    I have a 2006 S Type 3 litre V6, last of the real Jags. Top end of the range luxury saloon. I've owned many Jags from MK 2's to XJ6's to XJS's V12. My S Type is absolutely superb and so well equipped, from touch screen sat nav to blue tooth phone system, heated seats, f/r parking sensors, cruise control etc. Very economical for such a large engine and so much power. Cannot fault this Jag.🐅

    What a surprise! I clicked on this TH-cam video because I have owned a 3 ltr 2007 S Type for nearly 12 years and I love it as much as i did the day I drove it for the first time. However, imagine my surprise when my old school, Stonyhurst College and its environs, appeared as a backdrop to Richard Hammond's review. I now live in Western Australia, which is a million miles in more ways than one than the (often) cold and damp West Lancs countryside but nevertheless it was wonderful to see this beautiful car in a setting that I remember with great fondness. As far as the car is concerned, if you can find a good S Type, buy it, but try and find one that is as late as possible. The restyle etc, that occurred in 2003 makes this car even more special, to my eyes at least, and that is what I would suggest you buy. IMHO, the post 2003 S Type has one big advantage over its German rivals - class!

    My first Jag was an S type 3ltr and I loved it, so much so that my next five cars have all been Jags. My current car is the best yet, a 3ltr diesel XJ Portfolio, power, luxury, handling, economy and a huge grin factor to own and drive.

    Superb car and very underrated. Today it is a classic rare youngtimer. Its a headturner and the prices witch collectors pay for good S Types, especialy for left Hand drive cars from 2004 and later, go up since 2 - 3 years.

    I never really thought this model was quite up there.I felt Jaguar lost their way for a bit with the s type and the x type after dropping the big XJ. I have moved to a face lift XF which is amazing.and from what i hear could be the last saloon Jaguar ever make.😢moving to the Paces only.Which i think is not only a great shame but also a great mistake.

      I have a early 02, with the 3.0L V6 and manual transmission. The few issues I have to report are a bit of rust underneath but not problematic. I will cure it in 2020, just removing the rust and painting to prevent rust. There is a little pipe allowing the air to get into the fuel tank (sorry, I don't know the name of it) which is full of rust, I'll replace it but I need to remove the full rear suspension. It will allow me to change every rubber parts and the rear dampers to get everything brand new though everything is fine with all the rear end, I prefer to do everything once rather than getting all the suspension down for a little pipe and two month later having to get it down again for a roll bar brush. 3rd issue: front passenger loud speaker doesn't work (the wires are causing it).

  • @mndlessdrwer
    @mndlessdrwer 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    The real problem with the Jaguar S-type is the looming sensation that far too much of it has been parted out of the Ford parts bin. It isn't necessarily a bad thing, it just doesn't look as upmarket as it should for a Jaguar.

    • @martind349
      @martind349 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      What would the interior look like if it weren't conservative? I don't understand what people want from these little saloons. I have an X and love the grey interior, tan leather looks garish and cheap when i look at a different model.

    • @mndlessdrwer
      @mndlessdrwer 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@martind349 the problem is the plastics. Pretty much every plastic part in a Jaguar from those years feels cheap. Influence from Ford, no doubt. It makes for a less expensive car, but it also feels lower quality in equal measure.

    • @crazyjkz
      @crazyjkz 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@mndlessdrwer Very true. These earlier S-type interiors used a lot of Ford parts and components, and it definitely didn't do a good job hiding it. The 2003+ revised interiors were a big improvement and were less Ford and more Jag in both parts and design.

      Great choice, Tim. My 07 2.7D has 122000 on the clock, driven daily and has been pretty much trouble free. Don't believe the heathen! They are great cars if looked after and well maintained. One tip I can give is to make sure the battery is kept in tip top condition. A lot of electrical faults and warning lights can manifest if the battery is not 100%. I have invested in a ctek 5.0 battery charger and leave the old girl on a charge overnight once a week, especially in Winter or if doing a lot of short runs with all ancillaries on. I also have a solar trickle charger that I use if away from home and have no access to a power point. I also change the battery every 3 years regardless. Checking the battery should always be your first recourse if the car starts throwing up restricted performance messages or EML light comes on, DSC not available message or gearbox fault messages. The sensors are very sensitive to voltage drop and 9 times out of 10, that will be the problem and will save you a fortune in garage bills. Happy Growling!... Oh, and don't forget to fit a leaper, it ain't a Jag without one!!

    For years, Jaguar launches here included something along the lines that they knew that quality in the past had not been as good as it might, but that this new model had overcome that. Same lines at the launch of the S type . One journalist reported hearing the comment. getting into his test car and driving off. Before he reached the front gate a sun visor had fallen off.... Samedi Haunts I have seen a dozen petrol with manual gear boxes jags, X and S types around Leeds,UK daily and go as low as 700 pounds,i would admit I have seen a few Diesel engines with manual gear boxes but I’m sure this P.O.S is not a rare in any form or considered a collectible

      You see it is really all about pace. You should try 08 R. Personally I rarely race my four door saloons. It is nice to know they can get away but it really is bad form to take the family car to a race.

      Michael Bannister No. Never gonna get a Jag again after this one! unreliable AS FUCK! I went to limbo mode all the time, if not electric fault...But you could feel how slow it was! I bet my 1,4 Turbo Polo would eat it! It only have 150 Bhp and can go on two cylinders..

    Everything about the S-Type is goppingly awful, especially that hideous retro Grille. I really can't stand that car which tries to hark back to the 60's instead of being modern and fresh and as for the interior, it's just plain underwhelming. Definitely not Jaguars finest hour by any standards.
