GT7 in VR is especially impressive when you own or know how given car looks like in reality and then you go into VR and every bit is just where it is supposed to be. In cockpit view I even catch myself on trying to touch knobs, switches etc. Because they feel so real.

GT7's latest crop of scanned models are legitmately end game in their detailing. Set for multiple generations of reuse, and all they need is more console/platform horsepower to utilize the higher LOD models we see, like in the VR showroom.
Looking at ACE's models, they're inconsequentially near-as good as GT7's, but we can see those tiniest of details are more 1:1 from Polphyony. Really, the only points of criticitsm for GT7's car visuals are the lighting: if they could reduce the bloom and slightly increase overall dynamic range, they'd be visually faultless given current hardware constraints.
Where GT will likely remain untouchable is their lighting. It's scary how good they are at that stuff. Ironically, that same sh*t's been Forza's single biggest weakness since the dawn of time.

GTSport and GT7 dynamic range actually renders natively to 10,000 nits and downmapped to your display capability, this is mentioned in PD's engine presentation. The bloom is likely a result of undisplay-able specular highlights being downmapped to consumer display level. There is nothing that does 10,000 nits unless you borrow Christopher Nolan's editing monitor maybe.

One criticism about the comparison between the headlights of the Porsche: that particular model from that era of the 911 actually had those metal rings around the headlights, and they are only present in the ACE model of the car but not in the GT7 model. And if you look at the cars from that era, they didn't have flush transitions between the different parts but uses to have pretty visible gaps, and even nowadays cars don't have perfectly flush transitions. So regarding this particular aspect the models in ACE are actually more accurate.

Sometimes, I think people in the comments just don't want a game to look better. Lol. That's thinking backward. It just seems like some are saying it's not going to look better because they don't want it to. I always want a new game to look better than their predecessors, or even a completely different game like FM or GT. I wanted FM to blow GT outbof the water with visuals, but here I am.. disappointed.
Hard to tell, but the cars look pretty close in my opinion with these shots. Id be happy with this if we get tracks looking just as nice with some good lighting as well. And as ridiculous as I may sound with grass, please keep it thick. FM looks too flat. It just makes the game look like it has more depth when the grass is dense. It definitely changed since pre release trailers.

My point of view is especially in VR with GT7. When you're driving, you can see the odometer rolling and when you pick up your car several days later, it picks up the odometer where you really left off. It's so good. When you turn on the headlights you see the dashboard indicators light up. Another of the craziest things about GT7 VR is that when you're driving at night and a driver is behind you, his headlights illuminates your interior, even dazzling you if you stare too long into the interior mirror... it's just crazy! And the road deteriorates as the rain falls, the mud, the effects of aquaplaning and loss of grip when the track is slightly curved causing water to flow down the inside of the bend, the wind that causes the rain to change directions (and your drags) - in short, this game is insane if you take the time to really test it in VR, forgetting your sarcasm and PC/PS5 preconceptions. Not mentioning the amazing VR Replay from the track as spectator. all this good vibes are in my video here:

tbf these are almost two different genre of games
gt7 being a good simcade with sandbox like mechanics, developed to meet standards of console gaming with big support to controllers
ac was a full on simulator with no real support to controllers (only a few years ago added good support with mods) just a raw - "take any car and drive anywhere you want and thats it"
so realistically it cant take the crown of gt7 because its competitors are games like forza, test drive, project cars, etc sandbox simcades

@@sxdattxb Gran Turismo is not a simcade. The only reason this is said is because Gran Turismo is a simulator designed for the average person to enjoy, with the low entry barrier of being a console game. GT7 is a driving simulator, not a racing simulator. Similarly, ACE is also a driving simulator. They are both in the same category, despite the false simcade claims. For instance, why can GT match real-life lap times, car movements, etc., if it's not a sim? To say it's not a simulator is, in my opinion, misguided. th-cam.com/users/shortswJO9F4-3Ezo

@@AutomotiveVP to make it clear - i believe that gt7 is the best game at its league for sure - far ahead of anything on the market.
but all these compromises that it takes to set a lower bar of entry for an average gamer - is just a "nope, thank you" for me as for a sim racer who puts simulation quality above everything else.
i dont care about visuals, i dont care about polygon count on models when the models are optimized, i dont care about any mechanics, bells and whistles. im just a guy that is getting old and grumpy, i drove irl for 11 years daily, i drove just a few but enough cars on track - to be able to convince and immerse myself in gt7 physics. just cant make it. cant believe in it. in russia we even have the basic, but widely popular quote\catchphrase from theatre - "I dont believe it!" (Stanislavsky K. S. you can google it, its hard to explain (because you can translate "the meaning from russian to another language") but pretty basic tbh).
ffb feels empty and slow (partly because console latency), tire grip feels too plasticky (lacking the feel of tyre biting in the asphalt), suspension feels like it somehow have latency (it shows on tracks with big height changes), weird feel of weight shifting, wrong threshold between oversteer and understeer, i can go on.
i really hope it will become better in gt8, or some spinoff with more real intent, because its for sure doable, just a few digits in handling.meta files...
but realistically speaking - i wouldnt put this game into simulator category, because it will be on the last place there for me (right now last place there if we only count big games is ams2), just because for me its not about how good the game is - but whats it called. if its called simulator - it should fully simulate all those aspects above. atleast try to fully simulate those (like ams2 do).
but if we consider its a simcade - it will be for sure top1 game, kinda even transcending thru this category.

    • @sxdattxb
      @sxdattxb 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

@@AutomotiveVP gotta also tell that i find compromises that ACC made to become a multiplatform title with full controller support - are also moved that game for me closer to the simcades, as well as other bad things with it (mostly because of UE4 engine - bad performance, plasticky graphics, very poor vr performance is a big con for me, on the physics side- its wrong thresholds for oversteer to understeer, weird tyre grip at some moments, absolutely wrong braking logic, weird setups that are sometimes counterintuitive, weird suspension at some moments, collisions between cars) but its still in the category of simulators for me just because of overall competitiveness scheme, somewhere wrong, but in depth tyre, chassis flex, weight transfer, and some other things in its physics. probably best sound out of all racing games ever (but needs to be tweaked by hand because some things are not that loud irl). tracks are looking arguably the best in the industry too. car interior looking lively, really good and indepth ui in-race, fast matchmaking, good rating system, better sportsmanship overall (obv not as good as in iracing).
BUT! ACC only stated on its cover that it is a videogame, not a simulator. And it is a little bit scaled down simulation in some parts, but highly updated more advanced simulation in other parts that are mostly not that much about handling feel. Thing is - AC1 engine is very much capable of being the most hardcore in depth realistic simulator, but its first version in 2014 - lacked a fine tuning of some stuff, so they kinda left it like that, because it was forgiving and still simple enough for a new players while also having already the best FFB (that is unbeated by this day). But they gave us basically almost open source of the physics engine, and its engine itself, so people created outstanding high level of simulation car mods, that are usually behind the paywall. theres tons of good mods that are free with really damn high quality of simulation, especially with updated suspension (cosmic) and tyre model physics. also the maps - theres not hunderds, but thousands of them. you can basically make a map of your local area in a few days and start racing there.
but the worst part is that people can also make unrealistic cars, unrealistic maps or conversions from other games. it makes ac look goofy imo, but thats the price we pay for having such an open source simple sandbox.
and what is simple in being true to reality - wins

You keep bringing up TDUSC on videos that have nothing to do with it. Did they promise us anything? Surely they didn't go all out like Turn10 did with their lies.
I look at things differently. It's open world. A 1:1 map of a real place. It's very dense with buildings, parking garages, and very dense vegetation. It'll probably be harder to run than an empty open world like Forza Horizon with those big open spaces.
But it is a small team. Not some triple A team. For what it is, it looks great. The director also said (if we trust his words) that it was a really early build demo. He also went on and said this:
“We know that houses made an impression on TDU players,” Creative Director and franchise veteran Alain Jarniou wrote. “While this feature is not in the game when TDUSC launches, it is part of a long list of features we have already researched for future content in the medium and long term."

    1) Actually the GT7 interior was much worse. Are we looking at the same screenshots? That gearstick was bad by comparison and the buttons etc, leather was lower detail and more.
    2) GT7 has what I call "magic lighting"... I don't know how they do it. As a designer myself I can spend hours looking at a single screen from GT7 and ponder on how the hell their lighting is calculated. Its amazing!
    3) Another thing that really baffles me is how they build their car model headlights (and rear lights)... Even more magic. Again, absolutely amazing!
    4) Lastly, geometry detail. Idk what these ACE shots are, but these GT7 shots are not in race. Chances are ACE max detail is not different in showroom (it wasn't in AC or ACC, so who knows)
A very important detail, when you sit there and look at the cars to this detail, but not sure how much it even matters in every single other case.
So to recap, the geometry really isn't surprising me at all in GT7, its just more polygons, for a specific mode. Nothing special. And will affect zero outside of that mode.
But lighting, and some textures, sure are so on point in GT7.
Car paint on the other hand. I am not sold that GT7 is better just yet. We need more shots, and most preferably shots from on track from both games. I really need to see more detail on ACE to be able to place it next to GT7, we have little to go by. At this point there are certain car models from mods in AC that are as good already. Soooo, yeah very little to go by.
Also one aspect that GT7 that it doesn't do realistically is the blur. It feels like a camera filter than actual human eyes looking at the world. Which in a way can help with making it feel more real, as if you are looking through a cam, and this is a great trick too.
Track detail I am not even bothering to talk about, track detail is already better in ACC, much less ACE.
So yeah, we have little to go by, but still fun to make comparisons.
But, at the end of the day, these are details that are so small, honestly nobody is going to care if the cars are slightly better in GT7 or ACE. What matters is content. And of course physics and game play too, but we can expect ACE (fingers crossed they don't fk it up) to be better in that department it has managed to be better already twice. Content though... Hmmm, this can be a concern. We are talking about an indie studio by comparison, and then on the other hand we have Polyphony which has made a few hundreds of millions on this franchise. Its a tall order.
ps, you don't know why people call GT7 a simcade?
The reason is because its physics model is much less detailed than other sims.
I personally don't think its a simcade, I believe its a sim, full stop. It simply is not on the same level as other sims. Its actually in some areas, rather far even.

      False

    • @AutomotiveVP
      @AutomotiveVP  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

I’m happy to debate comments like this. As I mentioned in the video, lighting will affect this, and I'm waiting for the game to come out before I can give a true comparison. When you talk about the texture on the interiors of the car, I believe what affects GT in this video is the foliated rendering while in VR. It’s not focusing on the gearstick for some reason, but that may be because of the eye tracking as I was looking around.
Regarding the track details in ACC, only the Nurburgring seems on par with GT7, although they have some spray paint in the wrong areas on ACC but more updated track, minor details. Also, this was taken in-game, not in Scapes for GT7. The only Scape shot was the back end of the Alfa Romeo, but that was my first screenshot. I then decided it was too hard to match the angle using Scapes. Additionally, the promo pictures never matched up in ACC, so we will have to wait for the game to come out before we can even attempt a truthful comparison. I guess all games do promo pictures; even GT had some better-looking shots in its promo to some degree.
When you talk about the physics department and say AC has already done it twice, I disagree. The original one is terrible without mods, well, not terrible, but your cars are like soapboxes, and it felt really cheap. For instance, I could slide GT cars around a lot of corners doing a sharp turn, and it would just swing the car around without any weight transfer. I understand they go into a lot more detail with settings, and most people will say that's why it's better, but I always think that’s like saying Forza Horizon has more car settings in the garage, so it's more realistic. You could argue about tire pressure, but when it comes down to driving, they all feel good, but GT7 has a lot of variety and do really well.
GT7 feels like the cars you’re driving. Not just that, the dynamic weather, the way the cars handle in the rain, the ABS, the traction, etc., have always felt better in GT7. But this is my conclusion with the physics: I think AC overdoes the physics, and GT somewhat underdoes the physics maybe, also GT7 can match the real-life lap times in the same cars with the same movement almost to the pinpoint time set in real life. For instance, the Mercedes GT3 AMG can go full throttle on one of the corners in real life on the ring, and you can do the same in GT7 at the same speed. In AC, the AMG comes off the track. So, I think it's really hard to have a debate about the physics, to be honest. Even the way GT7 cars react to the bumps, Good example th-cam.com/users/shortsjMDT8Ss5_ec Not just that GT7 claims to be a driving simulator not a racing simulator, most people get it wrong, it's the fact that Gran Turismo is a simulator designed for the average person to enjoy due to it's entry point been on console. IMO BTW.
I appreciate the time you put into this comment. I enjoy a good debate, especially a friendly one. You can't deny how much better the paintwork is in GT7. I'm sure they have a lab dedicated solely to the paint aspect of the game, ensuring that all the real-world paint colors match real life. I'm not sure why you would say GT7's paints are not as good. The metallic specs are like glitter in real life, not big flakes like in ACE or Forza Motorsport.
Nevertheless, it will be good to run these games side by side upon release. I think they are going to be neck and neck. (I HOPE)

@@AutomotiveVP there are so many things i can pick apart from this comment, again in the heart of debating and not in a toxic nature. But I am at the beach right now and man it is annoying to type on a phone. I can touch on a few things whilst Im here, like the Driving Simulator excuse. It is an excuse. Car physics are car physics, there is nothing different about these physics. Racing with them is the extension of driving. This is a GT7 fanbase excuse. What determines the difference between racing car or not is the setup. And GT7 has racing cars. So this is an invalid take.
By the same extension because the original AC has stock cars too its not a racing sim. That is a thought process that will just start spiraling out.
GT7 does not feel like real cars, and the primary reason is understeer. This is an issue and direction the franchise has had since gt3. Any real car can be jerked MUCH more in real life. This is a constant gripe I've had with the franchise for ages. I struggle to agree with anyone that says it drives realistically. Every car I have driven in real life I have been able to steer much faster and induce oversteer to a degree not possible in GT7. And oversteer is always better than understeer when racing. And fact of the matter is, in GT7 EVERY event is a race, you start on a grid, get on a track against others, and race for positions. More proof its an invalid excuse. Its not just a driving experience. Truck Simulator is a driving experiences.
Going on grass is almost non existent, as is in many cases hitting walls. They just bounce you back.
The tyre model is nowhere near as complex as other sims.
Again, it is a sim, for sure, simply not as deep in the physics.
As for AC, on controller or racing wheel? On controller it is worse, I agree, on racing wheel.... ummm... no. Again, the very thing gt7 players seem to not be able to get to grips with. Oversteering and then trying to bring the car back will snap it if you don't do it right. Unless if i read it wrong. Again Im quickly responding, if I can i will return later for a better look at the comment.

  • @dct124
    @dct124 หลายเดือนก่อน

The reason GT7 looks so good comes from them leaving out so damn much 😅 Drive through dirt and gravel, watch your car still have a 5 stage car wash and detail 🤣
Zero and I mean zero dirt and gunk build up on race cars. Just by driving on 1 lap behind someone in a real race car, your windshield develops dirt, gunk from rubber, and smudges and scratches from debris.
Physics will always trump graphics when determining a game as sim or sim-cade. GT7 is a sim-cade. It's almost as if they used that last 10% of memory and development that would make it a sim on visuals. While the visuals are great, they get light wrong in many areas. For starters the giant blobs of specular highlights are incredibly wrong and just extra.
In real life specular highlights are small and even when driving into the sun directly out eyes stop down just like a camera lens creating starburst of around f/8 or higher. Guess which game chose to actually emulate that? Forza. Each game picks and chooses what part of reality to emulate. The sun in GT7 is just wrong. It looks as if they chose to instead of using a sun model, they chose to use a studio style light instead. Which is why mostly everything looks so dramatic. Reality ain't dramatic ok.
You can tell they chose to limit rain, particle effects, vehicle damage, and vehicle destruction (flipping).
Lastly every car in GT7 looks like it has a 5 or 7 stage clear coat job, and it has a damn 3 to 5 stage detail and color correction 😅 like every car going to a damn car show or museum.
Does any car on GT7 get dirty? No. No exhaust build up on the back of cars, no dirt lines on windshields from wipers, no dirt or gunk on front or rear windshields. No dirt or dust on wheels, tires, body surfaces, etc. No brake dust at all. No haze from sunlight. All trees are static. There's more.
So it comes down to what you appreciate visually in a game. GT7 does car models and studio lighting is incredible, but they just ignore everything else visually when it comes to immersion aside from small details like rain droplets reacting to g-forces.
If you like everything pretty I can see why ppl gravitate to GT7 visuals. But if you like things dirty, with some grit, there's definitely other options that don't over exaggerate their graphics like film colorists.
Has Gran Turismo ever modeled side mirrors breaking or coming off? No.

It's not as bad as ACC, but it takes hella tweaking, and is always on the back foot compared to flatscreen DCS. I say this coming from someone who'd been playing DCS for 2 years, and the last year has been exclusively VR.
Also, we can't forget the (recent) time that an oculus update broke DCS for everyone using Oculus Link/Airlink for 2+ months. I will admit that AC (albeit modded) has very good VR, probably the best vr i've seen in sim racing. But DCS VR is far from a product that should be applauded as the best VR in the industry. Of what i've played (which isn't much) that goes to H3VR, but that's made with Unity, which is built to be very good at VR. DCS VR is not nearly as bad as Payday 2 VR tbf, but that's the lowest bar I can think of, aside from ACC itself.

@sxdattxb I have no clue what this other person is saying. Lol. But I've been a console player since a kid. Well, I had a PC where I played a bunch of Nascar games and some flight games back then, but moved to console. It was always just a more simple way of playing. I wouldn't go as far as saying it's for kids.
Especially when you have a system like Playstation that still has games only available to that console. I have an issue with my eyes that is not vision related, but something more complicated that no eye doctor cam figure out, so for me, sitting in front of a monitor was the worst option. Even my Trak Racer sim rig setup in front of a TV bothers me when I play.
But with all that said, I know I can still use a TV as a monitor and play on a couch. When Xbox Series X ends and we go to the next generation, I'm probably going to build a high end PC. Getting tired of being limited by my consoles. I will still keep getting Playstation though. But everything else I play, I can still play on PC...just better. I've played MSFS 2020 since release, but I'm more interested in playing it in VR and my Series X doesn't have that option. I've always wanted to play DCS and in VR and other racing games that have VR. GT7 in VR spoiled me, and I don't like racing without VR pretty much. Lol. You might wonder why a screen on my face doesn't bother me when I mentioned I can't sit in front of a monitor...it's weird. The pressure on my forehead from the headset helps the issue with my eyes. Again, no eye doctor knows what I'm talking about. Lol 🤷‍♂️
But I'm going on 40 this year. I definitely wouldn't call consoles for kids. Some of us just prefer the ease of consoles. I don't like how some games may be going to Playstation now though. Gives me more reason to switch to PC. No need for 2 consoles.

@@joescivic well i agree that initial user experience on consoles is pretty good. its easy to setup, just a few cables and press of a button. consoles have exclusives, but this generation those are extremely garbage and they also are getting ported to pc after some time
all previous generations it was night and day. really good games, pretty nice experience.
but currently its not even stagnating, its straight up profits maximization, where its at best just a sterile plot and direction, but mostly just straight up lgbtq propaganda and other "new western values". im also old enough to wait for a game to be ported to pc, so i fully skipped this generation of consoles and wouldnt regret. i also will patiently wait for gta6 to release on pc, because having your own first experience on a high refresh rate, high resolution and high settings with all the technologies- is way better experience overall than to have console to replay a game after it released on pc
pc can be used like a console - you connect it to the tv, turn on dualsense, use trackpad on it to navigate windows and launch a game, boom you have better experience in game.
you can upgrade pc, "buy" games for free on known sites (to play it like a demo version before buying), overall just a better bang for a buck.
and yes, vr on pc is the next step of gaming evolution, just like in the old books
