I don't think Wes Bled the air out of the Injector lines on the original Injector Pump / Lines . After he put on the new reman Injector Pump he DID bleed the air out of the lines , and the it started . Could it be the only thing wrong with the original Injector Pump was that he FAILED to bleed the air out of the system ????

I had an injector go bad on my 9500 combine and I pulled the pump to make sure it didn't have something crap out to lodge in that injector. if your 4960 is the same, remove that plug left of the fill hole. then spin the motor over till both timing lines match. you may need to turn the motor over twice because the injection pump makes one revolution for every for every two revolutions of the engine. (the motor makes an fire and exhaust cycle while the pump only makes fire cycles.). my motor had a bolt with a pin on the front of the motor too. you remove the bolt, turn it around and spin the motor by hand till the pin dropped in the hole. if the marks didn't line up, then I need to spin the motor over one more time. that way the motor is on TDC (top dead center) to install the new pump.

I'm surprised that you managed to get the re-manufactured pump so quickly, did they have it in stock? Prospects look much better for a start judging by the amount and colour of smoke but timing may be a real concern.
OK, stupid question time. What year did JD quit using self bleeding injectors? I used a lot of 4020s that we just kept the fuel filter full and it would start in a minute or 2.

you should check over manual many times before just installing it. The one I did was on a international and you had to a line the marks on the flywheel with the ones on injection pump to make sure the pump was in time not an easy job

I for one have learn some grate tricks to fix them problems that rear there heads at the worst times. In my book what ever works is fine. there are millions of side chair quarter backs ! But only a very few that get the job done! Don't let the North end of South facing jerks get you down!

@@grassman1502 Possibly, a great point though. Injector pumps are finicky and they don't function well with air in the lines, ever.
