The nephilim were ancient creatures in the wilds of Ravnica that the Gruul said were basically unkillable beings(I'd have to double check if they specifically called them gods) and each was entirely unique(legendary!) Said the best thing to do was avoid them, or lure them into a pit or something so you could escape. Several were lured in due to an Izzet construction project, and Niv nearly lost his life to kill ONE. MaRo has stated they should have been legendary. Ink-Treader is SO much more powerful than Zada. So many cantrips in 4 colors, you can build it in so many directions. Plus due to how it works, cards that read YOUR or OPPONENT still makes copies but fizzles(which Strixhaven was NUTTY with how strong some cards were to add.) Even just a couple cards to spawn tokens off targeting Ink-Treader(and thus the board) take to to max speed after getting wiped out. I made it to be fun, and despite as casual as I made it, it still often wins the very next turn after dropping the nephilim. Makes for some fun games too, had one game where the entire board got Swords to Plowshares'd 4 times.
@@TheRealMorningstar Spells you copy that read creatures YOU control will make copies for enemies(and trigger any Magecraft) and fizzle and fail to resolve. Same with opponent's targeting making copies that will fail to resolve.
I made this deck a few months ago(nice to see the diffrences) it is crazy powerful compared to my group so I had to stop using it unfortunatly lots of fun when in the right pod though
ow for good cards that work REALLY well and are not in the vid : - Natural Affinity (makes enough creatures for a win even with empty board just over $1) - life\\death ($2ish simlar but not as good and natural affinity and has secondary utility) and Tel-Jilad Stylus(
Idk if someone mentioned it yet but by far the meanest combo to add to this deck would be Natural Affinity + Act of Treason + Cloudshift.... Permanently gain control of all creatures and all lands
@@cheraxe4ever12345678 yep it actually does work. It only works because when they return to the battlefield (from cloudshift) the game sees them as brand new creatures so they would not return to their owners from act of treason at the end of turn. Cloudshift works best because it it exiles them and then specifically returns them under your control. Conjurer's Closet could also work btw
I built a Tamanoa deck, even though Tamanoa isn't legendary. It's a really fun lifegain/ group slug deck. There isn't really any legendary creature than can do what Tamanoa can do. Golden pig of the deck is Aetherflux reservoir. Pay 50 life, deal 50 damage, gain 50 life and repeat
Niveous wisps has another use that wasnt mentioned that accomplishes the same goal of your opponents cant block. Casting it on the end step before your turn will lull your opponents into a sense of safety right while you wait on your turn to come back around.
Backlash could be a fun card in this deck... 1BR - Instant: Tap target untapped creature. That creature deals damage equal to it's power to it's controller.
I have been looking for a deck to put Smoke Spirits' Aid into and this is perfect for the adorable little guys. Also, like with Yore-Tiller Nephilim, you'd need other creatures in the deck, do you think Codie and Neoform would do the trick? Maybe Altar of Bone?
I picked up your old Nephilim deck from the time you posted it and updated it, but I added steal effects as the win-con. I target the Nephilim with the spell and gain control of every other permanent the spell can target
@@westromble4375 if i'm not mistaken, only creatures. Even though the theft spell may allow you to target other types of permanents, the nephilim ability will only copy it for creatures
Using Deeka, Fractal Theorist doubles or even triples Ink-Treaders lethality, due to being able to stack the magecraft trigger to get a token on board, giving an additional magecraft trigger when Ink-Treader's ability resolves. Every targeting cantrip gives an additional draw, kind of like draw storm. It may not be for all, as it requires a second turn on prismatic bridge, but pregame discussion should decrease the target on the back. Something to keep in mind.
Consider this: Cards like Courage in Crisis, Smell Fear, or Volt Charge. All target one creature for some effect (+1/+1 counter, MAY Fight, Or 3 damage respectively) but also PROLIFERATE. Consider that Courage In Crisis can give 10 creatures a +1/+1 counter, but also pumps all of your creatures 10 more times. Consider that this does even better if you have, say, a planeswalker like Tamiyo or Mordenkainen who will instantly ult and give you an untouchable No Max Handsize. I may be wrong on the fight one, but still.
this decks seens incredible, but im confused about the strategy of some cards, like when you cast a card that exiles your nephilim, thats it right? how would you get it back or play now that you exiled your commander and it does not goes to the command zone? this also goes for spells that deal damage or kills it, what is the best strategy here? (i can imagine that i should only use these spells on situations that im certain i will end the game, but still is there a way aroud all that?)
Mister Quarters, as I was watching your deck list, I noticed a lot of low mana value sorceries. I would like to see your take on a Collected Conjuring deck. Collected Conjuring is basically a collected company but it hits sorceries instead of creatures. Subtle differences are that Conjuring will give you cast triggers and the sorceries are cast from exile. I'd like to note that Collected Conjuring is a sorcery that lets you cast sorceries for free. Consider the artifact "Spellweaver Helix" and the sorcery "Dragon's Approach" in combination with Collected Conjuring- I'd say that's one way to build the deck, sort of like a budget thrumming stone style deck. Honestly Collected Conjuring is my favorite card in Historic/ Modern and although it is a bad card, it is cheap and very interesting to brew with. I think that if I had to build the deck, I'd make it a coin flip deck. There are a surprising number of cmc 3 or less sorceries out there that flip coins. It might be tough to build around it with a budget but honestly I think that it would be a cool puzzle of a deck to build. The Codex from Strixhaven would most likely do well in the Command Zone, as would Krark/ Sakashima. I know you love gimmicks and Collected Conjuring is one of the biggest gimmicks around. Happy brewing Mr. Quarters.
I have a tazri deck that is a lot like this with zada and orvar as secret commanders but I love this idea a little better I think because of the interaction with your opponents
First time one of your decks is exactly the same as one of mine, been playing this since esika came out. Very fun, honestly my favourite deck for having a fun/silly game but can have some very long turns. Has tons of tricks up its sleeve and almost endless answers. Ohh I also run most budget control spells, a lot of options for stealing the board.
The Nephilim are kind of like Cthulhu, being insane god-like beings, while there are actually gods on Ravnica like The Raze Boar and Merit Lage (yes, that one. The comics are weird)
This deck looks like a ton of fun and I'm seriously considering buying the entire deck outright. I probably have a handful of these cards, but it isn't worth spending the time looking for them. lol
I suggest removing a bunch of cards for better targeting cantrips. There's a lot due to the game being old, and having 5 colours. I did this, and the deck is still under €30
Rules question: An opponent goes to Swords my Ink Treader, its ability triggers targeting each other legal creature, I then give my Ink Treader hexproof, preventing him from being targeted but everything else still is targeted. That works, correct?
Yes, with a timing caveat. If the hexproof spell targets Ink Treader then you'll need to specify that you're casting it after each Swords copy resolves but before the original Swords does. You control the copies of the spells regardless of who cast the original. gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=107092
this is bonkers. I was gonna make Hinata, but it just felt overpowered and not fun in paper. My buddy did Orvar and it gives you the sense of "it must die right away". This, at first glance, feels more fun than either, more unique, more effects to abuse, and easier to protect ink-treader? I'd love to see a high-powered version. My mind goes to having even more threaten/theft effects
I'm on the fence about buying this one. It would be really neat, but the idea of one exile getting through or failing to bring it out of the graveyard makes it seem like it wouldn't be a deck that you could play very often with the same group.
it definitely needs a pull from tomorrow to get it back from exile, and whilst we do want to only hit ink treader, having a zada in there wouldnt be too bad if ink treader's out. Also maybe trade a few spells for ones that create creatures unconditionally so we dont have to rely solely on our opponents boards at first to start the party
Can I just say jin gitaxias might actually be the greatest partner for this strat, while being an extra 5/5 body. You can just do everything your doing now, but twice, and at worse, it buts you back one turn for getting ink trader out
if I want the most powerful deck could you choose your kenrith budget deck or this variation of ink treader nephilim? maybe i will just get both on paper are cheap.
I run a similar deck, I have general tazri and the only allies in my deck are Orvar, Zada, and graveshifter incase one dies. Ink treader neph is also in the deck but i barely ever draw it.
Wouldn't you get to copy the whole simic charm spell and not just the choice you made? So couldn't you target him with +3/+3 and then bounce other creatures with the copies?
Unfortunately, the modes are locked in too 707.10. To copy a spell, activated ability, or triggered ability means to put a copy of it onto the stack; a copy of a spell isn’t cast and a copy of an activated ability isn’t activated. A copy of a spell or ability copies both the characteristics of the spell or ability and all decisions made for it, including modes, targets, the value of X, and additional or alternative costs. (See rule 601, “Casting Spells.”) Choices that are normally made on resolution are not copied. If an effect of the copy refers to objects used to pay its costs, it uses the objects used to pay the costs of the original spell or ability. A copy of a spell is owned by the player under whose control it was put on the stack. A copy of a spell or ability is controlled by the player under whose control it was put on the stack. A copy of a spell is itself a spell, even though it has no spell card associated with it. A copy of an ability is itself an ability.
What do you do after you use the prismatic bridge to get Ink Treader Nephilim? wouldn't you go infinite on the next upkeep trying to reveal a creature or planes walker?
I asked my playgroup if it was fine for me to build a "non legendary" edh deck and the guy who always complains said he thinks that it would be cheating... then I watched this video and I told him: "worry not", because I just made sure that the deck is 100% legal. He is still gonna hate it but he won't be able to complain about the deck not being legal. The rest of my playgroup think it is hilarious!
Veryan, Voice of Duality, Storm-Kiln Artist and Harmonic Prodigy are going to be insane with this commander. When you start copying, all of those copies are going to copy again, and net you a lot of treasures...
I was thinking about Storm-kiln and even goldspan for the treasures off being targeted but it means less chance for actually getting ink-treader and another upkeep trigger you need to wait for so i'm not sure adding more than one or two creatures would hurt the deck. LMK youre opinions on the it though!
This is true, but adding creatures into the deck may break it because you are delaying your time before getting Ink-Treader. One way I found to get around this is Sphinx of the Second Sun. That way you could have 1 additional creature, Sphinx and Inktreader, and be guarunteed to get Ink-Treader on your first or second turn with the Bridge out. Combined with a good mana package and you've got a really nice looking wincon lined up.
@@JonReid01 Storm Kiln Artist is probably the best. For each time you copy a spell make a treasure in ink-treader that is effectively unstoppable. But lots of them are good.
I feel like resolving Kari Zev’s Expertise in this deck could be an absolute disaster. If you have a couple of the spells that draw you card, it would look like a storm deck and suddenly the stack is a mess to resolve.
I'm not sure if I missed it or not, but assuming prismatic bridge is what gets your ink-treader out, are you just assumed to reveal your entire deck every turn?
can the ink treader ability activate from endless obedience while in the graveyard if ink treader gets killed? that way you could just bring back every single creature in all graveyards
Don't forget Mitch, Teferi's Time twist will exile your lands as well so it can kind of seedborne muse you for a turn, OR if you do it on the endstep before your turn you wont have lands on your turn. Mythos of Illuna will create you a copy of EVERY SINGLE land, enchantment, artifact, creature, and planeswalker on the board as well. Bonkers
For Startle wouldn't it make more tokens then just X amount of creatures on the board and break the game? As each copy would resolve with an example just your commander. Then you then target the new token and make a new token and draw a card, and rinse and repeat. Effectively drawing your entire deck out. Would it ever stop?
Green ,black sapproling card rates destroys a Creature and you get a 1/1 sap for creatures toughness. So n if it's a 6/6. You get 6 saps. But now your killing all and you get saps for all!
Just as a note, I didn’t hear it in the video but the text on ink-treader says it’s copied for each CREATURE the spell can target, and then each targets a different one of those CREATURES.
Makes for some fun games too, had one game where the entire board got Swords to Plowshares'd 4 times.
secret commander or as the commander?
@@RandomCommenter955 Actual commander. Both my personal play group and the local shops back up they're legendary via lore, and exceptionally unique.
@@TheRealMorningstar Spells you copy that read creatures YOU control will make copies for enemies(and trigger any Magecraft) and fizzle and fail to resolve. Same with opponent's targeting making copies that will fail to resolve.
I made this deck a few months ago(nice to see the diffrences) it is crazy powerful compared to my group so I had to stop using it unfortunatly lots of fun when in the right pod though
ow for good cards that work REALLY well and are not in the vid : - Natural Affinity (makes enough creatures for a win even with empty board just over $1) - life\\death ($2ish simlar but not as good and natural affinity and has secondary utility) and Tel-Jilad Stylus(
One thing I noticed, if you cast balcksmith’s skill your copied spells no longer target your opponents creature because they would have hexproof
Idk if someone mentioned it yet but by far the meanest combo to add to this deck would be Natural Affinity + Act of Treason + Cloudshift.... Permanently gain control of all creatures and all lands
That doesn't work, does it?
@@cheraxe4ever12345678 yep it actually does work. It only works because when they return to the battlefield (from cloudshift) the game sees them as brand new creatures so they would not return to their owners from act of treason at the end of turn. Cloudshift works best because it it exiles them and then specifically returns them under your control. Conjurer's Closet could also work btw
ive been trying to build a 5 color feather deck for a while. this is the perfect way to do it.
Slight question. Does the nephilem target all permanents or just creatures with the new copies?
@@westromble4375 if i'm not mistaken, only creatures. Even though the theft spell may allow you to target other types of permanents, the nephilim ability will only copy it for creatures
I'd love to see the break the bank version of this deck!
Quarters.
Epic Experiment seems destined to be in this deck.
I have a tazri deck that is a lot like this with zada and orvar as secret commanders but I love this idea a little better I think because of the interaction with your opponents
Man I know its a budget deck but holy moly would a Thought Vessel fit SOOO well in here
I’m soooooo building this deck.
That deck really look like a lot of fun ! Also, bravo because it must have been pretty hard to build
The Nephilim are kind of like Cthulhu, being insane god-like beings, while there are actually gods on Ravnica like The Raze Boar and Merit Lage (yes, that one. The comics are weird)
okay yeah after watching im definitely building this, this is absolutely insane
This a cute deck I got what u were trying to do once I looked at the intercation that was happening in the thumbnail
I did this, and the deck is still under €30
Orvar likes Ink Treader?
I would totally build this deck around Threaten effects.
Put Orvar in this deck and copy everything you have!
Have you ever considered Surveyor's Scope as a replacement for Wayfarer's Bauble?
Blasphemy!
I have a brawl deck that uses the prismatic bridge as the commander in a similar way with only one creature in the deck as a secret commander
I added omniscience to this deck and it became so chaotically powerful.
Rules question:
An opponent goes to Swords my Ink Treader, its ability triggers targeting each other legal creature, I then give my Ink Treader hexproof, preventing him from being targeted but everything else still is targeted.
You can just do everything your doing now, but twice, and at worse, it buts you back one turn for getting ink trader out
This is the coolest deck I’ve ever seen
This is wonderful, but could we please get deck builds for the other nephilim?
This is amazing. I adore this concept
if I want the most powerful deck could you choose your kenrith budget deck or this variation of ink treader nephilim? maybe i will just get both on paper are cheap.
Unfortunately, the modes are locked in too
@@vincentpham5546 thank you for the answer and rule!
What do you do after you use the prismatic bridge to get Ink Treader Nephilim? wouldn't you go infinite on the next upkeep trying to reveal a creature or planes walker?
Pro Tip; Cast Doomblade on your ink Treader while having a black attacker on the field
What are your thoughts on Mystic Reflection in this deck?
hi was wondering are you able to create a very high competitive angel deck? 🤔
I played this in standard with cards like wildsize, pongify, and momentary blink
I love ink-treader. Easily my favorite deck. Magecraft is brokenly good with ink-treader.
Can you give an example?
@@JonReid01 Storm Kiln Artist is probably the best. For each time you copy a spell make a treasure in ink-treader that is effectively unstoppable. But lots of them are good.
@@benglatt1389 thanks 🙏
I feel like resolving Kari Zev’s Expertise in this deck could be an absolute disaster. If you have a couple of the spells that draw you card, it would look like a storm deck and suddenly the stack is a mess to resolve.
It's like a car accident, it's terrible and somebody probably died, but you feel like you have to watch the whole thing
Can't you also put mirrorwing dragon too for redundancy incase you lose nephlim?
I'm not sure if I missed it or not, but assuming prismatic bridge is what gets your ink-treader out, are you just assumed to reveal your entire deck every turn?
Esika God tribal is a very interesting build
all of a sudden shock looks like such an op spell
I have a Karn's Temporal Sundering.
Does it work the way I want it to?
Oh my word, this is the goofiest deck I've always wanted to make. Please tell me there's a BTB of this deck in progress.
So do you have to target your opponents creatures as well or can you choose not to?
“People at wizards”. Lol it was MaRo
can the ink treader ability activate from endless obedience while in the graveyard if ink treader gets killed? that way you could just bring back every single creature in all graveyards
Bonkers
i dont think thats right for mythos. Ink treader only copies for each creature it can target not each permanent.
@@ericcastaneda1174 you are correct, I mistakenly thought it would target all permanents the spell could target
For Startle wouldn't it make more tokens then just X amount of creatures on the board and break the game? As each copy would resolve with an example just your commander. Then you then target the new token and make a new token and draw a card, and rinse and repeat. Effectively drawing your entire deck out. Would it ever stop?
It only cares about the creatures that are on the board when ink treader copies the spell
This deck sounds like so much fun!!!
Ooooooh! I think I have a deck that I can put my Thousand-Year Storm into!
This is actually pretty dope
if i have more budget where could I find what to upgrade?
Commander rules commity should just add the accepting for Nephillim creatures to count as legendary
This is a really great and unique deck 👍
What about a Prismatic Bridge deck but with all of the nephilim and just chaos ensues
Wait, do you not get to choose what mode Simic Charm uses when you copy it?
Green ,black sapproling card rates destroys a Creature and you get a 1/1 sap for creatures toughness. So n if it's a 6/6. You get 6 saps. But now your killing all and you get saps for all!
