Good job Wes & Tim u cant beat the older deeres & the sound of the 7.6 motors Thanks for sharing this project with us, i shall use many tips in the future. Tone England
Awesome video of the beast roaring to life again. You looked relieved and happy after the 2nd tweak of the pump timing. Fantastic job guys, you overcame the hurdles and got it 99% done. A little fine tuning and some adjustments and she'll be pulling your new sprayer as you told us a few vids back. Thanx again for taking us along for the journey and the HD filming and edits. You and Tim ROCK Wes, you should be very proud !
So glad to see the 4960 running! You've put a lot of time, money, and work into that thing and I'm glad to see it paying off. Hopefully it'll be all back to normal soon and you can get her back to work!
Wes - you (and Tim) have done an awesome job in this restoration project! Sure, you'll have a few kinks to work out, but given the magnitude of what's been involved - you've got a smashing success here! Kudos to your skill, experience and obvious inherent talent for mechanics. And thanks for taking the time and effort to share this with us - I'm sure most here recognize that putting in the extra time to video tape this project, edit and post is no small job. To make that effort to include us shows what a great guy you really are! I wish you all the success in the world once this 4960 begins it's daily chores once again in the fields. Looking forward to this years preparations, plantings, maintenance and harvesting - it's gonna be a year of pleasure tuning in here weekly! Thanks! Wish there was something we could do to repay you...
Wes, you already know that you make your living amongst a very small and select group of farmers and ranchers. You my be proud that you stand out among the best of the best. Very few would have considered this project, fewer still tried it and you succeeded! Well done. Well done.
Very NICE , nice feeling to get it running ! there is a LIGHT at the end of the tunnel . Amazing rebuild , great video's , can't wait to see you use it in the field .
Nice job wes, never pay much attention to the first 5 minutes a engine runs rough after such a extensive job, it could be perfect, and just need to settle down and get back to life. I didn't think you would just have fired her and gone to the field, there's always things that you miss and things that you just couldn't know. Now you can say another couple days work, and she will be ready to work. Tho it would be nice to refresh the cab, and finish painting. I would however have changed the oil before firing her, to have a better gauge on the condition of parts that you might have not checked extensively enough, and protect all those moving parts from damage before the water can be steamed out. Some of the smoke was probably all that penetrating oil you sprayed into the valve ports. Congratulations, may she live long enough to be passed on to your son, when you are ready to take the back seat of farming. A farmer doesn't really retire, as your father still proves by helping you guys out....
Success! I'm surprised you're not celebrating more but I guess that just shows the confidence you have in your work and knowledge. Way to go Wes and Tim!
very impressed for the scale of the rebuild and the number of replaced new parts you only have one or two problems (all of which you knew about). very good job.
Excellent job. It is such a good feeling to hear that engine roar to life, I had similar rebuild experiences. I am a little concerned about the water in the oil. I pray that the head is not cracked at the water jacket on the inside. I had that happen once it there was no way of knowing with out removing the head and doing a complete rebuild, so I opted to take a chance to my loss. Lets hope you have better luck than I did. It will be real cool to see it pulling a plow like all tractors seem to love to do. A good bottom plow would be the thing to see it stand on its legs again. Thanks again for the nice vids.
I know how you feel about this tractor I have a leyland 272 synchro and I wouldn't part for the world as I'm going to fit a turbo. thanks for the videos they cheer me up. I'm a farmer to in N.Ireland
Makes you want to do a rpeek happy dance. What a great feeling the first time you here it run after so much work. The more it runs the better it will get.
yeeehaaaa, well done Wes, she lives again. nice to see the deer running. did I notice a little smile there as she lit up and run, I had the same thing when my tw20 ran again after a transmission problem, nice feeling.
Good deal! She is running. Sounds good after 2 years of sitting. I wonder if you can just rebuild that valve assembly for the power steering. Was just wondering if it was like the hydraulic cylinders with o rings and what not. Anyway, Congrats to You and Tim on the fire up, I know you guys have worked your asses off. To hear it run I am sure makes both happy.
Well forget the bullshit some guys have to say. You've done something to be proud of. I relate this to my wife who built an engine and she was proud of her accomplishments as you should be. Take pride and keep up the good work.
I've been to busy to get on my computer for the last couple days, what a way to come back :D So happy for you, sounds great. Can't wait to see it moving :D
Good job guys. I'm wondering if that flutter won't calm down once you have a load on it. Not sure if you know it, or even need it but they do make a unit that can let you hook a timing light up to a diesel.
Awesome work man, she's lookin good, she's runnin good. Almost hard to believe that just a couple months ago it was just a burnt up hulk. Congrats buddy!
my other half told me I had to get a life because I cant wait for your next video so I said bollocks. keep them coming glad to see her running just a few adjustments and she will be sweet.
Hi Wes glad she runs, That timings sensitive down to the fraction of a C hair as you want to put it! What does the book say about spill timing the pump for timing setting?. splitting the hair might be even better running. At least She sounds better now than the bag of bolts in a Dryer, when first started before you adjusted the timing a bit. All I'll say about the burned valve block and hood coming off again is one word "Bummer", Nothing more needs to be said there L.O.L. Looking forward to the first drive. Regards Robert
Its runnin so thats pretty good. I couldn't see that valve but can't you take it off and take it apart and rebuild it as that would be cheaper, if its rebuildable. I was born cheap LOL Good job so far and good idea to replace the hyd. oil and filters, its cheap insurance. For a motor that's been outside for 2yrs condensation is normal and unaviodable. Take care you're doin well. Check the oil sender wire by disconecting it and touching it to earth with the ignition on. this will make the light work but you probably know this. That's if its one with a single wire. If that works replace the sender. It Lives. Yeah ! ! !
hi again, yeh she runs a bit lumpy at first and would say needs a tad more ajusting but thats me just listening on speakers and not there but good to see her alive again, just out of interest what would it have cost to replace her?thanks now to the next one
What did it look like when you looked in the radiator after shutting her down??? My JD 4240 and 4255's fuel tanks have a sump lower that the fuel line with a drain plug to remove dirt and condensations- how did the fuel weather the elements? Of course, those JD fuel tanks are sealed really well. However, bet she runs much better when you get fresh fuel in it. This new ,low sulfur, fuel formulation doesn't have a very long self life.
excuse my French for what am about to say wez what an amazing fucking job wez :) I would love to do something like like but I cant so I will just watch you instead :)
Good job Wes & Tim u cant beat the older deeres & the sound of the 7.6 motors

lot of work in a short amount of time, you really know your way around the machines huh? great vids man !
Sounds great!! Some of the metallic sound could be some air bubbles still in the injectors but will disappear.
Congratulations it sounds really great now and good to see that it's back up and running after that fire can't wait to see it rollout and get to work
I know how you feel about this tractor I have a leyland 272 synchro and I wouldn't part for the world as I'm going to fit a turbo. thanks for the videos they cheer me up. I'm a farmer to in N.Ireland
