I really like your approach to the natural elements of the wood and taking advantage of the uniqueness of the individual piece. I really like what you have done.
Hi 👋, Phil, That is definitely a gorgeous piece of Art, well worth the time and effort, I think I can see a face in the bowl, bear 🐻, a with a white tongue sticking out, 😛, 😂, great work, Phil, I still have a lot of work to do on my work shop, mainly to insulate the roof, and need to run some cables for lighting, And I have some leftover floor paint my workshop back in the UK from years ago, I’m going to get the floor at least another coat, then I’m going to get some white floor paint to go over the top, as it is made the room very dark, And I have been Wrench this week, it the process of changing final drive belt, I need to get out as I have been locked in for 4/5 years, Keep up the great work, stay safe, France.
Hi Phil, Another beauty "in the books" 👍😁 The beauty in nature and wood never ceases to amaze me, and the way you bring it out also amazes me every time 👍 Keep up your fantastic work, thank you 😊
Wow! The shape is perfect -- kind of like a volcano from the side views. The sheen is ideal -- not too much shiny-shiny to detract away from the colors and grain. The chatoyance is infinitely awe-inspiring -- love those rays inside the bowl. This is more gem-cutting than wood turning. Beautiful, all around.
You're lucky to have friends like that, that bit is expensive. And you finish the piece very professionally. The bowl is absolutely wonderful, a new work of art ala Phil Andersen. ❤ Carsten 👨🦽
Massive describes it very well Phil. I was going to finish my coffee and head out to my lathe but now I need to rest after watching you work so hard. But the hard work was well worth the effort. I did see a number of faces and animals but my head was spinning from watching all the cool features I lost them. But they are there...really LOL The finish is perfect for the piece as it always is. Great choices all the way through this fun video to watch. Take care and rest up my friend, Gary

Nicely done Phil! I’m glad to hear that you prefer the natural properties that might cause a bowl to remain thick. I have found that truth in some of my turnings too, but am a little sheepish that I didn’t thin the bowl out further. This piece is a showcase for natural bowls everywhere. Thanks so much!
Cool, thanks Karen! 😃 I do like bowls that are a little chunky. They have some heft that give a feeling of value, to me. On the other hand, I usually try to make them as thin as the characteristics of the wood will allow. Luckily for me, I like weird wood so they often have thick sides because otherwise, they would have holes in them!
Oh my gosh this was an absolute beauty!!! Can definitely tell that wood had to have been super hard! Argh I am really falling in love with Maple!! Can't wait until I have a lathe large enough to do big pieces like this! I know it must have been a ton of work but well worth the effort in my humble opinion!!

Hello Phil. At about minute 27, you ask, "can you see the salamander"? My mother and I both got a smile from that because she saw a gekko and I saw a sugar glider. :-). I get the impression that turning a burl is a bit like opening a geode, in that you are almost certain to find something delightful inside it. Anyway, as always, thank you, thank you for bringing us these videos.
i agree the small ramp side should be in the front for display. I love Maple Burl. the quilting and figuring in this one is beautiful. Enjoy this big boy.
Phil, every time I think I’ve seen your best bowl, your current one is now the best. The reason is, they’re all excellent and all different and works of art. Love this maple burl bowl! Thanks for helping me unwind after a hard day at work. Everything you do and say generates positive vibrations. Thanks again Phil. Can’t wait for the next one. Aloha from Washington.

Thank you! 😀
Yes, very much like that, Deirdre! 😀
