- 8Bitdo is back at it with another version of the Ultimate series of controller that is somehow better than the Ultimate despite the lower price. It sacrifices a few features though so let's have a look and see which one is better.

probably you are the only tech reviewer that explain how the programmable button works... I have been looking everywhere and none even trying to experiment with how that works without software... thanks alot
How do you program them? I tried to watch slowly but dont get it.
@@nessnake123 You hold either L4 or R4, then hold the button you want it to be mapped (X,Y,A,B,L1,L2,L2, etc) then finally you press the mapping button which is below the minus (or select) button.
@@cypher4528 thank you im gonna try
hey nihongo, i just remembered you existed and man is it good to know that you're still up and running after all these years. i've been a subscriber since 2014, and i loved all your vids from coffee, drawing, reviews, japanese lessons, vlogs, and everything else. keep on keeping on man
Really appreciate it thanks!!
No one tests D-Pads to the extent that you do, that's what I like the most about your reviews! I'll consider getting this controller.
I have it, very satisfying
@@somedude6420 it's statisfying but needs very precise inputs, cant get the hang of it even after a week
I dont need a new controller or arcade stick but i always watch ur videos cuz they are so relaxing. Love you man keep doing what u love🙏
been rocking it for 2 weeks now and I just love how it looks, hall effect joysticks feel really good, dpad is fast and clicky, really helpful to me recently playing mvc2
Does it have gyro? And given it's not Switch native, I'm guessing it's got analog triggers?
@@user-s8jb3qb6y it has analog triggers, these have hall effect sensors too, it doesn't have gyro tho
@AngeloT2001 the 2c has both hall effect triggers and joysticks according to their website
I actually got this from a giveaway and compared to the ultimate controller, it does has some benefits. The feeling of the dpad is like if you take one of those metal Snapple caps that has the bump in the middle, and you press it and it makes that click sound. Take that cap and make it smaller and that's the same clicky feel that the dpads have. Stick neck being some sort of metal is a huge plus as it precents the rings from chiseling it and it feels smooth. 8Bitdo could learn from this and implement the features in the 2C and put it into their ultimate 2 controller. In addition the triggers have a satisfying xbox like padding when fully pressing it comparted to the ultimate.
the metal stem for the joysticks seems to be a normal thing with hall effect joysticks
Love that you’re testing the dpad for fighting games since I was considering getting one especially for that reason. Thanks for the video 🙏🏻
Cross is stiff, other than that no complaints. After a week or so of use it will be PRIME.
nice! im tempted to buy it, even when im not a fan of asymmetric sticks, i hope they launch a pro3 with this extra buttons and similar color 🙂
I want a Pro 3 as well but ultime 2C has hall effect joysticks and triggers
I prefer back paddles instead of the L4 and R4 buttons tho
One thing I've noticed with the d-pad is that if you are heavy handed (which I often am), it becomes a lot easier to accidentally press the diagonals. Like when I'm playing a tough platformer and really pressing hard on right, even the slightest deviation up will trigger that up as well. If I restrain myself and just press lightly, no issues.
got back to mkk11 after getting this, feels like im re-learning how to use a dpad, very frustrating
This controller looks so awesome i wanted to buy one as soon as you pulled it out of the box, but no console support is a deal breaker
What idea of you can buy adapters that allow to use any controller on a console do you not understand🤦🏽♂️ *"BUY THE adapter GENIUS"*
@@itzdcx He said you can buy an adapter for switch, that doesn't tell me if it works on playstation/xbox. And also buying a peripheral adapter so that i can buy a controller is peak consumerism. Why not just make a controller that isn't made specifically for phone os??? You act like i'm stupid, who tf makes a controller that natively supports android but not switch lol
@@itzdcxadaptor or not his got a point for non pc and android players and some people just don’t want to buy the controller and then an adaptor when there’s other controllers that are compatible with consoles out of the box
I wish that had a Charging Dock.
Is it possible to buy a charging dock seperately from 8bitdo? Or do you have to buy another controller that comes with it?
@SF_Zoom i asked 8bitdo's Customer service and they told me it wasn't compatible
gamesir cyclone 2 or ultimate 2c wukomg edition? in my country both has same price.
Thanks for the review bro. So i suppose the ultimate software support isn't that big of a deal because the R4 L4 buttons can already be remapped on the controller itself.
The software helps in updating the firmware, but i suppose it's an okay guess that the developers will include this Wukong version in the ultimate software in the future, yeah?
I would love if u can add Tekken 8 between the games you use to test the controllers 😊
Finally, a controller review by someone that actually seems to know how to play games.
best youtuber i got the controller it should arrive in the mail tomorrow 👍
thoughts on it 1 month later?
@njoguszn i like it more than the ultimate version
Nihongo gamer, I'm a long time watcher and I wanted to know if you could use this controller using an 8bitdo adapter 2 to connect it to the switch, excellent video as always I hope you have a nice day
I bought this one and Asura. Beitong Asura II Pro plus was 50 now 60 and i got it for $30 on Sale. Asura crushed this controller in all aspects. Even price(on a good day), mind blowing. I can compare Asura to Wolverine. This one... You get a bit more than you paid for.
Good thing i got the pro 2 with Hall effect. At least this time i didn't buy a product and some days later found that they launched a new one...that cost the same price or is even cheaper!!! 😂
its weird cuz i already have a solid controller with the Starfield edition of the xbox controller, but i'm pretty interested in the ultimate 2c, i like the extra shoulder buttons personally! i'm really debating whether or not i need it because the controller i got is pretty damn reliable and none of the games i play demand more than what i've got, i have genuinely no complaints, but this controller seems so nice i'm really considering it!
well its pretty cheap too. especially if u just go for a wired one. and it has hall effect joysticks and triggers
The post rate is amazing and the latency nearly non existant. I got it for 27 bucks and it blows my mind.
I just bought U2C in green (literally delivered today) I looked at the wukong one but I don't have the game and don't really care to play it so it seemed like a dumb idea to get the controller I just wish there was a normal just black one but other then that I'm loving the one I got it's just the plain 8bitdo Untimate 2 C wireless
I got the mint (wanted the green one but out of stock). Is there a difference between the wukong version and the normal version except for the looks?
@@SickandTiredofmyLife the price lol. wukong wired is priced the same as normal wireless, while the wukong wireless is $10 more
I like the ‘mapping-button’ but there are no profiles anymore? I also definitely prefer having back-buttons over these extra shoulder-buttons. And of course no charging dock is a big minus, therefore an easy pass for me.
This controller is half the price of the base Ultimate model; I'm guessing they wanted to just make a budget model.
Apparently there's a 2C version for the Switch now? I'll probably get it. 👀
Hall effect joysticks and triggers for that proce is crazy
Now let them cook new ultimate controller and new Pro 3 with hall effect triggers as well
When do we get the review of the Wolverine V3. I have V2 and its the best fighting game controller ever
10/10 value
There's one thing that a lot of TH-camrs either brush over or completely ignore, and that's why I won't buy the 8bitdo Ultimate and its variations: the built-in battery and how it's set up.
It's a soldered battery, which is different from something like the battery in a DS4 controller that you can "easily" unplug and swap out.
Once the battery in the 8bitdo Ultimate dies, you're pretty much left with a paperweight, and if it’s not really dead, you'll have to use a cord, which totally defeats the purpose of having a wireless controller. At least with the Xbox controller, you can use rechargeable AA batteries or rechargeable batteries that fit right in. Personally, I wouldn't recommend the 8bitdo Ultimate until(if) they sort this out.
Damn I was gonna get me one when it launches in the EU, but this makes me think about it again and confirms my worry’s about not seeing a battery tray. It would almost be perfect otherwise
I mean this whole controller costs almost the same as the Xbox battery kit so I can live with that
@@jordanplays-transitandgame1690 I totally get your point but I don't feel like that is an argument for it to suck in this way. If it's cheap it shouldn't include a locked-in battery - if its pricy well then I don't care
been waiting for this DPad review! Thanks Nihongo gamer!
man I use back buttons a lot wish they just go with it instead of another shoulder trigger button
What is the best fighting game on steam? I am going to only buy one fighting game and I want it to be great online competition, deep combat and fluid smooth gameplay, any real stand outs?
Tekken 8
Hi, i am a student and i don't have much money. I can afford 8bitdo or xbox controller (latest normal one) but i dont think i will have luxury to buy new gamepad in 2 years. For long term, which one do you recommend? I'm thinking to play cod, souls like, non online story driven and fifa games.
8bitdo if you want durability
Does the adapter that it comes with work on the switch? Or do I need to buy a separate adapter
Hey, did you have any luck updating the firmware? I cannot get the profiles page in the ultimate software to map the buttons. Thanks buddy
Some say the d-pad is a downgrade, you say it’s superior, I’m confused.
Personal preference probably; I prefer the 2C
I love this style of d pad much more than the previous 8bitdo style.
I have the Mint one, but the only disappointment I have with it is that it's not compatible on my iPad and there is no phone clamp to play on my Android phone.
I would be interested in the quality of the analog sticks and triggers. Are they Hall effect? Will they soften after a few months? Also how’s the wired experience? What port do they use? The usb micro on ds4 tends to break easily
this is using type c and the connection is tight fit and won't easily break as USB micro, I got the wired version as I do not want to face another battery issue with my previous controllers (my previous PS4 controller battery bloated)... not sure about longevity, but the built quality is really good and sturdy from the outside, the only downside I wish this has is a software to program the extra buttons rather than manual program which makes much easier for new user to use this controller; I had hard time looking around for tutorials, and even asking reddit users to explain how this programmable works. Anyway, it's a good controller for me overall and pricing is the main factor for getting this controller
XD ur channel is called 日本語, thanks for the review
One thing i don't like about this controller is that they don't want to make this controller software controllable...to see what polling rate and what battery % is and maybe do the remapping ...HOPE 8Bitdo see this comment and make a software for it
What kind of adapter did you mention that will work on nintendo switch? I am planning to buy the controlller and emailed 8bitdo support but they said it wont work on switch WITH 8bitdo wireless adapter 2
Does it work with the ultimate charging dock?
does the wukong edition have better grip than original c2? or other better feature
Is anyone having issues with the controller not working in games? I have it connected via Bluetooth and all the buttons work however once I get in game it's like the controller isn't connected. It will only work when plugged in. I haven't tried the 2.4 dongle yet so not sure if that would change anything
the only question I have is can you spam X and A button really fast with responsiveness , for that Hollow Knight Spam Attack
They can call it "ultimate" when it gets an genesis/saturn d-pad.
did you test the turbo function?
7:04 so which one is it, been a while or play a lot???
how to know it's charging?
what kind of battery does it have? 500 mAH? 1000? 2550?
Are we going to get an Ultimate 2?
How comfortable is it? I always worry especially with having big hands how "third party" controllers feel comparitvely to official controllers like DS4s and Xbox one.
it feels amazing. they say its a bit lighter than 1st party controllers so theres that. big hands shouldnt be an issue since its very comfortable. it could have a better dpad but its a really good controller tbh
This should work on ps5 💯
Why not both in one controller. So a true ultimate 2 controller. But they would need to update to haptic rumble motors.
This controller is half the price of the base Ultimate model; I'm guessing they wanted to just make a budget model. Also I'm not sure if XInput controllers support haptic rumble
We need an update bro 😭🙏🏾
hey can this gamepad take a screenshot, i wanna buy it, please help
Is ultimate 3-mode still worth it over this ?
does this have Bluetooth connectivity for Android?
yes
Can you dock that in the charging cradle?
No Series X comp?
I just saw from another youtuber that there is no software to control it so if you need to adjust dead zone or something else, you are stuck. Is this true, if yes probably just the ultimate would be better ?
I found a way. Press and hold + and - for 5secs it will eliminate deadzone
@@SickandTiredofmyLife Returned it and bought easysmx x10 and x15
does this work with vita3k android?
Is joystick any better than og ultimate
So .. conclusion is ..Not recommended?
does it work on ipad m4?
is it better than ultimate bt? why isnt it called ultimate 2?
ordered mine on 9/20... SITLL WAITING smh
Am I the only one who thinks that that monkey man looks silly?
How is this one is wireless..but on other videos with the same name they are wired?
Cause the ultimate 2c has a wired-only version and a wireless version.
@@gruiaolaru511 is the wired version good on the long run?
They have a wireless version and a cheaper wired version
Hey nihingo, I’ve been watching all your new Nintendo 3ds vids, and I wondered if you can make a video talking about if its worth it in 2024
Might be a dumb question but how can I turn off vibrations?
turn off vibration in the games setting? or use their 8bitdo ultimate software
i have a question, is it compatible with DS4 open source software or not ?
Yes its Work perfect for the ultimate
Does it work with steam deck?
can I use this with Ultimate dock?
No
I have a question - is this controller going to work well on PC? I hear it has bluetooth for android, but will it work on a computer too? Asking because from what I understand (I am new to these controllers) its dongle occupies 1 USB slot so if I have 4 set up, it will take up 4 USB slots from the machine. But if I use bluetooth it will work with 4 controllers without issue in theory?
im in the rabbit hole trying to find out if it works to, really want one but no bluetooth to windows is a poop.
@@SimplRyan Yeah it makes no sense to me though. Like how can you support Bluetooth for just Android and not Windows :O
This is xinput right?
I want to know that as well as it looks like directinput. But I want more limited xinput due to simplicity.
Does the Ultimate 2c have gyro?
No
@@krontoques thanks
After infinity is infinitwo obviously.
Does it have rumble?
I have ultimate c and the rumble is very good in fps games and returnal 😊

Do they work with Nintendo Switch?
I have a same question
@@ElJucahas im sure it doesn't . 2.4ghz for pc and BT for android only

1000 people review controllers and 1000 of them fail to mention basic things needed to know for someone who might be trying to get their first controller
1. what port the controller has micro usb, usb, type c, thunderbolt?
2. what is the dongle port? micro usb, usb, type c, thunderbolt?
3. rechargeable battery or replaceble battery or both?
Because anyone can google that in 0.5 seconds
1. Type C
2. Type A
3. Rechargeable (could be replaced if you need to eventually)
Thats literally something you first see in the item’s description on ecommerce sites
you're looking at it brother ffs.
Is this compatible with ps5?
