@@GameTechTalk Apart from the quirks, there's also the form factor. The X3 looks like a beefy X2. A lot of people have described the g8 like a regular Xbox controller but with a space in the middle for the phone. I want that... But with a cooler. XD

Fair, I hope they don't take too long for a v2 but I can understand some people wanting to sit it out until there is at least more feature parity with some of the newer options.
That they have, that's why I am happy to buy another one even, 8BitDo is a brand I trust and truthfully, the sheer amount of "stress test" from me trying to pry it open speaks to the level of quality. I was really impressed.
I had one in my basket for a while but I realized that the controller had been out for a while, I felt as though my time to talk about it might have passed. I might revisit if ever I can find myself in a place where I no longer have a month-long production timeline set in!
In a different video I commented that a "nice" D-Pad for you (Easysmx M05) probably was good for old fighting games, slow paced ones. But not suitable for fast modern fighting games like Dragon Ball Fighterz, KoF XV, SF6 or even Marvel vs Cap 3, where you need to pull combos super fast, and the movements have changed in the past 30 years since Street Fighter 2. I've tested the M05, X2pro, X2s, Galileo G8 and I am still looking for a suitable fighting D-pad in a small telescopic controller. I do get why you gave a good ranking to the M05, but I am trying to tell you that testing these D-pads with a 30 year old game is not a proof of how they will perform with modern games. I hope you can test them with more recent and faster games. All of these controllers do actually work really well for anything else but fighting games. Even a retro handheld like RG35xxH has a way better D-Pad for that purpose (faster fighting games) than all of the ones I have tested so far. Is this 8bitdo telescopic controller D-pad similar to the SN30 pro or the SN30 Pro 2...? (still have the first one, I sold the second one). I do wanna try the SMX M10 Dpad... a huge issue for us that we live in places where all of these controllers are imports... not cheap, not easy and hard to find stores where to get them. I hope you reconsider your testing methodology choosing modern games like Celeste, SF6, KoF XV, Cuphead, Shadow of the NInja Reborn or any modern 2D game that require faster and more precise inputs. Thanks and keep up the good work man... so nice that you were the first one reviewing this, I was waiting for this video.
You make a compelling argument. I need to find a solution that I can bring everywhere as sometimes I test on Apple, sometimes on Android, sometimes on a handheld PC. This looks like it was designed to a tee to fit your standard generic 6 inch screen android phone, it looks so flush. That is kind of a selling point in itself.
I dont necessarily like their approach. I feel like 8bitdo is kinda becoming lazy because gamesir has also made a name for themselves particularly in the mobile gaming controller market and they give you the option to go Xinput mode, PS Spoof and Native Switch support on their latest Bluetooth telescopic controller. I would probably get an 8bitdo one if they added Xinput and made it in the style of the pro line instead of the ultimate line BUT the truth of the matter is I already forked over an arm and a leg for the backbone one gen 2 about a year ago and aside from the asymmetric sticks im pretty happy with it
Having just one would have greatly improved compatibility, especially with iOS now supporting more controllers. If they had just given us one spoofed mode, you'd have support on Android and iOS and possibly more. I can appreciate what they brought out but I totally understand your stance, it feels like such a missed opportunity that it's difficult to not feel like wanting them to have done just a smidge more as that would've made this controller that much more appealing.
There needs to be a switch version that is either usb c port compatabile or bluetooth compatible with gyro, and rumble. Or hell, dedicated joycon even!
it is worth it, for 50 bucks, the only minus is that controller is bluetooth, if it has good charge, no problem, but if battery is small, it gonna be a problem, triggers and shoulder buttons are great, buttons and sticks are very good on paper, the dpad is good, but would be cool if it had the circle dpad as an option, better compatability with pc and it is going to one of the best controller, gamesir g8+ is still the best, it is the same thing, but just better, cuz of this it is more expensive than 8bitdo, kinda fair
Their listing claims up to 15 hours on the battery that they have, I haven't put it through this much stress but for what I have, the claim seem pretty reliable. With that said, they have a lot less features than some of these other controllers, no RGB, no gyro, no rumble, not as high polling, no "twice bluetooth" signals, etc
@@GameTechTalk no RGB, no gyro, no rumble is to cut costs for sure, if it had this things it would be another not worth the attention 70 bucks controller, bc there is plenty of them, but they made a controller for guys that are only going into that world and dont want something expensive and from a company they havent heard from, 8bitdo is well known for sn30, sn30 pro and their ultimate controller, seems like a trustful company to me, eh? while they could make the best controller out there, i respect them going for lower class, giving guys an option of buying, giving basic but good stuff, they could have made it bigger tho, only 170 cm, it is not going to fit some phones, let alone small tablets.....
It does but because it is not modern protocols, you should expect that not every game will work, unless you use a translation layer such as Steam Input or many software that can translate as well such as ViGem.

Are there ANY telescopic controllers that you can put your phone into vertically? So I can use for DS emulation/split apps and horizontal for everything else
Yes and no. The G8Plus, the BSPs is what you're looking for. However, a phone is too narrow in portrait so you need to have packing foam or something so that the contraption tightens on the phone. With that, you'll get the result you're looking for.
@GameTechTalk Appreciate the reply! Tried it, not my thing. Have you heard of the FLYDIGI Wee2T? It's a telescopic Bluetooth controller that came out a few years back that offered portrait and landscape use. I just dig the smaller footprint and functionality. If its been done before it can be done again! Check out their telescopic design, it allows for a wide range of devices while being compact in its non stretched state. More moving parts but yeah more companies should look into this design! Thanks for being so comprehensive in your reviews.
I use my Pro 2 controller on iOS, and love it; I don’t get why they released this controller without iOS support, as they obviously have it on other controllers 🤔
I keep asking myself the same question. That's why I think their success is what is at cause. Having MFi certified products in their range, they might have contractually locked themselves into a deal that prevents them from "circumventing" Apple's "security" measures. A contract that include: "You do this, we sue you." kind of ordeal. It's very common in the western world's corporate approach.
😂😂 That's what I get for eating while reading comments, you made me choke from sudden laughing! There's a few reasons why it's not my favorite d-pad but they do soften the corners a bit, that said, I do still find them too sharp for my taste. Still, there is definitely worst (looking at your X2 controllers).
Yes and yes! I've tempered my expectations with this one, I ended up pre-ordering the white one too but indeed, that one is not here to dethrone the leading product but rather, set its foundations. I'm here for it!
like the other comments, i also think the g8 plus outclasses this controller in every way. (maybe except for the dpad, not a fan of the dpad on the g8 plus)
i wished 8bitdo would have made a 'lite' gamepad optimised for retro and 2d games with their premium d-pad because most mobile controller have shit d-pads. for me that’s a miss.
You could, if very motivated, put a USB-C 90 degree connector into your phone and run a wire from the controller to the connector. It works fine but it's a bit funky looking.
Oh my bad, sometimes I respond and forget to hit reply, I have a 100 tabs opened! 😅 It's not as good, that's first. Second, the bluetooth settings don't seem to have that feature on Flydigi, so you need to be wired. I'll be honest, I didn't spend 30mins looking, I've got a lot on my plate but one thing for sure. The gyro feature on Flydigi is simply not on-par with the equivalent with BIGBIG WON.
@GameTechTalk yes i got the controller now and i totally agree it works in warzone mobile but kinda finicky when talking to horizontal gyro specifically thank you brother!
So.... only works with Android and that's pretty much it. Well, that's completely pointless and makes this thing DOA when there's competition out there. Pretty sad. I expected better from 8BitDo honestly.
If I made an educated guess, they could be talking with Apple to have a dedicated MFi version? Honestly, considering that very few controllers are MFi certified, and that I am pretty sure 8BitDo did have MFi certified products in their collection (I could be wrong), that controller would stand out way more on that side of the mobile market than it does on Android. Let's hope it happens down the road!
It is but the controller protocol is also Neptune, which is very important not to forget. Also, Valve introduces its own drivers which can increase/decrease support for certain controllers.
The price, the quality, the ergonomics are overall the positives. That said, there are some quirks to counter that balance too. I like it, still I understand that some people experience some disappointment with it.
I have the backbone controller and realized something. I always thought a controller with it's own battery was a good thing but now I see I was wrong. Any phone controller that uses the phone's port to give it power is actually better than something like this 8bitdo. The controller barely uses any power so you don't even notice it draining the phone from my experience. So this 8bitdo having a dedicated battery, and not a dedicated connection, is actually a bad thing. You'll have to remember to keep it charged just so you can use it. So unless your phone has a weird spot for it's charging port, I see no reason to buy this over something like the backbone. Your thoughts?
I agree that the power that controllers draws in general are negligible enough to not have concerns over battery of your phone/tablet. With that said, as much as your point as validity, it is taking one aspect into a vacuum and seeing it as the sole defining factor of the overall experience. Your Backbone One will not work with every case (even gen2), this will. Your Backbone will not work the moment you wish to sit your phone down on a stand, this will continue to operate your phone. All the same, as long as you keep the bluetooth controller charged, it is no more of a hassle than keeping your phone charged and a magnetic connector with a magnetic cable can make this charging endeavor one that is extremely easy to keep up with. It's all a question of what are your priorities and what work best for you and if it is a wired controller, I can respect that. I still think the bluetooth solutions also have a lot of appeal for the right person.
I am happy 8BITDO finally came out with an official telescopic controller, however I think that the G8 Plus edges this controller out.

8bitdo should look into tablet controller that support up to 13inch max since only ones that support is iPega, & Gamesir modded version…
I'd love to see that from them!
Does it work with the pixel 8 pro with case on it?
Yeah, you'll have about half a centimeter of clearance still.
This work in iPhone ?
Sadly, it does not.
Jesus that D-pad looks like it could cut my thumb if I tried doing a Dragon Punch. How protruding and sharp do they want it to be?
😂😂 That's what I get for eating while reading comments, you made me choke from sudden laughing! There's a few reasons why it's not my favorite d-pad but they do soften the corners a bit, that said, I do still find them too sharp for my taste. Still, there is definitely worst (looking at your X2 controllers).
Are there other version for nintendo switch ?
Of these types of controllers? Yes. But from 8BitDo specifically that can stretch like this, no. In fact, it's their first one ever!
Seems like a good controller. G8/G8+ seems to still be king
Yes and yes! I've tempered my expectations with this one, I ended up pre-ordering the white one too but indeed, that one is not here to dethrone the leading product but rather, set its foundations. I'm here for it!
Thank you
Im bummed out this controller doesn't have a headphone jack. I've seen other controllers do
I can't think of a bluetooth one that does mind you but wired controllers with a 3.5mm hack? Yes there are plenty!
like the other comments, i also think the g8 plus outclasses this controller in every way. (maybe except for the dpad, not a fan of the dpad on the g8 plus)
my fave dpad will always be the playstation's.
I can effectively say that the d-pad on the 8BitDo is better than the G8s, though not by much to be honest.
i wished 8bitdo would have made a 'lite' gamepad optimised for retro and 2d games with their premium d-pad because most mobile controller have shit d-pads. for me that’s a miss.
That would've been a very clever way to stand out in the telescopic space. Come to think of it, I think I would've liked that too!
It's biggest issue is Bluetooth only.
You could, if very motivated, put a USB-C 90 degree connector into your phone and run a wire from the controller to the connector. It works fine but it's a bit funky looking.
Nice!
Very!
no support for ios?! especially in this era where emulators has been accessible than ever before.
This controller would've been amazing for some vertical DS on iPhone/iPad Mini. Oh well, let's hope for next time!
Bro u havent answer me last time 😭😭😭 I was asking if vader 4 pro gyro works like big big won gyro in warzone mobile
@GameTechTalk yes i got the controller now and i totally agree it works in warzone mobile but kinda finicky when talking to horizontal gyro specifically thank you brother!
meh...expected better from 8bitdo
Galileo G8 still reigns supreme in that price range
GameSir is really marking its territory, brilliantly I might add!
So.... only works with Android and that's pretty much it.
Gamesir G8 Plus > Telescopic's 8BitDo
Can't argue that one.
Lol I bought it but in don't know when I gonna get it
They ship on November 29th I believe.
@GameTechTalk thanks for the info
My wallet . Where are you, here buddy.... Come to papa,😊
I thought I was the only one that called my controllers my "childrens"! 😂
Steam desk is Arch Linux
It is but the controller protocol is also Neptune, which is very important not to forget. Also, Valve introduces its own drivers which can increase/decrease support for certain controllers.
Not bad tbh for 50 USD
The price, the quality, the ergonomics are overall the positives. That said, there are some quirks to counter that balance too. I like it, still I understand that some people experience some disappointment with it.
Boooo 8bitdo
😱
@pepito69 They can do better
If they started with the product as a stepping stone, I have no problems with. I just hope that's not a one-off, that would be sad.
8bitdoodoo butter.
