Spraying Rocker Guard on the 1956 Plymouth 😱 (controversial)

- It's time to spray rubberized rocker guard on some of the panels on the 1956 Plymouth. This is an easy to use spray protect that soundproofs and insulates without chipping, helping to prevent repairs and rust. Rocker guard used to have a bad name because it would go on very thick and dense but the product we use goes on very light and leaves a nice texture.
➡️ The 1956 Plymouth will be for sale once we finish up all the rust repair. The price is $8,500 CAD. We paid $6,500 for the car and have approximately $2,000 worth of material into it. This means you get all the labour we spent on it for FREE. Email Jolene if you're interested at jolene@hiltzcommunicationsinc.com ✅

Chad and Jolene u guys should give that car to Doug since he has been dedicated a lot of time and hard work for you guys and he is a super ambitious and willing to get in their and get dirty and willing to learn new things he would most definitely look after it and appreciate it all lot that’s just what would do and let him pick a cool paint job to show him that you guys appreciate his work to
Few years ago I was selling an old winter beater and sprayed the frame/fenders from underneath with rock guard. When a buyer came to see the vehicle to inspect it from underneath they turned around and did not buy the vehicle... The stuff makes the panels look good but it hides all the rust and after a year or so it will accelerate the rust as it traps moisture.
Yes it can, very true. Anything is possible.
Enjoy all your videos. Jolene does a great job with her camera work. I like the way you explain things as your working. Thanks Chad, Jolene, Doug and Nathan!
I like how you showed how the rusted radiator support could be repaired. Looks excellent.
Chad is too much of a professional. Every car builder knows. There is three ways to do every job. Depending on the budget of the build, and the customers request. Some people only have the funds for the car. Then they proceed to restore or preserve it. I’m for any means necessary to keep that vehicle alive! Thanks for teaching us Hiltlzy!
Looking good guys! Quite a bit of repairs done to this car ; it should last forever and hope it goes to a good home. Thanx for sharing!
Hi Chad, Jolene, & Doug, I hope everyone is doing well! The car is really looking good and I know one person who agrees with that. That is Doug, you can tell by the way he looks at it, to bad he is not in a position to buy it he would be a good home for it. Jolene excellent job as always!
Looking good!
If I was a millionaire I would buy it for Doug he seems like a Really decent guy 👍😎
Restoration is out of the reach of so many. Repair and preserve is closer to the average Guy who wants a car to just look decent and drive. Not many videos on that approach. Well done Chad.
I've been working on cars since I was 12 and I've been watching your videos for a couple of months now. I've learned a lot. Last year I restored and repainted my 2003 Ford Van. I could have done some things better if I had been watching your videos sooner. You are a great craftsman.
I agree with you, hot rod style, with the raised rear and big wheels, side exhaust pipes etc.. 🔥
Great work guys 👍
HI guys ,wow the repair is doing just great ! nice to see another way to do this without complete restoration
Thank you Bad Chad and Queen Jolene!
Good for you for clarifying what restored, original, and repaired. Most people do not know that.
Chad, you'll have a nice Sunday driver when you're done. And your repair is much better than most restorations.
Did this with my 47 willys this summer. Made a huge difference on how it looked much cleaner.
Good name "The Plymouth Controversial". A genuine bargain! No doubt in my mind...👍
Yesterday rocgaurd makes a hell of a difference in the aperance,,gotta like it,,,you guys are moveing right along on the car,,hi to Jolene an fina,,luv you guys,,👍👍😀
HI Chad i enjoy your Videos i am glad to hear you are planning on making the 56 Plymouth into a 70's Hot Rod jackup Wide Tires front Skiinny i Grew up in 70's i saw a lot of Hot Rods with that look Plus you dont see a lot or any 56 Plymouth Hot Rod Keep up the Great WORK of ART IN Automobiles
nothing like the smell of rock guard in the afternoon. 😛 that Doug sure is a humble fellow .
Ive been useing rustolium for under gaurds so far happy with it .
If you plan on re-using what’s left in an aerosol spray can, turn it upside down and clear the nozzle by pressing for two seconds and clear the product out for the next time you use it. It will not clog that way.
That buggy has Doug wrote all over it. He’d be a good fit for it. I’m sure he’d be a good caretaker of it.
What a BIG difference in improvement. A little attention to detail goes a LONG way. Nice job Chad!
I think your craftsmanship is one-of-a-kind and you do some amazing work I know I'm a Young Man I've been around cars my whole life your work is unbelievable I just wish I wasn't lost my legs and I could have continued to work on cars like that
Just so happens that I’m doing almost the exact thing to my 1955 Dodge Custom Royal, right now and seems we are paralleling these jobs. At least under the hood!
I’m amazed how similar these parts are between the two makes. Fortunately not a lot of rust on mine just the battery tray area and since I’m there, I pulled the rad support and am readying all for paint.
Amen! Thank you for emphasizing the reality that words have meaning. In today's world people play fast and loose with the true definition of words. Some do it out of ignorance, others use the ignorance of others to scam them.
If I bought this car, I'd love to get it painted a factory coded two tone from Chrysler Plymouth 56 color chart. I love some of the 50's color schemes. I'm sure it would get tons of comments. I was only four when this one rolled off the assembly line, and my folks had friends who had one the color this one was.
Hi there Chad and Jolene as usual you never cease to amaze me that car is looking so good I want it but I'm too far away over in Australia A trick we did in the early days when we didn't have much money to repair cars was to spray thick roqguard on the roof for an imitation vinyl roof . We thought it was cool Keep up the good work love you guys cheers from Australia
I noticed Fina got up and walked out as soon as the spraying started. A wise pup from years of wisdom I recon.
Lol.....
The Champ & Doodle Doug rocking n rolling getting er done & Queen Jolenes on the scene baby Woooooooo. 😉✌
An old detailer trick i used when purchasing another vehicle was to spray semi gloss black in the fenderwells. It makes the car or truck look cleaner visually...
He uses this stuff all the time and knows the product very well
I have been planning to do this this to the fenders on my 46 Chevy. But spray with rust neutralizer and tremclad first.
Hello everyone, visiting Alberta Canada and still able to tune in, loving it!
For what it’s worth I absolutely agree with Chad’s definitions re: conditions of cars as a buyer. Also, stripped down to the bare metal is the way to go with the Savoy. I thought I wouldn’t like it but looking at it today changed my mind.
I've owned 2 1956 plymouths in the past. Good to see one fixed up.
That Rock Gaurd is great stiff makes things look great!
Does it stop existing rust? If so, it is great STUFF.
@@daddysails8926 Removing the rust in a can
I hope Doug gets well looked after, hes an excellent labourer who does everything hes asked to do without a complaint, very hard to get labourers like that nowadays.
How about a live pod QnA, with all of you chad, jo, Doug, and Nate. Just so the fans can feel a little more in touch and personal?
thanks for the tip earplugs ti keep threads clean
I got a tip for partially use spray cans that plug up after they have dried. Take the tip off and spray clean with brake cleaner, also the can side nipple. All you need is a spritz and they'll be as clean as new.
And yes that rock gard sure makes it look much better.
joelene should appear more often on the video , that will increase easily double amount of viewers , guaranteed , just a suggestion ...
Looking good Chad! Great camera work Queen Jolene👍🏼 It’s nice to know I can turn your videos on and not have to worry about offensive stuff. Some of the jokes are funny too 😂You too Doug🫵🏻👍🏼 What a good group of people you all are.
LOOKING GOOD!
You know how much you got into it but you don't want to tell. I respect that Chad
@@rheidtech you know it's more than that he didn't add the labor
@rheidtech I know but you know that it's more than what he is asking for that's all I am saying. 8500 is a steal especially for what he's got into it
JOLENE IS SO GOOD WITH THE CAMERA THAT SOME TIMES IT'S HARD TO SEE THAT SHE HAS MOVED TO A DIFFERENT PLACE
Most restored cars I have seen look to good. Better looking than new
He isn't restoring it. He has told you 50 times lol.
I'd like to see an entire exterior of a car done in rock guard. I'll bet it would look badass, plus the added protection.
I know someone who have painted their 4x4 in a protective paint called Raptor in Australia. Has a similar texture and very hard wearing.
I have to agree, on repairs snd restoration, two different things.
this will help in your sound proofing the cab too
Thanks appreciate that
Thanks that's a great idea nice . Your making it sound like more reliable . People are going to notice the extra effort you put in to keep the rust away ! Thumbs-up Jolene ❤and Chad and team Hiltz ! Your doing the best job you want ! Hey Douglas !
The rock guard looks great, I usually use bed coating, or just paint wheel wells, need to try it on my 62 C10 Project. Thanks.
The rock guard will reduce road noise from stones…it’s an excellent idea…over a painted surface (if you intend on keeping the car on the road for years…)
my vision is not to hotrod it up, but the intake, and and carbs idea is cool for show. my vision is to leave it the way it is with bare metal, but it will be covered in rust after a few days without anything to protect the look. i think the ass end is good the way it is. the old red one in your yard was set to have a really low rear, but that is how my grandfather in-law wanted it as it was cool to have a low ass end in the 50's. that's if you're going to sell it to me so i can have a savoy again that will last me another 30 years
Hey Chad... Greetings from Australia.........This is a serious/ honest question... Will the car get a clear coat over the bare metal? I don't fully understand when you say that your going to keep it in "Bare metal"... Please explain! 👍👍🦘🦘
Surprised that you didn't remove the headlight buckets before the black understating was sprayed , why cut those corners ?
I do this is what I do all the time and it works good
How is the frame , full of rust as the rest of the car ?
How's your frame?
If you would watch all the videos you would know the answer to your question !!!!!
500 pounds of corrosion covered up not including what he’s covering up today!
Go Rock guard !
It sticks good to rust and dirt.
Seals it ! Looks great ! 🤨👍🏻
Most impressive !
You should use rust neutraliser before the rockguard , looking good BTW .
Does the rusted metal under the black spray continue to rust or does it hold the rust at thst level
The rock guard treats the rust and prevents it rusting further more. It has them properties unlike rubberized coatings. Don't get them mixed up! I see a lot of people saying it will continue to rust. It's so far from the truth. If he would of just rubberrised it, it would continue to rust.
It looks fantastic new.
Very wise to spray those parts with the stone guard. Best wishes.
I agree just give it to Doug, what great video thst would make.
Definitely looks good Chad and Doug Jolene Nice work
Always a good lesson
You made me think of something, Chad. Back when I was making containment pans and grinding all the sharp edges and the welds down to get them ready to roll some paint on them, I would use cigarette butts for earplugs because we didn’t have any around as a rule. We had leather gloves and eye protection but that’s about where we drew the line.
Ever use rust converter 1st then undercoat/rock guard? I've been doing that for the last 2 years with great results!!
If I was to own this car, I think I would shell out the coin to have Chad paint it. I would keep it stock, save for putting the dual four barrel manifold and carbs. I would probably have it painted fire engine red, have the standard fire dparment decals on the door and period correct emergency lights. Also a siren either under the hood or surface mounted. I ws a volunteer fire fighter for 25 years. this car would be so cool for parades.
Excellent look with the blacked out "Rock Guard". I know Chad speaks from experience and in plain simple terms that he has grown use to but when Chad refers to "Rock Guard", is there a specific BRAND that he uses? There are so may coatings listed when you do a search on "Rock Guard" as it is a pretty generic term.
That car would look its best Red & white like Christine mag wheels and side pipes she's a keeper
I'm liking that 56 the way it is now 😊
Me too. I’m getting a quote to see what it would cost me to get it to Wisconsin
Hello from New Orleans
This car will be a keeper after all this nice work!
Repair is part of a restoration. When you buy replacement parts for a car it is part of the restoration. You are trying to separate repair form restoration and you cannot.
Rock Guard over corosion, good job , like you say you are not restoring it, you are ensirig the coorosion will pop out later
I agree. Doug deserves the car💯🙏
At the least I would spray primer on outside to prevent flash rusting .
Nah, clean the metal to bare an clear coat it. Tint out the windows and put black rims on it, and send it
Rock guard covers a lot of sins and makes the job look amazing!
Prevents rusting further more aswell! Unlike rubberized bed coatings ect. Rock guard has rust preventing properties in it. It's okay to spray it over a little rust like he has, spray rock guard first then undercoating is fine but don't just use rubberized undercoatings
love ur work
I make my own coating, and it covers more, and is cheaper. I mix Rustoleum black, plastic roof cement, and mineral spirits. Dries tough and last a long time.
Looks way better now and also protected for several years
Nothing wrong with rock guard. That's the perfect place for it.
You are so right 👍
I would rather do it your way Bad Chad and get the car on the road and have fun with it,the easy cheaper way is the way to go keep up the great work
Great work
The aerosol overhaul.
Should try the tick tock trick for rattle cans refill air in can with air hose
I love the rock guard idea! But what do you use on the bare metal to keep it from rusting?
A pre spray of black rust paint would be better…or slopping on some rust paint from a can…
Hi Chad... did you consider a quick phosphor wipe on the brushed-up steel before putting on the schmutz in a can? It could have been quick & cheap, & made sure those panels and stuff could handle the elements a little better. Either way, I appreciate what you do, mate. Cheers from Australia !
Hi Chad and Jolene from Trois-Rivieres Quebec
I am surprised that u didn't customize it in some way. Good job.
I always like the “please and thank you “
What is Rock Guard? Is it like truck bed armor ? How does it work to save bare metal ? Is that undercoating ? How about go ahead and Rock Guard the whole rig ? Then if I buy it I,ll just go ahead and scuff it and apply the camoflogue. 😊❤
Hello chad /Jolene ,Doug always forget him sorry
Hello to Hiltz Army you know who you are
I completely enjoy your videos, I ve learned slot.
Awesome, Thanks
Question what are you going to do to stop The car from rusting if you’re not going to paint it may be a good idea to just primary with a flat black primer
Great job guys!!!
Looking good! Thank you 🙏👍👌
