      Listen, I can't help but feel infuriated by your uninformed and misguided statements. It's astounding how you manage to be so completely wrong about this topic. Your ignorance is not only frustrating but also a disservice to anyone seeking accurate information. Instead of spouting off baseless claims, perhaps you should take the time to educate yourself properly before spreading misinformation. It's people like you who contribute to the erosion of rational discourse. I suggest you reconsider your stance and approach this topic with some much-needed humility and intellectual rigor.

    The 3rd act “play” sequence was, I think, the most important part of the film. It provides the closest approximation of how Beau actually thinks without the anxiety and the trauma of his conscious mind we see in the rest of the film. It’s essentially a dream within one 3 hour nightmare. And without it, as Melon said, the movie would be SO dark and traumatic and extreme that it would not be tolerable. It’s a brief moment of beauty in what is otherwise a hell scape.

    • @MartialMovieManC
      @MartialMovieManC ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I thought it was decent (it had the funniest line of the movie, in my opinion), but the part that confused me was the character that interrupts/disrupts it, I thought, was done for the rest of the movie, based on what I saw. I don’t know if that’s a plot hole, or I missed something, but that was my main gripe with it.

    • @bencarlson4300

      SPOILER (for anyone who hasn’t seen it) -
      OK, maybe “disrupt” was the better word here, but doesn’t Jeeves come in and shoot up the traveling theater, only to fall on his gun and get shot multiple times? So how did he show back up at the end in the attic with the “you-know-what?” Again, maybe I remembered it incorrectly, but if not that was the part I was talking about.

    • @anerdiguess1029
      @anerdiguess1029 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      The play sequence is my favorite bit of the film for this reason, as it also shows us the person Beau could’ve been and the things that he wanted out of life. Figuring out that he did want a normal life and a family is a very upsetting revelation as we know he is far past his prime to get those things, but still watching him get wrapped up in this fantasy just to lose it all is just another hardship Beau must face in a life with profound lows

    (Spoiler alert) One my favourite movies of all time. I am surprised that Anthony did not talk about the (perhaps unintentional) parallels with 1982's The Wall. Overbearing mother, the death of his father, being constantly drugged and numb, the animations, the giant p*enis, the trial - hell, even the masks that some of the characters wear in the theather part are very reminiscent of the school kids in "Another Brick in the Wall".

    There is something really fascinating about the theatre troupe thing to me, I feel like it functions as a key to understanding the movie. Aster has described the movie as a "Picaresque" and has said that he was inspired by early literature that follows on that structure. The wandering theatre troupe isn't a common movie trope, but it is a common literature trope. Usually the main character wanders into the theatre troupe and the theatre troupe acts a s a sort of catalyst for emotional development for the main character, specifically opening the character up emotionally. I don't fully know what it means, but the fact that it's used all the time in a particular type of literary genre means that we are supposed to at least use that context somehow.

Even though is a lengthy and often times exhausting film i wouldn't take away any part of it because i think every part plays a role in putting the viewer inside the anxiety-ridden mind of Beau and also it's all such a mind-bending, hilarious, colorful, sinister and terrifying experience that it wouldn't be complete without all the batshit crazy insane detours and twists of the narrative. Truly a one of a kind movie going experience and a film that i'm glad exists even if it wasn't a box office success at all.
    Also, Fantano letterboxd when??

    I'm so glad you spoke about this film. I found this to be a masterpiece on the corruption narcissism can have on a person's life, as well as a non flinching display of a life that has been waisted. I found it to be so god damn sad by the end, even though the final scene is so absolutely over the top and out there - I still couldn't help but feel such an immense pain for this character. I've seen people become entangled by the narcissism of others, and the end plays this out in full swing... tragic.
    I also love the third sequence, the blending of film, theater, music, and poetry. It's an absolutely beautiful piece of art in its own right and acts as the perfect 'eye of the duck' scene for the film. Truly fantastic stuff.

    I patiently waited for this since it was announced as his next film and even read the original script and still wasn’t prepared for what I saw. Whether it’s your cup of tea or you hated it, this is what cinema is about. I’ve rewatched it 3 times since it was released on demand and still have so much digesting to do. Very rarely do we get something like this nowadays with many movies feeling like redundant cash grabs that aim to appeal to the masses. It was recently announced that Ari’s next film will probably be a western noir dark comedy, I’m beyond thankful there’s people like him bringing originality back to world of cinema.

    I like how melon have a purple light thing going on, if you take a look into his channel, I think he deliberately "make scenes", like when he reiviews album he always sits next to the shelf, on fantano channel he stand in the room, he is essentially creating iconic scenes, which is pretty much his "branding", which I believe is crucial to his success

  • @123rockfan

    interesting point abt beau is that his mom's monologue about him not being able to decide for himself is a nod to the viewers themselves. beau is our perspective throughout the film and i can't help but feel like the mom's monologue is ari aster telling us to decide for ourselves what the film means to us instead of relying on an objective interpretation that relies on the opinions of others. if this is intentional ari aster is a genius.
