Finally a Dimir deck that I like that isn’t mill 😌
Hey gisa and geralf (my personal favorite blue black deck why I refuse to make a new dimir deck) zombies isn't Mill it can use mill however as one of the many win cons with undead alchemist, altar of the brood and altar of dementia set up right and watch the table rage as you slowly kill everyone.

It's better tribal base start but gisa and geralf have built in recursion value for the rest of your zombies to pick your best tool for the job like being able to keep a Voltron commander out of the game by constantly replaying fleshbag maurader, or setting up a good diregraf colusus or having any number of sidis tutors

Having played with Toxrill, I've noticed a number of things:
+ Proliferate is unnecessary. Things will be dead in no time, even without it. Maybe a Karn's Bastion, if you really really want to. But don't waste any spell or creature slots.
+ You are very, very vulnerable until Toxrill is out. If you can run Propaganda, No Mercy, or Aetherspouts, highly recommended. Toxrill's cost is what makes him "fair."
+ The first time folks are exposed to Toxy, they won't know how it works. Once it gets going, however...from then on, your friends will fully know how it works and will want to do everything to prevent it.
+ I run a lot of mana. I play Crypt Ghast and Nirkana Revenant, plus Cabal Coffers and Urborg. None of these are budget. Leaden Myr is a good budget choice, as is Dark Ritual.
+ I run a lot of protection, too. Almost all protection spells are budget. Alexi's Cloak, Feign Death, Kaya's Ghostform, Lazotep Plating, Mirror Shield, Supernatural Stamina, Undying Evil, and You See a Guard Approach are all good budget cards to consider.
Overall, because of the one-note-ness of Toxrill, I wonder about how much longer the deck will be playable before every game becomes more or less the same. I'm not there yet, but I can see that moment at some not too distant point in the future.
Everything I wanted to say. Basically a very unusual voltron deck. Toxrill is a must-kill if your opponents want to actually play magic, so how do you protect it when you are Archenemy? Your deck will have to be mostly interaction and protection. But will it be fun a few months from now? Let us know! I run a Scarab God deck that I find very satisfying in these colors. He's a problem, but not quite as smothering.

Thought the same thing about proliferate after 1st play. Useless until Toxrill shows up and probably overkill once he does.
Personally I am running a toxrill with a reanimate shapeshifter and control theme and I am having a blast rn playing toxrill. I rarely win the same way with toxrill. The shapeshifter theme allows me to basically run my opponents win con. So I have won with toxrill using burn, token swarm and voltron.
Pair Toxrill with Necrosynthesis, keep some graveyard bounces and board wipes ready. Lots of Proliferate, and sac outlets to use those slugs.
My Toxrill has won me seven tournaments so far, and ive got enough wincons in the deck, that i dont have to worry much about not getting Tox out on the field.
I've got a few cards that let me sac my slugs to deal direct damage. Pair that with a token generation card that has 'whenever another creature dies, create *token*' and you get my #1 killer, the sac outlet death loop. Sac a slug, deal damage, because i sacked the slug, i get a 2/2 zombie, which i sac for direct damage, etc.
I'm playing Toxrill in MTGA, historic brawl. It cracks me UP when it straight up wipes the board.
I've been playing it in arena as well and it's been a pleasure messing with scute swarm players 😂😂
My favorite anti scute play is toralf+torbrane (and/or fiery for x3dmg)+any creature burn.
My lowest TCGPlayer market price is currently $2.19 for my Commander 2017 printing.

They day after I purchased my deck build this video is released. Oh well I got most picks to match this though mine is a little different. One thing you might think of is replicating ring it's usually a pretty terrible card because of the time it takes to ultimate but with proliferate triggers we can ultimate it much faster than most people are prepared to deal with. Also the proliferate triggers allow us to add hidden Voltron synergy seeing as toxrill is already a 7/7 adding equipment and proliferate triggers means he can get massive very quickly giving him a second win con without taking away from the decks main build strategy. Westgate regent also does this very well with the proliferate triggers.
A really nice card thats pretty cheap that i think would do well is Diplomatic Immunity. It is an enchantment that has shroud and gives enchanted creature shroud. Its really good protection and because the deck focuses on Toxrill's ability and not targeting it, I think it would be a good addition. Its also fairly budget being only $1.00 on TCG player.
Interesting build. Most Toxrill decks seem to go more creature heavy.
Anyway, want a fun little combo? Run Urborg and a card called Kormus Bell.

Gisa, meathook massacre, Revel in Riches, black market, massacre worm, and blood artist are great upgrades to Toxril. You're also in blue so any copy spells are also amazing.

It's also important to note that Sludge Monster makes those 1/1 Slugs into 2/2's if you don't have anything to target on your opponents field. It's not a huge power buff, but having 12 power on board instead of 6 is always a fun time!

There is actually one more card that deals with Slime Counters and it was from OG Innistrad (Set), Gutter Grime

Whenever a nontoken creature you control dies, put a slime counter on Gutter Grime, then create a green Ooze creature token with “This creature’s power and toughness are each equal to the number of slime counters on Gutter Grime.”
glad someone else caught that! i run gutter grime in a super jank Experiment Kraj ooze/slime tribal deck. doesn’t win often, but it’s a fun inside joke with my playgroup and helps a lot of slime and ooze cards shine for once.

It's not a budget card, but Forbidden Orchard is an amusing tech in this deck. Give people spirits that will die almost immediately.

I've played my Toxrill (who I got the pre-release version of from a pack) in a few different groups and pods and never have I seen something or someone get targeted down as hard as I have with Toxrill. From zapping him a turn after he enters to spending big spells to destroy all my mana rocks. Gotta find a really good way to protect him.
There's always diplomatic immunity. It's a 2 drop blue enchantment that gives the creature shroud and has shroud itself.
@@Werewolfoverlord12 i regularly discover that even diplomatic immunity is vulnerable to bounce spells. I'm adding more counterspells to my Zur deck for this exact reason.
@@Mister_Tedious which is why i usually save my counter spells for board wipes and the like. Not saying its a perfect solution but its magic: there are none.

I actually made a deck around this guy as SOON as I saw him . My second fav commander all time.
Saw thumbnail, so havent watched totally.
Saw toxrill and asap wanted to build him, had tezzerits in my binder and realised proliferate is pretty strong to build into.
Think I got 9 or so proliferates in the deck.

I've been brewing a "Toxic Treasure" with Toxrill and Revel in Riches leading the way. Has been a very entertaining way to win and if they do take out Tox you got plenty of treasure to cash in to pull him back out.

Exactly. It is so oppressive. It brings me back to my Urza deck... turn 1 winter orb w turn 2 Urza meant I was the only one playing magic...
@@cstaie85 That's why it costs 7 mana. It is super good when it hits the field but it takes a while, even with ramp (not dimirs specialty). Opponents can see it coming a mile away as well and save some removal for it. Commander tax gets harsh fast too.
@@seanmahoney2671 agreed. However some decks suck against this and run little removal. The sheer oppressive nature is devastating. But man is it effective. It's like an upgraded Elesh Norn

I’ve built this deck as an aristocratic control deck and it’s just so dumb; it’s amazing how hard games can spiral out of control with your commander out
I just built a deck for this commander. I used an Infect/proliferate theme. Surprisingly, many of the infect cards are very inexpensive.
Toxrill is just so obscenely powerful, it's crazy. It's just board wipe after board wipe with just one card. I'm genuinely surprised it's only 12 bucks of something.
Each new set has a new 7 drop bomb legendary. This one is awesome but you WILL be targeted.
I would remove a bunch of proliferate/win more cards from this build for additionnal counterspells and things to protect him. He's gonna have a HUGE target on his back...
Well with the amount of salt he makes, it only makes sense the opponents would use it against him

I've been playing a monoblack toxrill standard brawl/commander deck on arena for the last two month with almost 90%win rate. It's just everything in black that creates treasure(e.g. paladin or port merchant), early removal (e.g. bloodchief thirst) and a few other value-heavy cards like prof. onyx and Westgate vampire v fun.
What about this upgrades a little les budget lier, disciple of drowned, hullbreaker horror, quasiduplicate, grave betrayal what do you think 🤔
Only other card so far in Magic that cares about Slime Counters is Gutter Grime - a green enchantment that wants to have slime counters on itself. Outside of the color, and would need to animate the enchantment. Really big hoops to jump through.

The main effect happens at END STEP not UPKEEP as you stated multiple times.
I'm surprised he didn't mention consuming aberration, that thing would get huge quick
another fun card to go in, massacre girl known killer, cuz hello, every one of your creatures has wither, so you deal damage in -1/-1 counters, so if your opponents block a slug or you block with one, well thats even closer to another slug for you
There is one other card that effects slime counters but it puts them on itself to increase strength so not vary relevant. Just thought I'd point it out

I understand it’s a budget version. You can make this very very nasty by using some more powerful stuff like Sword of Truth and Justice, Innexorable Tide, Contagion Engine. As well as increasing the power of the mana rocks with stuff like Mana Vault and Grim Monolith. Lots of potential here for a mean deck
Willbreaker could be fun here with counterspells and auras and targeted such likes the exchange control spells and abilities. Not so budget friendly but not too bad either

Would you consider building a spirit tribal deck around Kykar wind's grave now that we have a bunch of new spirits from the last 2 sets. I think if I were to build it I'd try to create as many 1/1 spirit tokens as I can, get etb effects off of cards like impact tremors or perpheros, sac outlets that deal damage like goblin bombardment, and anything else along those lines. Could be interesting
I’m new to commander. I thought the only cards allowed in your deck were the ones that share the same mana color as your commander? Why are there blue cards in his recommendations when Toxrill is only black?
Don't worry it's an easy thing to overlook, if a Legendary has another color in its textbox like like Toxrill's ability at the bottom, it costs included a blue mana. Therefore it has a blue snd black manabase

If you're willing to go outside the budget, Yawgmoth, Thran Physician is an amazing choice.

@@crowryan2790 I'd add a few black and blue staples: Toxic Deluge, Rhystic Study, Cyclonic Rift, Fierce Guardianship, and the new Meathook Massacre.
I'd also upgrade the mana base with a fetchland, a Ravnica dual, Shipwreck Marsh, and Darkslick Shores.
Also, I might upgrade the rocks a bit. Dimir Signet, Firemind Vessel, etc.
what about the basic land ratio? how many black and nlue lands should i play with this list?

I think that with toxrill you just put a lot of protection and counter spells.Cast your commander and wait till your oponents lose. The majority od this cards looks Like overkill.

I know mana base rules MTG and makes deckbuilding unbearable and unhealthy but over the time I acquired some good Orzhov lands so maybe I just look for an Orzhov commander...

I just got a Toxrill in a booster yesterday and had no idea it could be this powerful. I’m new to the game.
(just a tip, don't buy boosters if you are new to magic. invest in individual cards or collector boosters if you want to collect. when you open boosters you gambling and will most likely only get a dollar back if you spend 3-5 bucks on a pack.)

i'm new to Commander so im confused. I thought the rule for Commander was that your Commander's colors decide what color the rest of your deck is?
If so how can he use Sludge Monster, which is a Blue? Toxrill is Black only.
Toxrills slug sacrificing ability requires a black and a blue mana. So technically, because he has the blue and black mana symbol on him, toxril is black and blue

The sacrifice ability costs blue and black. the commanders color identity is equal to all colors that appear on the card. This includes CMC and activated abilities.
