Would have been nice to hear the v8 and the whine instead of that music which soundes like something from a health and safety / manual handling video. Stonking car all the same though.
this car didn't get the respect it deserves
My dad had one of these Jags when I was 6, I loved this car so much the exterior design and the whine of the supercharger were the things I liked the most about it and still miss that car after all these years.
I owned the S Type 3.0 V6....liked it so much I thought I'd upgrade and buy the 4.2 V8 R. Totally different cars! The V8 R Type is crazy fast !!!! It you can, get a well looked after one! Mine had a full service history and new brakes all round. I love the look of the car, the luxury and options and the power! I'm getting 27MPG, although it does take premium gas. Worth every penny! YOLO !!!!
Nigol66 there's a white STR in my area for sale for 8 grand, would you recommend the STR?
***** Yes - I love mine - to torture a cliche ... it's a fist in a velvet glove and both my S types have been very reliable.
I would highly recommend the jag str. I like the description of - it's a fist in a velvet glove 😀. It really is and mine is reliable too.... I love it !!!

I agree entirely. The whole point of having a powerful car is that when you unleash the power it stimulates your senses. If you don't like it buy a Rolls Royce.
This was a great vehicle. My friends parents had one when it came out pall those years ago. White with red leather interior. It made a glorious noise. And I remember a funny weird thing Iiked.....the sound of the seat belt warning when the seat belt wasn't buckled. Lol.
I love my S-Type R! So fun to drive and great brakes! 20 years old now. But I've had numerous repairs, unlike my 98 XJR and 2000 XKR. Repairs like front and rear suspension, rear wheel bearings ($!), engine mounts, and those magnificent Brembo brakes! ($). Overall, a great car, but make sure the transmission is in good shape because it is married to the VIN number (tranny swap not an option).

S type r has 1 super charger
S type 2.7 has twin turbo

I clocked mine at 174mph. I wouldn't do it again tho. Scared the crap out of me!!! I did 140mph years ago on my motorcycle but doing 174 in my jaguar was more intense. 😉

My GPS recorded the top speed, I won't delete it LOL I know I'll never do that again, plus I just changed the front tires and they only have a top speed rating of 130mph so there's no way I'd take a chance. Enjoy! 😉
I have the xj now all I need is this, an Elise, and the 360 spider. Also since its limited to 155 it is the same speed as my xj8

Why play the stupid bloody music right through the test? You tell us it has a terrible supercharger whine.... we can't hear it! We have no idea how the car sounds at all.
Unfortunately the majority of videos on cars get ruined by stupid music.
God, this show was crap. Just lots of clichés and very patronising. If a bloke has a problem with the sound of a V8 being fed with a supercharger, maybe he should do gardening or golf...
Is it something about the male ego that says you must not talk about something interesting because the no-hopers who watch it will get bored, so let's add some annoying music like they do on Top Gear, a program where they drive vehicles and are watched by no-hopers who could never afford them. Then, they'll feel part of it. If the video is interesting, you cannot add additional interest.
