(From Bulbapedia) About Dragon Ascent: "The Japanese name of this move literally means "to paint a dragon and dot its eyes" and serves as a metaphor for the finishing touch in a piece of work that gives it "the spark of life". The idiom originated from a legend where Zhang Sengyou, a Chinese painter, completes the dragons on a mural by dotting their eyes and thus literally bringing them to life; they spring out of the temple wall and fly off. The completed dragons immediately ascended to the heavens after the work was done."
Dragon Ascent is maybe symbolic of the fact that maybe a Dragon's defining moment is when they take flight? You see this a lot with Pokémon, especially with the Bagon line: a small dragon with no wings or the ability to fly, finally evolves into a "true dragon", soaring to the skies... "ascending into dragon-hood" if you will.
Fly in the "air magic"-category instead of in the "things that birds do"-category? Also Oblivion Wing in "things that birds do"? Are you sure this is fixed?
None of the pokemon that learn fly by leveling up are birds, and there are a lot of dragons, a couple bats and bugs, random deities, and a jet-propelled clay statue mixed in with the birds that learn it through an HM. While all bird pokemon can learn it through an HM, it could be argued that it's too generic of a flying thing to be in the "things that birds do" category for the same reason the flying type was too generic to be named bird type when the first games were released. For oblivion wing, I definitely agree with you. The only thing that can normally learn the move is a bird, but it isn't a very bird-like thing to do. The closest I can think of is vampire finches pecking larger birds until they bleed and drinking their blood, but that's only a survival technique used when actual food is too scarce and isn't exactly the same as a bird spreading its wings to fire a beam of energy that siphons life from anything it touches. I also don't think birds would normally hit things with their wings or throw their feathers. I'm pretty certain they mostly use their beaks and talons to fight. Wing attack is basically just a slap with a limb that specifically developed to have high air resistance (which causes a lot of the force of the attack to be wasted on pushing air), and I don't think they even have a good method to throw feathers after plucking them.
@@LordAziki flying is a too generic thing that birds do? Isn't that like.. the purpose of the category "things birds do"? Kamikaze attacks also involved flying low and charging in at max speed, min Alt
Dragon Ascent sends Rayquaza up to the ozone, and crashes down with the energy of every layer of the atmosphere. I honestly can't see how you missed that. You literally mention the ozone while describing Rayquaza.
10:54 I'm pretty sure Rayquaza actually smashes through a meteorite lockstien so the bits you see falling around it are parts of a space rock and dragon assent is technically different because Rayquaza goes into space so when it attacks with this move its again technically not falling and more propelling itself at the planet \[•π•]/ thats supposed to be a shrug
This man is slowly becoming a reddit channel with the hentai thumbnails
To be fair, he has always done hentai thumbnails.
@@TheNamelessOne888 he also did a video on Pokemon hentai
To be fair there's nothing hentai about this thumbnail.
Polocatfan still, he’s down this before, I’m just pointing it out now
You think that’s lewd? Seriously?
3:10 plus mirror move's Japanese name is parrot mimicry. why didn't the localization keep that name?
*Sees lockstin and gnoggin video posted 3 mins ago*
Ahh I'm early.
*Sees over 700 views*
What the frick
3:34 Or maybe because all those feathers distract the user, or they have to move through the feathers to get to the other pokemon.
BIRD UP, second chapter
Chatter is just Vicious Mockery but used by a bird
Chatot is a bard
ok so kenku bard got it
You guys remember when this channel made non pokemon stuff , I'm ok with how it is I just miss that stuff sometimes
Neat. I'd kinda like to see a vid about weird and unexplained (in universe anyway) Pokemon origins
Endertronic inc. like how most Pokémon origins aren’t explained. They only talk about their behavior most of the time the few exceptions are most ghost types, the ultra beasts, some legendaries, and Pokémon from space.
@@GODOFAWSOMENESS1 or like how voltorb and klink just kinda showed up one day or how klink gears get predetermined
Who remembers when this was uploaded half an hour ago
Me but why dat happened?
I sure do
Me
Lmao
Me I think
I've been thinking that with so many different kinds of Pokemon and moves added since Gen 1, maybe the Flying type could be broken up into a Wind/Air type and a Bird/Talon/Raptor type. There's plenty of Pokemon that seem to float or summon gusts of wind, but don't exactly fly, or look at all like birds. Like Koffing, Chimecho, Castform, Drifloon, and Cryogonal.
It’s better the second time!
Fun fact about gust
Even tho Gust changed its typing for some strange reason Razor Wind did not.
Because this move has a completely different meaning in japanese.
Also im quite sure pokemon forgot about this move since it is completely useless as it requires a setup turn like Solar beam but has no ways of triggering sooner or gives a boost like Skull bash does and it has only 80 base power... Has a increased crit ratio tho...
Tho it hits both sides like uhmmm Hypervoice.. ugh ugh
Move is 100% trash
I was wondering why the video seemed to vanish lol
I thought my phone was broken.
Yay, a video with working audio! Finally! Thanks Lockstin!
(just kidding, I really love your videos)

*_Q U A L I T Y C O N T E N T_*
You should name these caterogires in more fancying way like avian and aerial.
Every ghost move explained!
I love you
7:38 "& done by birds." 😁 I'm especially amused by this because Growlithe in the third generation could learn "Aerial Ace"
I'd like to know why the original was taken down.
Because some of the audio was broke so he fixed it
part of the audio was missing
Thanks for telling people about me bro, very cool. You simplified it a bit, but I'm cool with that.
Flying type moves be like:
Ima Y E E T myself to you very hards
That’s very accurate
Bonus point about Kojiro, he’s the namesake of James of team rocket in Japanese
This is going to be a long vid
7:09 Kojiro Sasaki is also the origin of James's name in japanese.
he is called ''Kojiro'' in japanese version.
Didnt see the other video, what happened that needed fixing?
Audio issue around the Beak Blast part.
@goldstorm07 thanks
1:55 You can hear him struggling not to laugh. Absolutely wonderful lol
What was wrong with the previous one? I missed it
There was an Audio Glitch
I love the background music!
Also, has Josh always been listed as Voltron? Somehow I've never looked at the end credit page before.
