Happy to see you back, it's nice to have DS patients on here in full force. I've used these DS videos as a guideline, to possibly know what to expect as I've been going along this journey.

I really love seeing more DSrs on here as well! All WLS support is great and welcome, but it is also nice to talk vitamins and other stuff with folks on the same path. Best of luck on your journey!

First off, you were the first DS'er whose videos I watched from the beginning. Thank you so much! You put it out there and give so much information that has been helpful to me pre-op. I'm in the camp that says it doesn't matter what the negative consequence is, the struggle is real and my support is here for you.

Another great video, Amy! You're so right about the carbs. I indulged in a few myself over the holidays, and I could easily feel myself slipping back into the addiction. I could feel the carb high this time, when I couldn't feel it before. It was scary!

We are in the same boat - it is so easy to do, and it is a slippery slope. Community support is key - amd I am here for you too!

We have the same surgery! doc said he made mine 250-280 cm (near 3 meters, I believe) so, I am so happy you keep vlogging! I learn from and am inspired.

Switched Focus Hi Amy! I have watched all your videos and gained a wealth of knowledge about the DS procedure. I have an appointment with Dr. Enochs tomorrow and I would love to chat with you a minute if you have time. Thanks! Cindy.

My wife and I have enjoyed your videos throughout our DS journey. We are both about 3 months out from surgery and together have lost 145 (many more to go). We wanted to thank you for your blog. It truly has been helpful (best one on TH-cam). Quick question: Have you ever tried using nutritional yeast as another suppliment for protein and B12?

Would love to hear more about DS. If you are a larger person do they reduce the size of the channel?

Hey Michael. I don't know how on earth I missed your comments. They just popped up on my screen. It may be too late to respond to your question, but I figured it was still worth a try. The DS is a more complex surgery (because the surgeon has to connect your small intestine at two separate points - also called anastamoses). For this reason, many surgeons don't offer the DS, and will push you toward the surgeries they do offer. This is ok, but if you decide that the DS is for you, don't compromise. Depending on where you live, a surgeon that performs this surgery well should be relatively close by. As for adjusting the size of the channel, yes many surgeons do adjust based on your weight or based on what is called the Hess Method. The Hess Method involves measuring the ACTUAL length of your small intestine (rather than assuming you are average), and then setting your anastamoses locations proportionally. Kind of like a custom-tailored suit. That being said, my surgeon is a pretty big proponent of the idea that the older school methods of leaving a tiny common channel 50-100cm caused too many GI issues and potential malnutrition down the road, so he sticks with a minimum 250cm common channel for most of his patients. I have been completely happy with that approach so far, but I am just one data point. Hope this helps!
