I think I finally understand what chaos really is in the context of 40k. Like chaos in it's normal state is like a pin ball going all haywire inside of the pin ball machine hitting and colliding with the walls and maze like obstructions inside of said machine making all kind of noises and a light show. It's entertaining and interesting to watch. Another analogy could be diffusion of potassium permanganate in water or bromine in air. On the molecular and atomic level in the case of bromine all the molecules and atoms are moving haphazardly and spontaneous in the fluid medium in order to take up space. Even Radioactive decay is a practical use of chaos due to definition of what half life is and how nuclear fission works.
Now in 40k, chaos is just a bastardization of the very concept of chaos itself. It's like if a group of hooligans go into said bar just to destroy the pin ball machine, then beat as much people in the bar and if they fail summon some demons to slaughter the entire town for no reason.
Then the imperium is a "solution" to chaos but it's akin to sawing of your arms after a jellyfish sting instead of applying anti venom to the wound or any proper medical treatment besides sawing going vrrrr.

    • @reikowallach2465
      @reikowallach2465 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

You're on to something. 'Chaos' in Warhammer is lifted from Michael Moorcock's fiction, the difference being that in Moorcock there's always Law to counterbalance Chaos, but never actually defeat it since they both need eachother in the end.
Warhammer - being 'grimdark' - left the Law part out, but clearly there is a sort of 'Law shaped hole' in the lore, and it's natural that The Imperium is molded by that shape in some ways.

I've always differentiated between favourite Primarchs and favourite Legions, and further by favourite Legions by lore, colouration, and gameplay. Jaghatai has always been my favourite loyalist Primarch, and the White Scars my favourite loyalist legion in the lore(Space Mongols were cool long before Chris Wraight). But I could never paint white worth a shit, and I was never particularly fond of the bike models(or the jetbikes, when they came out), so I never built an army.

  • @guyver441

The Khan is one of the best examples of specialized tactics for Astartes. The legions were designed to function as a united fighting force, whether on the same battlefield or spread out in separate theatres.
While most legions try to "out melee flex" each other with chainsword measuring, the White Scars have a unique usefulness in maneuvers.

Great rundown- Jakhatai Khan is a beast!
I dont agree that fulgrim was such an ineffective traitor primarch at all though.
he is one of the traitors that’s had the biggest impact on the setting - first he deleted Ferrus Manus and later he mortally wounded guilliman who was knocked out of commission for 10.000 years by fulgrim.
One can only imagine what the empire would be like if guilliman had been active for 10.000 years until now. The empire would likely had been a lot more efficient.
Compare Fulgrims feats with angron’s or Konrad’s who both did fuck all in comparison.

That part about the difficulty of painting his legion hits hard. Holy crap is it a migraine to work with certain tones of white and make it look good.

As a man who is attempting to design an alien race based off the Mongols, I can say with confidence I don't find the Mongolians uninteresting. "Knights are cooler than Mongolians" I hear you say? The medieval knights didn't carve out the second largest empire in history. (I don't hate knights, I love knights, I'm just saying.)

Vulkan and Khan would be really great buds. Not only because of their concern for humanity but because of Khan's sick burns being a metaphorical flamer weapon.

  • @fedupN

Part of the issue he is overlooked is because the White Scars WERE shallow and only "Mongols in Space" for so long. There simply wasn't much ABOUT THEM. They were AT the Siege of Terra...and that was about it.
Then came Chris Wraight. Scars and the Path of Heaven single handedly gave them character and elevated the Khan to his glorious status.
It even took the meta narrative, them being forgotten, and turned into a plot point. They were the consummate outsiders by choice, following their own path. Seeing the Imperium as A path, but not THE path, and even being EMBARASSED that they (who practiced poetry, music, art and other cultural pursuits) were compared to Russ' dumbass puppies.
They even mention the multiple nations the Khan had conquered...but not ELIMINATED. That was key.
The Khan and his Legion never wanted to STAGNATE, always pushing on to the next horizon.
    Freaking cool.
Annndd as Majorkill mentioned, fairly level headed. Even with warpcraft. Basically BE SUPER FREAKING CAUTIOUS WITH IT.

If I ever did a 40k story, I would have to bring the great Kahn into it. He is my favorite loyalist even above Dorn. I just love his entire aesthetic.
He is great and has my vote to come back next in the lore.

Orks fighting Jaghatai is like fighting a plainsclothe Swadian or a Khergit with a Hafted Blade or the greatsword in M&B multiplayer, he's too fast and too lethal, Orks wanna play Chiv 2 where it's all just chaotic combat with some skill involved.
