If you beat it like with a sledgehammer it will break but for those with concerns, the reason it works is because the headphone jack slides in and touches the contacts. The reason it wiggles when it stops working is because it’s been pulled off of the contacts. In theory it should be fine. Sometimes they are beyond easy repair and you just have to be careful with bumping the cable
Connect the headphones on a different device if you hear fine then its a controller problem. You can also try using different headphones (if you have a spare pair) with the controller just to make sure.

No you are better off taking it apart, it could get damaged on the board by knocking it with a toothpick.
