Chad I love watching you at work. I wait on you everyday you are truly a master metal craftsman. I’m going to ask you a question I’ll be 70 in January if the good lord Jesus Christ let’s me live to see it. Question at my age do you think I could learn to weld with one of those welders you have. Grate gob on Jim’s gas tank. You and your girlfriend must get tired doing a video everyday. I surely hate to see you slow down. But I know you have to at some point in time. Thanks for the videos. I like it when jimbo comes over or you visit him. You guys have a good night god bless you and your family. James Salmons wv.

I'm just gona say, two six inch bend as in adding 6 inches to the 28 measurement, and a 90 degree bend on both sheets would have saved you 6 ft of welding. 6 ft of less of a chance of a leak. Not to mention time. Like watching you and Jolwne, and all the rest. But didn't watch this as soon as you cut the 28 inch cut. Story of my life. 6 inches short.😅

I would weld some baffles inside to minimize the gas sloshing around. Also roll bead to add strength. Also pressure test it when you are done.

Hard job. Did a oil pan years ago cut it off turned it around welded it back together with a arc welder . Well it leaked so I took it to a welding shop he wire welded it looked beautiful lol it leaked again. Took it back he showed me a trick ( soap and water spray it on blow from the opposite side with air any pinhole bubble! Really simple and works great . Great job guys good advertising. Miss seeing joule always nice to see a beautiful woman especially one that gets in and helps ( not saying that you don't help camera a big job i know ive tried that was a joke how it turned out lol . Thanks for everything you're both a inspiration

Hi Chad, Jolene, Jimbo, & Nate, all in the house today! Always good to see Jimbo come over & when Nate is there it means progress on the Bugatti. Nate does really awesome work on the cars & he will have the Bugatti mechanically ready to go in no time. Chad you are a great friend taking time out of your work to build Jimbo a gas tank, if anyone deserves it that would be Jimbo. Jolene not only a great video but, a great hole spotter on the tank welds. Congratulations on the sponsor as well Jolene, & the progress on your Bugatti!

Why wouldn’t you bend the first corner? That would be two less long sides to weld.

i used to work with a guy i called 'racing man'. Drove me crazy was always speed over quality but we worked in theater/movie/tv industry which was very forgiving before 4k high def. He went up the corporate ladder making big bucks but always came to the shop with his plans/designs requesting me to do the build. No we were never on good terms till i retired but i knew he became aware of quality over quantity but no money ever got into my pocket yet his designs made him a 'god' for the business.

Jim's new tank will hold 21.8 imperial gallons or 99.1 litres. No matter how you measure it, its going to be a big hit on the wallet to fill it. The Bugatti is really coming along. The adjustments and instal of vital components really eats a lot of time and money not to mention it can test the patience of a monk. As you say, there's a lot more to a build beyond the skin and paint.

Chad, on the back of most metal brakes there is a cam to adjust the edge of the top to decrease the roll of the edge of the metal. It will make a much tighter angle. 👍 👍
The brass bushing might be worn out. I had to replace mine a few times over the 17 years I used it.

Just a suggestion. ...you wouldn't need a huge building for a good siz industrial sheer,,and a big Brake ,3200t 10' long. maybe a notcher. Watch for equipment..sometimes find stuff like that at auctions industrial auctions....
You'd wear out alot less grinders...make life easier and save alot of time

After cutting a hole for sending unit you can put a light on the inside. Just cut the hole a little smaller than you know you will need & you can do it now.

why not bend the metal to do away with some of the welds?

  • @fullboostturbo1
    @fullboostturbo1 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

Do not mean any disrespect but when welding using MIG you push the torch forward same as when tig welding, when welding flux core wire in a mig you pull for best results the torch backwards same as when stick welding unless your doing a vertical up weld. If I was going to use a mig to weld this tank I would tacked the outside seams as you done, then ran a vertical down on the inside seams, then welded up the outside seams in about 6 runs of weld alternating the area of welds to avoid distortion. But the best way would have been the tig weld the whole tank. Then always pressure test a tank especially a fuel tank with water pressure, or air and spraying soapy water on the welds.

materials and engineering in construction of fuel tanks
there is also crash testing requirements
in chads brain its the "looks good to me" school of engineering

Hey Chad I'm not trying correct you or anything like that nothing but I'm like that. But I found if I use a red light when I'm welding looking for pinholes it seems to show up a little better than white light. It contrasted against the white light that's already available.

And I would also like add that I only started welding because of Chad. Please don't get me wrong I have definitely a newbie. I just happened to think about it when I was welding and looking for holes. I really don't know what I'm doing. I'm only mimicking what I have seen Chad do and I have to say I can actually welcome to come after 53 years lol. I've always wanted to do but never had the opportunity to do or took the time to learn. Thank you bad Chad oh, you're the great teacher 2 me.

The main purpose of a baffle in the gas tank is to keep the gas around the fuel pickup during stopping and exceleration when the tank is low on fuel and also on hills. Your engine loves baffles so they don't stumble.
