  • In this video, I show you how I airbrush metallic paints on my miniatures. The McFarlane Necron Flayed One is a HUGE miniature and perfect example of why airbrushing is useful.
You can thin any regular hobby acrylic metallic paint for airbrushing, e.g., Citadel Leadbelcher. I almost always use water and I aim for a consistency of skim milk. Of course, for more realistic metal surface effects, I also use a variety of washes, shades, and weathering techniques. Here, I use a series of black inks and rust-colored paints sprayed through an airbrush to do this. You can use a regular brush, too, for any of the methods I show in the video.
As a bonus, I also go through my basic workflow for painting object source lighting (OSL) to paint the glowing eye effect.
I hope you enjoy this! Leave a comment and let me know what you think?

Beautiful result and super easy and succinct to follow. My "airbrush" Army Painter metallics instantly clogged, and the metallic acrylic inks I'd bought did the same (I generally have very good results from Liquitex), so I'll try this again with a few more layers of thinner. Thank you so much.

Ah, yes, the model air metallics? Those are lovely. I have several pots of leadbelcher leftover from a huge commission project I did a few years ago. So, I figured it'd be nice to make a video showing how I'm use them with the airbrush. But, def, if I had to do it all over again, model air metallics ftw! Thanks for the comment!!!
