  • Darren Aronofsky takes on the story of Noah's Ark in a bold re-telling that is sure to raise more than a few protests. But such a mind bending director taking on such an iconic Biblical story might just be the recipe for greatness. Jeremy reviews "Noah"!

      FINALLY! Someone who understands!
      Seriously, though, Prince of Egypt didn't beat people over the head with the Scriptures, outside of some opening text. Most religious films don't do that.

      Well I liked how it managed to tell the story of God, Moses and the exodus but focused on the emotional relationship between Moses and Ramases.

      I do not live in America and ofcourse I do not think that God speaks only english. That would be a little ignorant wouldn't it? I am aware of the fact that I am broad up in a christian family, but I made the decision to believe in God by myself. Don't forget that you find Christians all over the world. Why on earth would you think that I say that atheists are clueless and wrong? I never said that and I never will, because that would be highly hypocritical.

  • @JacobMurray

    The only reason why I don't like these movies is because everyone always ends up arguing over religion.
    When will people realize that you're not going to win an argument when it comes to religion? At the end of the day, we don't know what's on the other side until we die.
    So can we all just shut the fuck up, watch the movie like a normal person and get on with it.

    • @ForlornFea
      @ForlornFea 10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I understand your point, but it's just a movie. Monotheists should be happy that a biblical story gets attention. and atheists (like me) should just practice their opinion and treat like any movie adaptation of a mythical story. It's ok for you to like the movie even if you don't believe it ever happened. Treat all myths equally and look at them as literature not as a documentary.

    Ironic that religious people are mad about liberties being taken with the biblical Noah's Ark story when the biblical Noah's Ark story was stolen straight out of the Epic of Gilgamesh.

    • @devonnicklaus3344
      @devonnicklaus3344 10 ปีที่แล้ว +28

      While much of Christian religion is stolen from mesopotamia, that is actually untrue. If you look at the two myths, they are radically different, save for the fact that there's a flood. Flood myths are across multiple religions, with no connection to each other.

    • @knpirritano
      @knpirritano 10 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Gibraltar Moorocco I don't think you understand what was meant. It is based off other flood stories that came before it. Which is TRUE because writers use and adapt other writers ideas to their own story or benefit.

    • @DarkMatter2525
      @DarkMatter2525 10 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      Gibraltar Moorocco Let us examine some flood stories that predate the bible:
      In The Epic of Gilgamesh, Utnapishtim and his family were the sole survivors of a worldwide flood. The earthwater god later regrets killing everyone in a flood.
      The Sumerian Ziusudra flood story includes: the flood being a deliberate result of a divine decision, an individual chosen to be saved from the flood, that individual is given specific instructions for how to build an ark and what to bring aboard, the ark comes to rest on a mountaintop, the hero sends out a bird to reconnoiter the land, when the hero emerges he builds an alter and offers a sacrifice to the deity and receives a blessing.
      In The Epic of Atrahasis "The land became wide and the people became numerous, the land bellowed like wild oxen. The god was disturbed by their uproar. Oppressive has become the clamor of humankind."
      I'm not comparing the whole myths the way you suggest I am; just the flood parts, which is obviously all that's relevant in this Noah review, right? Interestingly enough, however, The Epic of Gilgamesh also contains a "plant of youth" and a thieving serpent.

    *SPOILERS*
    I'm not religious at all (Atheist), and I thought the movie was stupid. It was just Noah (Who was actually sane in the bible) running around, trying to kill Emma Watson's baby. That's all it really was, I didn't care for the Golem's and thought the movie was boring. Bonus Thought: Why does Noah think God wants all humanity dead? If they all died, that would end his divine plan right then and there.

    Here is my problem with the movie. Noah's wife wore skinny jeans (80's style), the evil men used corrugated tin roof panels as shields, they had iron and serrated knives and if that wasn't enough, there was a Bazooka. I don't remember any of this from the bible.

    • @rickwilliam95
      @rickwilliam95 10 ปีที่แล้ว +24

      Well it's a movie, it doesn't have to be that realistic. I mean, the actual Noah story from the bible is not even realistic to begin with. It's a story from a book that was written 3500 years ago

    Dear religious people: Relax. As a religious person myself, I wouldn't want to pay 10 bucks to see a movie about a dude just building a boat, so a rehashing of the story is called for. If you don't like it, don't see it, it's that simple. Go see the Son of God or there is a really neat animated bible story that's out there. it's tells the stories of the bible in different animations, the claymation is my favorite. check that out for fun.

      I'm gonna have to agree with you on that one. I personally felt conflicted at the almost callousness they portrayed God through the actions that was going on. I definitely think that for the movie's angle, they made a good choice in making God a silent entity, yet you could feel his presence through what was going on.
      I will say the one thing that I applaud the movie for is how it was able to give a quite disturbing portrayal of the corruption of humanity. There was no real clear cut lines as to beware of the devil, he shall lead you astray. I really got the sense that Satan as the deceiver definitely had a major impact on the movie's world, but it was like what he did was so behind the scenes and manipulative that the spotlight isn't really cast on him.
      Also helps that the visuals were VERY beautiful. But I personally did find it a little too out there for these ancestors of the Hebrew people to be more like Dark Age Europe.

      So? This was a different take on a story, not a word for word retelling of it. Like Jeremy said, this isn't a movie that was focused to be placed on a Church Sunday School so they can learn history from it, this was another style of telling it. No one is gonna view Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland and say "Wow, that's not what happened to Alice!" or "Wow, that's not the Sleepy Hollow I've read!" because that was not the point.
      Even in the trailer you can already see it wasn't going to be something to please the Bible defenders.

    As a deeply religious person. I LOVED noah.
    It's an excellent re-telling, that borrows a lot from Jewish lore. If you think that the golden substance and the rock Angels weren't religious, you have to read up on the subject a bit. Just because t wasn't directly from our standard bible doesn't mean it doesn't exist in other Abrahamic texts.
    It was amazing.

      Even though I knew they were Fallen Angels, the Watchers kept reminding me of the later Jewish myths of Golems. And that scene where they fall from grace was visually AMAZING!
      And although I could see it as a more grim telling of the Biblical story, I swear I could almost sense a sort of...I don't know, new age belief in Yahweh (oldest name I know for our Abrahamic God)? With how they told the story of God creating everything, but it wasn't how it was word for word in Genesis, but as how geologists have theorized the earth was formed. Something I'm completely open minded to. Or how Adam and Eve were like these super meta humans.
      It was definitely interesting and kept my attention throughout.

  • @ikesteroma
    @ikesteroma 10 ปีที่แล้ว +14

    I'm a fairly Bible-thumping religious person on a certain level, and I read the story in the Bible a few times. Here's the thing about the Bible story: there's not a lot of detail for what was very likely a very complex event. Therefore I have absolutely no problem with the director/screen writers/producers taking on some creative license.

    • @Macthella
      @Macthella 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      ike evans there was almost certainly very little complexity about the Noah story.
      The last ice age caused melts and floods all over the earth, hence the survival stories turning up in so many places. Stories that would have been shared and embellished into mythology over hundreds or possibly thousands of years around firesides.
      The emergence of writing in the middle east meant that the story of Gilgamesh was one of the first that was actually *written* down.
      This particular story has since been plagiarized in both the bible and the quran.
      See nothing complex at all.

    • @ikesteroma

      ***** The flood myth is replete throughout the world. Even the Mayan Pol Pol Vuh has an eerily similar story. I've read several debates between scholars on the subject (I'm too lazy to get you a reference) and there is some dispute as to who is borrowing stories and who is the originator of stories between the Hebrew culture and their neighbors. I'm not terribly interested in debating this subject as it is something that is above my pay grade (I'm not a scholar in this field), and I don't want to take the hours to re-research books I've read on the issue.

    • @Macthella
      @Macthella 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ike evans I have already stated above the story is repeated around the world. There is no dispute about that.
      I have also stated the likely scenarios of how they get embellished by word of mouth.
      The middle east was one of the first places to formulate the written word and this was also one of the first places the Gilgamesh/Noah story was recorded as such in written or cuneiform format but not until long after it had been around numerous camp fires and changed.
      The existence of the stories is not in dispute, but they are not true as written in the 'final draft' as it were.

      I don't "believe" it's a parable. I know it is. There is absolutely no evidence outside the bible that there was ever a worldwide flood. If there were, there would be a giant ark somewhere (or some record of it outside the Bible), we would find tons of human remains who died from drowning in the flood waters (men, women, and children), we would find a sedimentary layer of the Earth's crust that's just a weird mixture of different sediments, and we would find dead remains of aquatic life in deserts and too far into mainland for it to get there any other way. We don't see any of that.
      I used to be fine with letting people believe what they want, but ever since Christians started getting Creationism into the schools as a "science" lesson, I can't anymore.

    For the many of you that didn't know, this movie is based off of a comic book. A comic book that the director and writers of this movie created several years back. It was a sci-fi fantasy rehashing of the story of Noah. A beautiful and epic story that the movie stayed faithful to, for the most part. So, of course it's not going to be like the Bible story, because it was not based off of the Bible story. Anybody who tries to compare it to the Bible story to justify their disappointment and anger with this movie, is seriously stupid. I'm sorry, but people need to do a little research before they start ranting.

      true dat but i think if the trailers had mentioned that it was based of a comic book, the controversy would have been minor.Like when 300 came out they made it clear it in the previews it was from frank miller's graphic novel so it was pretty obvious it wasnt sticking to the original story event and some characters were fantasized but this movie's trailers never made it clear n seemed to be an actual adaptation of the original story. just my opinion :)

    People aren't going to agree with me, but I actually sympathized with Noah a little in this movie. I mean, I know what the feeling of pressure is like. When the creator of everyone and everything gives you a task, you're not going to say no...moreso, you're going to be paranoid out of your fucking mind to get this job done right and not fuck it up, and for Noah, he was convinced that God wanted everyone to die, including them. That scene where he realizes that his (kinda sorts) daughter is pregnant and that he's going to have to kill a baby? He's completely heartbroken. So I don't think he's a dick. Mentally unstable, sure, but he's under an enormous amount of pressure and is in too deep to turn back.

      Generally speaking, atheists start trouble with Christians by baiting them into a discussion, then pelting them with all kinds of complex questions...knowing many Christians sadly can't explain why they follow Christ aside from the Bible. That's why doing research outside the Scriptures is so important, because science can actually be used to back up Biblical claims. The two are not mutually exclusive.

      Some of you are annoying because you come here and try to defend the story of a world-wide flood... Something for which there is no evidence for and you come and act like it's fact and people actually comment to what you say and encourage you with "amen, brother", "preach it", or "God bless you". And you get likes for such an idiotic post. I don't care if you believe it happened, but don't come here and comment and say it's fact and that there's evidence for it. When you do that then yeah I'm going to comment back and tell you you're crazy and if there's evidence then feel free to share it. And when you don't, and I call you out for being a liar then don't bitch because atheists are "bulllies" and "intolerant". If you wouldn't lie and spread bullshit or had evidence for the things that you claim were true I'd have no problem with you. That or you could just keep it to yourself and we'll continue living in the real world.

      There's tons of evidence for the Flood, but atheists reject it because they don't want to be held accountable by God. It kind of hurts me that people have no respect for the Christian religion. Yes, it requires a lot of faith in the unseen. Yes, people have done terrible things in the name of religion. But there is an unmeasurable amount of good that has come out of Christianity and religion in general. Countless organizations and churches help the needy, poor, desperate, and addicted every single day. Education itself was first established by the church. These things don't get publicized as much as the negativity. If you were to wipe all religion off the planet, I think you'd be surprised what humanity would turn into.

And yes while I agree that many good things have come from religion, the bad far outweighs the good and all it creates in our modern life is conflict. you ask what the world Would be Like Without religion, well it Would Be a damn sight better than what it is now.

    • @realpraxfilms
      @realpraxfilms 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      There have been a GREAT amount of terrible things done in the name of the religion. Christianity isn't a religion, it's a belief. Education existed since the first animals roamed the earth, billions of years ago. Education was not first established by a church. Forcing beliefs upon a group of indigenous people is not education. I believe there is a God, and I use the bible for guidance at times. I respect Christians, I work with Christians. Religion is an excuse to conquer a people. Religion is the same as politics. Without Religion there would be great peace.

    Haven't watched the film (yet), but if I'd written it, I'd have made the end turn out to be a huge misunderstanding. After the flood, the survivors travel for a while and come to completely untouched land, discovering that their supposed global flood was really just a flooding of all land as far as they knew it.
    Which is the only plausible explanation for the flood myths we know of. There are certain consistent points of evidence to be expected if a global flood had happened, none of which exist. You can only take a totally ridiculous leap of faith and hold on to the idea that all the robust evidence was warped and eliminated after the flood. Such an elimination could only be performed by the mythical God, which would be exactly at odds with this God's stated purpose of making people obey and fear him.

      Death's Hand I sense an incoming shitstorm/flood. "barely researched "facts" Oh really? Your main basis for your belief is faith, like most beliefs. Haven't you ever stopped to think to yourself: "what created us?"? If you have and if hasn't been decided for you by your family, the best you can come up with is a flying magical zombie man? I made a Macho Man religion which is much more creative then yours.

    I go to Catholic school and my religion teacher said it was one of the best bible interpretations hes seen. Also, Darren Aronofsky really read up on his theology with the rock monsters because those come from later stories telling about Moses' grandfather, I can't remember the name of it however.

    • @super16g123
      @super16g123 10 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      "it was one of the best bible interpretations hes seen"....wow. i strongly suggest you read Genesis for yourself. it wont take long at all. then think about that statement coming from a teacher.
      what later stories of Moses' grandfather? "The Nephilim were on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of man and they bore children to them. These were the mighty men who were of old, the men of renown." the nephelim (giant offspring between fallen angels and human women) are what the director chose to turn into rock monsters. seems to me the director should have just given the movie a diff title.

    • @KingLoop13
      @KingLoop13 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      super16g123 We went over Genesis for quite a while actually. And I meant Noah's grandfather, not Moses. I'm not sure what the name is, but it was seen as unimportant to the Bibles plot so it wasnt officially added. i may have that wrong, but whatever.

      still, if it was the book of Enoch that the director chose to add to the story. we are still talking about the fallen angels (watchers) mating with human women and altering the human gene pool. these angels being barred by God from ever ascending again because of the infraction and Noah's line being selected to restart humankind because his bloodline remained pure. if they were going to take liberties with the bible and include non biblical text like the book of Enoch. it just seems lame that best they could come up with out of all the interesting things in Enoch were rock monsters. that arent in either Enoch or the Bible. if they were going to go there than they should have just gone there.

  • @kleeTheDarkKnight

    They handled this movie not in a religious preachy way, but in a mythological legend way, and that's very good. Instead of "hey guys, this happened and it's a fact," it's "there is an interesting tale of epic proportions, here you go and take what you will from it."
    The way Noah carried out, I feel like this is a movie that believers and non-believers can both enjoy, and that's what these kind of movies should be. They shouldn't be made just to reconfirm the believers' beliefs, but they should be made and displayed out in the open, so even the non-believers can still say that it is an interesting story set in an interesting world

  • @Movie16Master

    I will say, I am going to see this. I like the idea of taking the story from the bible and interpreting it differently. Why does everyone take the bible word for word? It wasn't originally in English, it was written in Hebrew and Aramaic and that makes me believe that what we read now isn't what it was meant to say. I take it as a more poetic and symbolic book, and I'm curious to see how the director interpreted the story.

    • @jonathangazich7169
      @jonathangazich7169 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yea so what they say is certain parts of the Bible are meant to be interpreted differently. The story of Noah comes just a few books after the story of creation so you can’t think it’s meant to be taken word for word. I heard a scholar say the first 15-20 books of the Bible are like a poem (think Beowulf) no one really knows what happened but it’s the story and the stories meaning that matters

    As a christian I liked it. I didn't expect very much so I guess it was't that hard to impress me. However, my favorite part was that it encouraged me to research Noah's Ark and I learned quite a bit. The movie actually interpreted it well. There, believe it or not, WERE GIANTS, but in The Bible the giants, or Watchers, were angels sent to Earth to watch the humans but they had a lust for women which made them sinners so they were cursed until judgement day. The other part that was different but I could roll with because it's a movie, was the unnecessary tension about Russel Crowe killing his grandchildren. God did not intend to kill mankind. The ark had Noah and his wife, and his 3 children and their wives.

      Gary Sanders First I want to apologize to all the Christians I disappointed by conveying false information. I talked with my small group leader (who is going to be a youth pastor) tonight and he said after having a conversation about this briefly earlier this week that that is partially not true. The name "The Watchers" and that story is completely made up. What The Bible mentions is angels that went to earth based off a lust for human women. It is debated that the Nephilims existed. They are not in The Bible but some people believe the fallen angels and children with humans.
      (Also God did NOT mean to kill mankind. We know that because nowhere in The Bible does it mention Noah failing him.)

BTW the Angels that lust after human women is known as the second fall of the angels. They are the ones that teached humans how to craft weapons and other forbidden shit in exchange for sex. If you dont think God intented to kill the ppl he left in a world filled with water and no rafts or boats then you are a fucking moron. do the world a favor and walk past a 1000 ft drop because you are a fucking waste of space on this earth.

    • @elineswarts2767
      @elineswarts2767 10 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Hm, there are a few things that you either might have missunderstood or it were horrible movie mistakes because Noah was not a d*ck, he was one of the few people that were still good among all the evil on earth. And also, I don't think that "love is stronger than any god" was a message in this story, because there is no greater love than God, the real God.
      But hey, I haven't seen the movie, so maybe it's just me or maybe the movie changed the original story.

    • @KajsaBernhardina
      @KajsaBernhardina 10 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      God's love is as greater than any love. I just saw the movie and that was not the message. The main message was we all have sin, which makes it hard to do the right thing. There were so much more messages, but love being greater than God was not it. God is love.
      I'm a religious person and I loved it. It was a creative spin and many things connected well in the end. If these people are so called "religious", then they should already know the story of Noah... It's good to see something different for a change and it really did have a nice spin.

    • @elineswarts2767
      @elineswarts2767 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bernhardina Hörnstein Yeah I know, for humans it's impossible to always be good, so ofcourse Noah had flaws. But he was connected and loyal to God and that's why God saved him. I might go see the movie, I'm not sure yet.

    • @KajsaBernhardina
      @KajsaBernhardina 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      desmond1193 Oh well, the message was clear to me :) because Noah was obsessed with following Gods orders and he almost lost all that was human about him, including love, because of this. I don't really see what you mean when you say God is Love because God destroyed humanity with the flood, not only bad people but good people too.

      Technically, they aren't "part" of the Bible, but a section that was considered to be added in, called the Book of Enoch. The Book of Enoch explains the "rock people", and they are no friend of man. In video games you can get away with it (ex. Darksiders, with the Four Horsemen being the Nephilim), but directly based faith media is another matter.
      They aren't demons. They are Nephilim. Nephilim are the children of angels that mated with human females, creating giant monsters that only destroy. Essentially evil. Their dads became Satan's demons.

Mad about rock monsters, because they were not included on the original story? Well if you are mad about that wait until they also tell you that the "Hell" ppl are so fond about is not real neither, LOL. Hades became Hel wich in turn became Hell...So yah, in a 100 years we might have Rock Monsters, the Hulk, maybe a couple of Care Bears and Lady Gaga in the Bible xD

    I saw the movie and if you are a religious zealot then you will hate it. I'm a Christian and I know the story and message of Noah but OMG it was a great, heart filled movie! For the idiots that will not get the message in the movie, but it is explained at the end, God gave man a second chance to live better and for God not for themselves, He did it out of love, also Noah explains why God flooded the Earth is because, water purifies and only the strong survive. Some of the story is Hollywood bullshit but it does not take away the main plot of it all. The rock monsters are angels that are punished for leaving heaven to save man after Adam and Eve were cast out of Eden. When you watch the movie, you seriously see how cruel and evil man can become. Makes you wonder where are we going now. In a nutshell, the world is shitty, few good people left (Noah and is family), Angels help Noah and in the end are forgiven for their betrayal by simply asking for forgiveness upon death (New Testimant spoilers!), bad guys lose, Noah starts it all over, man is given a second chance. Yay! If you are Christian, see the movie with an open mind and know that God can do anything so why not send angels to help us? Also, all records of the days before the flood are lost so God only knows what REALLY happened. Go, enjoy the movie, remember the lesson and have fun. God praises man's Art, and a movie is a piece of Art. so enjoy it! I certainly did!

      Masterofmind999 I completely agree with you. Noah (from all the reviews I've read) is nowhere near a "religious movie". Sure, it might have some religious historical context, but to call this movie a "religious movie" is far from an over-generalization. It's like calling "Pulp Fiction" an introspective look into modern american society and culture. Personally, I'll admit I wasn't the biggest fan when I heard Araonfsky was making this film but now that's it out and it's getting some very positive reviews I think I may have to stop by my local theater and check it out.

    not biblically accurate..... hmmm....
    the bible is filled of symbolism right?
    so we might say an equivalent of Greek Mythology?
    (even though many myths have been proved to actually depict real things or sometimes even real historical events, their symbolic reference remains to be just that, symbolic.....)
    Moving on...
    We have another film for my whole point to be made.
    300, which was NOT based on Greek Mythology but ACTUAL Greek History, or in fact, based on a graphic novel which was based on Greek History.... Hence, the source material was actual events, not symbolism...........
    Question- Did you see everybody (especially every Greek on the planet) bitch about 300 being historically inaccurate? Which by the way had more reason to be accurate than Noah did? No, we enjoyed the damn film cause it was awesome.
    Frank Miller created his own symbolism and graphic novel representation on historical events and changed a lot of things around, and it still worked as a film.
    So why can't something like that work for Noah? Which was symbolic mostly to begin with?
    Point being? Chillax people. Chillax and try to enjoy some pleasures in your life. Half of you complaining sound like you are still in the Dark Ages.
    I almost expected to see someone call out BLASPHEMY in here. Just, chillax!

      Digital Creative Front A film adaptation should at least make the character somewhat like the original and have some of the same themes, does this movie do that? No it is a shit film because it gets the stories themes wrong and does a HORRIBLE job at portraying the characters. The creators of the film call this portrayal of Moses some kind of magi, I'm thinking, what do magi have to do with the story of the ark, nothing and that's the problem, if you stray too far from the source material, then your no longer making a adaptation, your making a different film entirely. And if you do, then DON'T CALL THE MOVIE NOAH ANYMORE. Honestly if this movie was just Called by a different name and didn't outwardly portray itself as a biblical adaptation, no one would be able to tell the difference. In fact this movie advertising fools christians into seeing it because it doesn't show the rock people, nor does it show any of the scenes which badly portray the characters. So this movie was just a horrible and shit film adaptation that didn't need to be an adaptation in the first place.

      The original story isnt even realistic to begin with, so I like this version more because it is presented more as a fantastical story with more interesting things happening.
      Even if you're a christian or not, you can still enjoy it for what it is.
      Im an atheist and I liked it, Darren Aronovsky is a great director.

    It would be funny if on the cases of movies they said "Has a Jahns rating of 'BUY IT ON BLU RAY'!" Except the person who buys it on DVD will look down and walk away depressed. Just my random thought...

    If someone wants to make a movie where there's a flood, and a war happens, fine. You can make that movie. But if someone makes a movie based on something historic, religious or otherwise, you have to keep to the main morals of it.
    Noah changes it from saving humanity to that they are to be the last people on Earth which is complete defiance of the original story.
    Basically that's the equivalent of taking a story but removing or changing the main point of them. The main point of the story was never that Noah made the Ark or survived the flood, the main point was that because Humanity was corrupt God was going to start over with the most pure people on Earth.
    I see comments saying that it was boring and this made it interesting. Well that depends on your perspective of boring. From what I see a lot of the original Noah story that DID match up in this could have held its own regardless. And even if it were boring, the story is meant to teach not entertain. A lot of people find reading about World War 2 boring, and others find it incredibly interesting. You don't need to destroy the plot to fix that.
    And to those saying "But it's not true so they can change it" well I can go on and on debating whether it's true or not but regardless it's still something that does and will offend a culture and if you can avoid doing that you should.
    They didn't NEED to change the story, they didn't NEED to change the morals. But that's how Hollywood works.
    As for children learning this in Sunday School I agree they probably won't, but they'll still find out about it. That is certain. And many WILL consider this to be the true story. The next generation of Christians thinking that God wanted to wipe out all life and just leave the animals and that we're just an accident. That's wrong.
    As I stated at the beginning, if you want to make a movie about a flood, war, and some other aspects feel free. It can even seem ALMOST like Noah, but don't call it, or compare it to Noah because that's not what this is.

      Don't you get it? In the film, it shows that Noah was wrong about them being the last humans. As he blessed his family and told them to go and multiply, God sent the rainbows to show that He was happy. The rain also stopped when Ila announced her pregnancy. They made it very clear that it was not God's plan to wipe everything out, just that Noah misunderstood.

      why do you have to keep the main morals to it? Embellishment makes every bad story a good one.

    • @TrisStrudel
      @TrisStrudel 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Zack NightShade That's still changing the story. Noah never thought everyone including his family should die.

    • @TrisStrudel
      @TrisStrudel 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ramathorn No it really doesn't. Certain embellishment can, but it's not an instant win. And I want to keep the main morals because that's how they were meant to be interpreted, not how we want them too for story excitement.

    • @SoYoureALiar
      @SoYoureALiar 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      TakTheFox While there is no mention of this in the Bible, it doesn't change the overall story. The fact is we will never really know for sure what Noah had to to deal with. He was probably scared, confused but wanted to follow what God said. The film shows him as a human being trying to stay devoted to God but not knowing what God is asking of him. In the end, Noah's inner turmoil is resolved and it is shown that God's true plan was never to completely destroy humanity anyways. The film is a narrative of how it MAY have happened, not how it did. It's an interpretation.

    I liked the movie, but the only thing that kind of put me off (and this is not a criticism to the movie or to Russell Crowe) is that Noah was HUGE. I always pictured him like a scraggly old man with a huge task ahead of him. Russell Crowe was huge, big beard, shaven head. He looked like he could build that ark single handedly and then beat the animals into submission if need be.

      How does that make them any less ridiculous? It's a contrivance he created for his writing and movie. The original mention in the texts didn't describe them or go into any detail so the whole thing is what he made up to make his story more interesting to him. And they looked exactly like Transformers.

    This movie might actually be good, but I just can't separate it from the fact that there are people out there who think it's a documentary. And a happy story you teach to children. Genocide is not a happy ending. Sorry, can't support that shit in any form.

    • @LordDemosair
      @LordDemosair 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well almost all the stories we tell our kids is violent in some form or another.
      In Red Riding Hood the wolf eats Granny and Red Riding Hood then a lumberjack cuts open the wolf to save her, the original is even worse, where no one comes to save them and the wolf just eats them both.. the end. In Cinderella her ugly sisters were cutting pieces of their own feet off to try and fit into the slipper. Little Mermaid, where she couldn't speak but she could dance beautifully, though if she did it felt like swords being driven through her feet; only for her love to marry someone else and she ended up committing suicide and her body dissolving into foam.
      Our story tales were more cautionary tales for children back in the day.

    • @CampingforCool41
      @CampingforCool41 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      ***** Sure, but we don't teach those stories to kids as if they actually happened. I'm actually surprised they still tell this story often because basically it's saying God is a maniac that murdered the entire planet, including all the animals who had done nothing wrong. It's quite amazing to me that people don't see anything wrong with this.

    • @LordDemosair
      @LordDemosair 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      CampingforCool41 Actually if you pay close enough attention (and read it in Greece, that always helps), you'll notice that "people were evil" wasn't the only reason God did what he did.
      After God banished the Angels from Heaven, they began procreating with humans, creating a race called the Nephilim, or Gigantus in the Greek. If they were allowed to "corrupt" all of human kind, then Christ would never be able to come and save humanity, as Christ had to become human. In another sense, you could say the Nephilim were partly spiritual beings in the physical realm, so God could never be completely physical (in the form of Christ), in order to sacrifice himself.
      In Genesis, Noah is described as being a good and holy man, perfect in God's eyes, but in Greek, the translation it closer to "unblemished", as in, "without corruption".
      Noah was chosen not just because he was a good man, but because he wasn't corrupted by the Nephilim, because he was fully human.

    • @CampingforCool41
      @CampingforCool41 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      *****
      Okay, so even if that is a better interpretation, it still doesn't explain why he had to kill almost all the animals....and was Noah and his family really the only ones without angel blood or nephilim in them? And even if he was, it's nonsense that he has to flood and kill everything in agony rather than just snapping a finger and getting rid of them. I can't quite tell if you actually believe the story, but that interpretation still wouldn't change God's image into something good. It seems to me that God simply enjoys playing Sims with his creation, even though he apparently knows every single outcome.

    • @LordDemosair
      @LordDemosair 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      CampingforCool41 I doubt Noah and his family were the only ones, though only being a few generations from Adam and Eve, there wouldn't have been many other people around. I have a few ideas on how to rationalise God's seemingly rash actions.
      It could be possible that God doesn't like using his power to directly influence his creation i.e. snapping his fingers and making it go away. Natural phenomena could be tools of control which he is more comfortable. He could have instantly destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah but instead were destroyed in a "fire from heaven", easily explainable as a meteor shower.
      It could also be that God uses these extremes to send a message to the reader "don't do evil or you'll meet justice", this message may not have been felt as strongly if God had just plucked them from the Earth. When God uses a natural disaster it preys upon man's natural fears of drowning, fire etc.
      God's "hand's off approach" could explain the existence of evolution through natural selection, as it too is a natural phenomenon and could be a tool used by God to create life.
