- Sit back and enjoy this railfan documentary of the section of Kansas City Southern rails between the two big cities of North Louisiana. We'll begin our journey in the city of Shreveport and conclude in Monroe, Louisiana. This is my largest video project that I have ever released so be sure to leave a like and share it with some friends. As always, thanks for watching!

First of all I want to apologize for the train symbols being outside of the box. The editor I use kept changing the position of the text. But instead of that it would mean a lot if you liked and shared this video. Been working on this for several months!

I can't you how grateful I Am that KCS finally is utilizing the Meridian/Shreveport main line. if the IC (ICG) or Midsouth Rail could have accomplished this I think the Class One picture would be sooo different!

Loved the video. I was born in Shreveport, moved to Monroe when I was 14, and started at La Tech when I was 17. So I know all the places you went. I am now 79 and live in Virginia, but I have spent a lot of time in Ruston in the past few years. My biggest entertainment while there has been watching the trains of the speedway. When I was a student at Tech I had an apartment 50 feet from the track. The house is no longer there, but it was at the intersection of the Speedway and Homer street. At that time Homer street did not cross the tracks. Frequently trains on the Illinois Central would stop adjacent to the house and blow the whistle to get clearance to cross the Rock Island. I don't know when the last Rock Island train went through Ruston. But, I think the last passenger train was in early 1958. If anyone has information on that I would appreciate getting it. Recently an old relative referred to the train as the "Doodlebug", and he recalled riding it a few times to Little Rock, but not much else. I never saw it.
I'm currently attending Tech as well. Like you I had an apartment right by the line. I just looked out the window to see what passed. Thanks for the story! Glad you enjoyed the video!
Doodlebugs were mostly solitary people movers w/flat fronts! The Milwaukee Road operated sevl between Milwaukee n Chicago for decades n often times reached 90mph along the way...just a blur when it zoomed by!

Another great KCS video. SD70MAX is my favorite. I hope they retain the KCS business train after the meger is final. CP has a nice business train too. Nice horn salute.

Grew up with Kansas City Southern
This was really great. I knew about a few of the places along the Speedway. I like how Ruston and Artesia are set up and in Ruston's case the one spot you were at in town looks really good for parking and easy railfanning.
Glad you enjoyed it! Yeah Ruston has plenty of parking. I recommend a scanner to get a little heads up because sometimes KCS flies through downtown.

This was something I once considered doing, but didn't have the patience to deal with the trouble of putting a documentary like this together plus the fact that I was focusing more on photography than TH-cam put an end to the idea real quick. Other than a minor hiccup here and there, this is well put together and I enjoyed it. Good work.

I love the Raised Letter K5LAs that KCS has on some of their locomotives.
KCS has some nice horns including the RS5T's on some of the Geeps.
Yo we go watch trains at monroe, i do it with my aunt and we have done it for years, i never knew it was such a important line.

The long nose on that 689 is the employee recreation centre where workers can play a little basketball or tennis.
UP and NS do not have trackage rights on the speedway. Only NS has haulage rights, no NS crew can run on the speedway and the trains destined for the UP don't become a UP train till they hit Wilsons Alley. UP has trackage rights between CP 558 and Spring St. junction
two daily IM NS run throughs use the speedway.

Great footage and commentary! You got my thumbs up! In the movie called "Southern Comfort" their is a scene where a KCS train rolls by in the background. Does anyone know the location?

What's the busiest KCS line?
Couldn't really tell you. This line usually has about 12 a day. But I want to say the busiest line is Shreveport to KC.
