How to Paint White Scars WITHOUT an Airbrush

Welcome to the next video in the @thearmypainter series! Today I'm bringing you a White Scars Tutorial.
This is a really simple tutorial that took around 90 minutes in total to achieve,. We all want good results but are often time poor so here is one for you guys! This also DOES NOT use an airbrush so if you want to do White Scars but most of the tutorials you've seen use an airbrush then this one is also for you!

For smother transitions even more like airbrush use makeup sponges, they are softer, more delicate texture than regular kitchen sponges and have much smaller "bubbles" which help to get softer, more gradual transitions.
Nail decorators use them to get smooth transitions between colours with jaw dropping effect and efficency.

This might be my favourite tutorial from you (and I rate all your tutorials extremely high). Next army project I'll try sponging + oils for sure!
One improvement suggestion though. Have you considered listing the paints used in the video tutorial somewhere? Video description/beginning/end. Sometimes it's a bit arduous to find the specific point in the video where you mention the paint that you're using.
If you’re doing a batch I’d recommend reverse action tweezers for the smaller piece of sponge, ie ones you squeeze to open. Your hands will thank me for it 😂

top tip for sponge painting and chipping, when using a kitchen sponge, check its not the last one in the cupboard or your wife may kill you :)

I was really considering going scars for heresy so this comes really in handy
This is a cool technique, when I've done this I start with the smaller sponge first to get into tight spots.
That way when its time for the big sponge on all the outer areas, it will cover up any sort of scrape or slide marks the small sponge made trying to squeeze into the cracks.

Lovely video! I would love to see a video where you would do an tank on an scheme of like your ultramarines done with speedpaints/contrast and even sponge, without using an airbrush. It would be interesting video, since I find doing an similar scheme to tanks while using contrast or speedpaints to be awfully difficult without an airbrush.

Did you varnish it before the oil wash? Then it’s white spirit to take it off with the cotton buds? Then varnish again after? Thanks for the great tutorial - love you models and has inspired me to get a jet bike (or rather a few…)

Great video! I have been desperately trying to find a way that I can do my Scars army without an airbrush and I think this method is great! But just would like to check, as I have never done sponging before. With these air paints, do you take paint off with a kitchen towel before applying to the model or do you go straight onto the model?
