      I did a couple pieces in a spare room, just be extra careful with the dust and do not use any harmful products! Odies oil is a great product as the fumes aren't toxic and they can get on your hands.

  • @aaronrishell1571

    Tip: when you are using a carbide scraper and there are crashing grain patterns you can turn the blade and scrape 45 degrees to the direction of the grain. Just reduce your pressure a little and take your time. Any light scratches will come out with sanding. Also a good card scraper will work well on those areas as well. Nice work on this table.
    One piece of criticism. Wood epoxy is a great tool in the bag for small screw holes and chipped out substrate but I would recommend you up your game. Get ahold of a flush cut saw, chisels and practice cutting sections like that large missing piece flat and laminating a piece of like wood then shaping it. The resulting repair will be much stronger and last a lot longer. That table looks like teak so using red oak would work if you couldn’t get some scrap teak.
    For the Odies oil t9 make it less fatigue on your fingers dribble it on with a spoon use a rubber scraper to spread it then with a non abrasive pad use firm circular sanding to work it into the grain. The scraper will spread it evenly and ensure you are not waiting any. The non abrasives will ensure you are not scratching the finished wood.

    • @FurnitureFlippa
      @FurnitureFlippa  17 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Thank you! Good tip for scraping, I found that going on the angle was good when removing paint too! And I considered chisel and sawing, but I just thought since its all hidden I chose the easy way out lol also good idea for the odies oil! Thanks for watching and the tips - Jamie

    I just started my first full restoration and I was feeling really intimidated. The coffee table I have is not the exact same, but the same company and same type of construction. I'm hopeful mine is teak as well, but I don't know my wood grains that well yet. Mine had been painted white and the paint is down in the grain and there is water damage. This video motivated me. I hope mine comes out as beautiful as yours.

    • @FurnitureFlippa
      @FurnitureFlippa  9 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Check out my aqua desk video, it's painted teak like this, and I strip and scrape it. Don't use citristrip, but you can use a better stripper and follow similar steps! When paint is in the grain you can use stripper and wire brushes to get it out, also mineral spirits and a wire brush too. Good luck!

      Clamp down the pieces that I am scraping? I usually do that haha this one I was quickly scraping, then sanding, just to begin the oxalic acid treatment on bare wood. Then I just sanded everything after anyways.

    • @Belzediel
      @Belzediel 17 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@FurnitureFlippa No, if you wish to scrape along the grain when you have two pieces at different angles, you can clamp a second piece of wood over the other so your scraper cannot go onto the wrong bit. You can either pop your scraper along the edge of the clamped piece knowing your blade is on the joint line, or butt the blade up against the wood to pull away from it, knowing, again, your blade isn't on the wrong bit.
