    When the pro films and the apprentice ANXIOUSLY does the work 🙂 Love how you told the apprentice to wait to start and showed him verbally each step. Note that the roofers show the viewers to nail on the tar line of the shingles.

    I really like that your video show people to recaulk the tab down which is very important. One thing I would change is to bead each hole then bead down the shingle do not put it in a line because the water get in from behind it have no way to escape. Usually 3 beads work for me.

    love the videos, I would not run a bead across, just put a few dobs down, the bead of cement will act as a damn should water get behind it

    When I was a little kid my brother and I would get on the roof and rip sections of the roof off and throw them like frisbies. Not the whole shingle, but parts of the tabs. I regret doing that now. thankfully it didn't rain very often in San Diego.

      @@Drewsroofingandhomerepair Somehow we never got caught. It was a naval housing rental house. We did get our asses kicked for dropping sweet gum tree spikey seed balls down the sewer vent pipes in the roof after we finally put enough down there to clog it. I was a little shit, but I've reformed! lol

    Not sure I understand. Please help. When you put down the shingle tar, you only put the tar on the side at the bottom, but not arould all there sides (bottom plus the left and right edges)?

    • @Drewsroofingandhomerepair
      @Drewsroofingandhomerepair  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If your not careful with tar it will crest a water dam. So I just like putting a dab on it a apposed to across the bottom. I hope it helps

    • @Drewsroofingandhomerepair
      @Drewsroofingandhomerepair  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Never put it at the sides. Just at the existing tar line only

    I saw one video the guy replaced the whole three tab shingle why would you cut into other shingles to replace a shingle whey not replace the whole three tab ? I am not a roofer dont know shit but it makes sense to not cut anything and just replace the whole three tab

    • @Drewsroofingandhomerepair
      @Drewsroofingandhomerepair  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’ll be completely honest with you that is exactly what we should have done. I do not know why we did that that way I cannot remember at this point. But yes on three tab shingles we should always replace the entire shingle not just a piece or two. It just makes for a better job. Thank you for bringing that to my attention I never thought about it again after I did the video. But you are correct if you’re going to replace one tab or two tabs you might as well replace the whole shingle. It would be just as easy. So my video kind of showed it wrong and if you look at that video was probably five years old. I would never do that again. Lesson learned thank you for the comment I always appreciate feedback

      @@Drewsroofingandhomerepair I got a new roof in 2018 done and two shingles blew off I can do basic carpentry but roofing that is a whole new ball game . I have blown it off long enough I have to get up there this week and fix it . I am intimidated by it and dont know why? I guess the not knowing. I can tear into a boat or a muscle car and engines but this one is way out of my wheel house. I am glad I have lots of left overs Thanks for the reply

      Fortunately if you have the three tab shingle they are the easiest ones to replace. The architectural shingles on the other hand are a bear to replace so fortunately if you have the three tab it’s easy get a Stanley flat bar they are the best pull the nails just like I showed in the video. If you’re removing one shingle you have to take the nails out for two singles above it’s pretty easy once you get started I think you’ll have no problem at all thank you for stopping by and I appreciate your comments my friend like I said I really appreciate the comment where I didn’t replace the whole shingle and should have because you are 100% correct and don’t forget to use a couple dabs of caulking on the new shingles and the older shingles that are touching the new shingles because they won’t stick back properly. Do not use silicone. Buy a tube of LEXELL
