  • I was sent a piece of Guave from viewer Tim back in 2021. Not wanting to waste any of the wood I thought about it for a few years. Then decided it needed cut in half.
The results were well worth it. A beautiful piece of wood
    Thank you Tim!

I’m sitting with my feet up and a glass of whisky in my hand after spending an afternoon at my lathe watching the master at work. A perfect end to my day 🌞

So cool I watched it twice. Actually after I started it the first time "life" intervened and I missed most of the process and the finished product. I had to come back and watch it to see. Very nice bowl, glad I checked again.

I grew up in Florida and we had a guava tree in our backyard. My mom and grandma made guava jelly and we also ate the delicious fruit. I probably never gave the wood a second thought, but it sure is pretty.

You can definitely see that it came from a tree with that live edge. So much more character than a bowl turned from a symmetrical blank, just love it..

Really nice piece. I have turned a few pieces from Guava, one almost exactly like yours. I personally think turning it end grain gives way more character. The grain can be very light, but burning it lightly & sanding with a light oil makes it pop. It's invasive species down here around Cape Town.

Your videos are kind of like watching a sculptor chipping away all of the waste to reveal the statue that was hidden inside of a piece of marble.
Nice job on a tricky piece.

That's a first for me! Never seen Guava turned before. Did it smell good? Was the dust tasty? LOL! Anyway, the grain is pretty and you took care of the cracks that are so common in fruit wood. The color sure popped with a little finish! Nice job, my friend! I hope you are feeling better. Maybe you are going/gone to the turning show? Later, buddy! 😊

That is a fantastic little bowl. I like the character of both the wood and the shape of the bowl. That bowl looks like it is super smooth. I looked up Guava wood because I have never heard of it before. Says it a hard wood South American fruit tree. I was wondering if you agree with it being a hard wood?
