways. Thanks again for the video! ( any further advice- tips would be appreciated.)👍🏻👌🏻✔️🥽🌱🍃🌞

    For commercial use it's a gamble. The precision machining isn't always there so the choke disengage catch plates dont always work. The butterfly valve moves independent of the throttle shaft, the idle screw vibrates itself loose. If you run a company that sends young folks to do yard work, there's very little chance they are "2 stroke whisperers" and will troubleshoot on site.

    I bought 4 of these carbs because of this video, and they work well! However, the check valve for the gas tank leaks on everyone of my weed whackers now. I pulled them apart to find that none of them had the little filter that's supposed to be inside the valve. That's the only problem I've run into, and they have updated the petcock design for the fuel intake, they are now ribbed plastic!

    • @breaddrinker

      The fuel line material on mine shrunk so badly, it started to leak around the gas tank opening.

      The C1Q uses a RB-100 kit. Be careful working on this carb. It has check valves in the primer body, and a check valve in the main nozzle. If you hot tank the carb, blow compressed air thru passages or use strong solvents on these carbs theres a good chance you will damage the check valves.

    For all of you who like cheap products, well so do I but there is a price to pay for buying these products, you know what the price is in the USA. the questions should be is the supplier of carbs charging more than he should, the retailers in France charged me 160 euros for a carb for my fs400. Now was it a genuine carb or a rip off from god knows where. the more you look at the people that are producing cheap products the more you realize how we are if fact ripping them off, because they get next to nothing for the work they do.

      I would suspect the OEM Stihl carbs (still made in China) probably go through some degree of quality control. So there's a good chance you will get a quality carb with no issues. You pay more for that. Or you buy the Ho Le Fook brand, with no quality control. You pay less. Maybe it works, maybe it doesn't. Maybe it works for 2 weeks, 6 months, 1 year. It's a crapshoot.

    Products made in china are also good quality things. Even chinese things are diferent between them, some are poor some are cool. On Stihl is something else.. Is like Stihl was there while they made their own products haha

    DO NOT BUY THIS ONE! Atleast get a HIPA or something other than this one. I have two that both leak fuel into the air filter and provide low power. Even the reviews on Amazon keep referring to leakage and low power! I’m not having to order a different one.

    So you use a Chinese knockoff carb but still pay for Stihl oil? Interesting...

    • @FarmAlarm
      @FarmAlarm  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I previously had a oem replacement carb from stihl (which is made in china) and it lasted one season. And it was $100. I was not going to spend another $100 on a carburetor. I decided to "try" this cheap Chinese knockoff, and it has been working for two years. As far as the logic of "I'll use a cheap carburetor, so I might as well use cheap oil" which I'm sure that is what you're getting at, well that does not make sense.

      I tend to agree. Stihl has China making some of their chainsaws, hedge trimmers, string trimmers, and probably more. I'm standing hear reading directly off the equipments labels. Like so many other manufacturers ( DeWalt, Milwaukee) they moved to China and are hoping their reputation will keep selling their products. But we have few choices anymore. And the Chinese are laughing as we buy their crap and have to buy it again in a year or two.
