This will probably the last standard railfanning video of KCS I post. Everything I capture from here on out will be going into my “End of an Era” special. Thanks for watching and enjoy the weekend!
Bonner St. Bridge. Fond memories of watching trains from it as well as traversing the bridge from LCB and Tech. One time I did get caught, trying to walk back to class.
Amazing footage! I can't wait for your farewell to KCS video. We were thinking of doing something similar to highlight our past catches of KCS on CP up here in London, Ontario. It will be a bittersweet day, having grown up with CP Rail always in the background of my life; but I'm excited for what the future will also bring (as long as no one hurries to repaint those beautiful Southern Belles).
Great video for ending an era for what we've always known as the KCS! Those were some stout horns on that local train. That last INTERMODAL train was strolling through and the sound of those locomotives was music to my ears! Thanks again Bishop for your unprecedented time and effort getting some great footage for us railfans! Cheers from Delmar, Delaware.
Back when I was at LA Tech (92-96), I was watching the KCS take over this line from the Midsouth. One of the first things KCS did was to replace all of Midsouth's engines with the GP38s & GP40s you see working the locals today. I remember seeing all of the old paint jobs on them, especially the armor yellow of you-know-who. The 38s were numbered in the 4000 series, and the 40s started at 4700. And now here we are 30 years later watching a new transformation take place. The more things change........😳😳😳
Yes seen the official STB video. I have mixed feelings about it since I have a 25 year career with CP and this merger was talked about even before I started on the railroad almost 30 years ago. Great video and enjoyed watching. have a wonderful rest of your Friday.(Steve)
Love the Ruston footage. As a Rock Island fan, Ruston is where the Rock crossed the IC, now KCS. In fact the crossing was at the 3rd grade crossing west of the bridge you were standing on. The Origin Bank building on Monroe St just north of the KCS main is the old Rock Island Freight House.
Yep....in fact the diamond was on the very west edge of the Monroe St. grade crossing. I remember seeing the signals stand for almost a decade after the line shut down. There was a set of grade crossing signals standing at the old Mississippi St. crossing across from the RI Freight House. Somebody finally got them in 2022!
When I was young and the Rock Island was in full swing, around 1977, I knew most of the Rock Island Crews and was fortunate enough to to hitch rides from Winnfield to Ruston, and then when in school at Tech in 81,82, would watch stuff around Ruston 😀. I meet Bishop back in Gisbland when His Family would bring Him down to watch the Trains. Hopefully I'll be down working on the LNW around the first week of April. Also we are trying to get a Model Railroad Club going in Winnfield, anyone interested can contact us.
Great video Bishop! Actually, I166 was IDAAT2, because I168 is the original IDAAT. The last train was actually I168 since that's the original symbol for IDAAT.
Hey, Bishop, if at all possible, could you elaborate on M166? I work for NS out of Birmingham, AL on the AGS district and we haven’t seen any new interchange trains from the KCS in Meridian. All we currently receive is IDAAT (26A), IDAAT2 (244), ILBNS (246), ZLAAI (28J), and MSHNS (340) Thanks.
I was told by my sources that M166 is essentially the replacement of IDAAT2 with the mixture of manifest and intermodal. Always good to see railroad employees visiting the channel! Appreciate you watching!
I thoroughly enjoyed seeing the trains passing through Bienville Parish and then through Ruston. My 4-year-old son is infatuated with trains and your videos. Is there a way to know when a train is coming through? I heard you mention a scammer. I’d like to do some train watching with him but we are somewhat impatient. It’s hard to keep him engaged if nothings happening. :)
Haha he sounds like me! Primarily the scanner, but if you don’t have one just sit by a signal. The line is on the “block” system meaning that if it lights up something is only a few miles always. And if you get the chance, go in the morning time. That’s typically gonna be your best bet of catching something in the area. Appreciate your comment sir!
2:35,Well I'm sure they're repainting as many locomotives as they can so that their identity will live on (look how long Southern Pacific and Santa Fe liveries have lasted after they were taken over)
Well, I wouldn’t think that would matter much on a corporate level. Maybe they’re just keeping the guys busy until they can start painting a new scheme!

Yep, I’m definitely gonna miss going through downtown everyday once I graduate!

Generational stuff haha!
@@LouisianaRailProductions It is indeed.
Great catches there man, you got a lot of foreign power as well!
Thanks! The UP and NS motors are common sight for the Speedway but the CSX unit was definitely a welcome surprise!

Thanks Steve! Yeah truthfully I’m surprised the two companies waited this long to attempt a merger!
@@LouisianaRailProductions Your welcome and I agree with you also.
Best kind of morning
Indeed sir!
Another great video! Keep ‘em coming!
That’s the plan!

Yep, I drive by that old depot everyday on my way to classes at Tech! Appreciate you watching!

In 2012, when I left Ruston for the last time unfortunately, you could still see part of the Y going off into the weeds.
@@killersopinion1829 I wish I had known about those crossing signals because I would’ve loved to get a hold of them.

@@LouisianaRailProductions You're very welcome. Thank you for the tip. :)
What will become of the KCS Executive F Units during the merger?
No one knows.

Canadian Pacific is Mergering with Kanas City Southern.
Great video as always! Has CP bought KCS?
Yes.
It’ll go into effect on April 14th.
@@LouisianaRailProductions right on. Good to know.
You know what paint scheme will the new CPKC engines carry?
