2nd Gen Toyota Tundra Grill Swap + Plastidip Emblems + Raptorliner Bumper + Headlight Restoration

  • The 2nd generation is not the best looking Tundra in stock form compared to many other half-ton trucks out there; the chrome is dated, it looks like an orca and on top of that they are getting old these days which doesn't help in the looks department. But, there are some simple DIY Tundra mods you can do that give it a totally new look to the front end of the truck, the headlights and the emblems. All these combined give a totally different look to the truck.
    #2ndGenerationTundra #ToyotaTundraMods
    So, how do you make an ugly truck better looking without breaking the bank?? ...This video is a before and after of some cheap, simple do it yourself Tundra modifications for the aesthetics of the truck that made a world of difference on this 2010 Toyota Tundra SR5 TRD Off Road:
    -Toyota Tundra Rock Warrior Grill Swap
    -Tundra Raptor Liner Front Bumper With A Spray Can
    -Plastidip Toyota Tundra Emblems - Hyerdip Matte Black
    -Plastidip Grill Emblem Graphtie
    -Tundra Headlight Refresh With Mothers NuLens
    All of these mods cost under $400 and make a world of difference for the looks of this truck. In-person the truck really looks closer to a modern Tacoma or Tundra TRD Off Road. The end goal is to make the truck look a lot better while still looking classy, factory, OEM, Etc. The "black-out" or "murdered out" look tends to look best on trucks with white, black, grey, or red colors, but will still look pretty good on a Tundra with red or blue paint too.
    The Toyota Tundra Rock Warrior grill was easily acquired from eBay for under $250 brand new with all necessary hardware. The Raptorliner was the spray can type and was bought from Oreillys auto parts, it was sprayed on top of the Raptorliner etching primer because the bumper was chrome. The emblems we dipped with Plastidip from DipYourCar. And the Tundra's headlight restoration was done with the Mothers NuLens Headlight Renewal Kit with the powerball. All of these mods took about one 8 hour day.
    Next up, this truck will get a new front bumper from Demello off-road with Baja Designs LED lights, it will get LED headlights, a roof rack with a lightbar and a few more things to go from a facelift to a true facial reconstruction. This truck is going to be a hybrid tow rig, overlander and everyday driver.

    • @SourceADV
      @SourceADV  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Brandon! I spent about 1.5 hours sanding the chrome with 80 grit sandpaper then hit it with an etching primer. The etching primer helps make sure the top coat can bond to the chrome. Hope that helps!!

    • @SourceADV
      @SourceADV  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Just to note too. If you are doing a paint match with normal gloss paint you’d want to do 80 then a fine grit sandpaper otherwise you’ll see scratches. The bedliner hides all imperfections, that’s why I love it. Cheers

    Just a couple of quick questions...
    1st...with the RW grille, does it completely remove the entire chrome or is there an outer piece you have to get separately? I have a 2012 Tundra Crewmax TRD in the Magnetic Grey color and i want it to be color matched, do the RW grille come in that color or is it shipped in prepared black primer color as thats all I've been able to find as of late.
    Not saying the black wont look good but I'd like to keep it color matched so it doesnt look like it was in an accident "cheap replacement" look to it although black may give off a more aggressive look.
    2nd...when you blacked out the enblems, I saw that you just painted them black...what color code black and did you have to pit a coat of clearcoat on them and are they still black, how are they doing color wise with the rainy weather and all?
    Or is it better to just buy the blacked out emblems from ebay?
    Again, sorry for the stupid questions. I am about to take on upgrade projects for my 2012 Tundra Crewmax TRD starting with the Morimoto XB LED White DRL headlight assemblies which will be here according to the Fedex tracking, this coming Thursday..

    • @SourceADV
      @SourceADV  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      All good! The RW grille is a complete piece including the inner grille and emblem. I bought mine on EBay.
      The emblem blackout was done with Plastidip Hyperblack, no clear coat needed. They are still doing good over 1.5 years later. I’ll probably respray them in a couple more years. Just make sure to follow the instructions from the “Dip Your Car” guys on TH-cam and you can buy the Hyperblack from them. I couldn’t find the emblem overlays for our year of truck, only the 2014+. If they make them now, definitely go with those, way easier and way more durable than plastidip (the emblems will last for ever as long as you clean the chrome ones well before sticking them on).
      Cheers!

      @@SourceADV thanks for the info. Yeah I been trying to figure out who sells a Magnetic Grey one, but no one has one. I swore I saw one literally maybe a day or two ago but for the life of my old ass 53 yr old brain of mine, I can't remember where I saw it.
      I was on The Toyogarage or whatever their name is website and it keeps saying "will not fit your vehicle" as well as a couple other parts websites selling the RW grille with the amber lights.
      I might have to just check ebay and get a black one and see if my local shop here can color match it to my truck. Thanks for the info about the emblems too.

The grill is the correct choice tho.
