- Hello everyone!
Little bit of a different video today, talking about some of the not-so-fun aspects of painting minis.
Hopefully I’ll have a full paint with me up this week as well.
Take care!

When what you do for fun starts to feel like a chore then it’s perfectly fine to take a break.
Very true
You speak with such realism and your paint job reflects that. I do not know which algorithm gods brought me here but I'm glad i watched.
Thank you so much for your kind words! Folks like you keep me painting💜
so I just started miniature painting and I already sort of knew what you're saying but it is great to actually hear it from someone so thank you and I can't wait to see more videos from you
Thank you so much!
As I started watching the video had 263 likes and you had 263 subscribers
I support this line of thought expressed here so I liked the video, breaking the balance
Had to look more into your stuff and decided to subscribe 😄
Thank you so much!
Hi, so nice to see someone in the space not focused on Games Workshop. I'll be watching your progress.
Reminds me of a figure I painted 3 times till I got something I was okay with.
Also had to learn to take my time. I just hate letting stuff sit there unfinished so I often rushed stuff. Now I am starting to get more relaxed but still there is this urge to get things done.
If you're interested in other media, I highly recommend either watercolor or sumi-e ink painting. Those were two of my mediums before painting minis, and it quickly breaks you of rushing or forcing anything. I am now very thankful for all of my failed paintings from past.
@@BundoksCavern Finaly buying a wet pallet and scheduling my paint sessions is what helps me.
I now know that things will get done over time and that I don't have to worry.
Also made room for a showcase and when in doubt, just walk over and admire my work, knowing that I will get things done.
Your statement of keeping laboring fun is so important.if you make it a job it will kill the hobby for you
I totally agree with painting for fun. I forced myself to paint the 30 unpainted miniatures I had and didn't paint again for over a year. Since the. I have made sure to only get one miniature or terrain at a time to paint. About to tackle a large castle once it gets here.
You’ll have to let us know how it goes; I hope you enjoy it! Terrain is always a good time.
Great tips here! I always remind people we are here to have fun! We are always learning in this hobby, which is great. Practice make progress and we improve with each mini we paint.
I always say to aim for progress, not perfection, and to keep in mind that everything can be a learning opportunity. And above all have fun!!
@@BundoksCavern yes! So many people forgot that they got into this hobby to have fun. If you see yourself improving along the way, great!
I needed this video. Thank you, and subscribed. 👌🏽
You’re so welcome! And welcome to the Cavern! 💜
Hawk bear! Hell yeah! Give him a slamming swoop attack from the treetop and some extra HP and he's a monster ready to slaughter some adventurers!
You have a very smooth and comfortable way of expressing your ideas that is easy to listen to. I agree with everything you're saying about mini painting fun (well, except for stripping a mini and starting over). I've NEVER had a mini painting session go the way I pictured it in my mind, but I still find myself enjoying the process. Thanks for the great video!
Thank you for the kind words!
I'm not great at it at all but have been doing it as a creative outlet for about three months. Have been writing an undead based campaign based a lot on resident evil for fun so I've been painting miniatures based on the creatures in it. Hoping to playtest it soon and see what friends think of it.
That’s awesome! I hope your players love your work 💜
@@BundoksCavern thank you so much!
Love this, liked & subscribed for the relatability / honesty! Echo lots of people here, enjoyment is key! One of my recent realisations / quandaries is balancing the set up time against painting for too long in one session and getting worse over time and it becoming a chore!
Those reaper HD paint are awesome they are the equal to old GW foundation paints. and you are right painting should be fun and paint what you like it makes it even more fun painting what you like
I’m a sucker for the reaper paints for sure
Great video and advice I absolutely agree, paint what you like to paint! The imagination of creation coincide better to things that inspire you. I found that during some of my figure painting I didn't like where some were looking and almost set them in a drawer but instead, I weathered through what I call "the ugly duckling stage" and it gets easier when you return to it later with a fresh mind. Don't be discouraged by your ugly duckling stage just keep at it and you will see the effort is well worth it! I hope you continue your journey, thank you! ❤ ✌️
Thank you for your support and kindness!!
Great video! I am on a similar journey, started painting a few months ago, got much better, but once in a while I make something bad or a mistake and can esily become my own worst critic. Taking a step back and enjoying the process is key, as Bob Ross said, only happy little mistakes! Everything is salvageable and more often than not, you are the only one who knows what went wrong. Also I often end up learning more from my mistakes and tend to not repeat them, building up my experience.
Thanks for sharing!
Glad you enjoyed! I certainly get in my head about errors a lot but my players almost never say anything and are just pleased to have minis that aren’t grey on the table. Keep painting and enjoy the journey!
My tip is, you rarely need to strip the paint. Just prime over it and get right back into it. I always lose motivation/interest when I chuck a mini in the LA's Totally Awesome, but I've never lost interest when I spray primed and was feeling stubborn to try again the next night.
I’ve only had to do a full paint strip once when after the re-prime a lot of detail was lost.
Yeah you're right, painting don't have to be a chore.
honest and i subscribed
Thank you!
maybe I was a bit too blunt.
basically, you created something and should be proud of your accomplishment.
Not too blunt at all, your message came across as intended!
A very niche and semantics thing, but if folks are used to Nolzurs and the like just be aware that Warhammer minis will generally need some other supplies to clean and assemble them. But otherwise yes agree with everything you said!
Yup! I’ve done quite a few assembly pieces for folks. Hopefully they also keep in mind they’re sometimes easier to paint BEFORE putting together. (I learned that one the hard way haha.)
Good video and good attitude, well worth a sub :)
Thank you so much!
lol god feel this whole vid
Fantastic advice , fantastic mentality, and fantastic video. It's okay to roll a 1. Comment for the comment gods!
Thank you for the kind words!
Great video- made me subscribe
Awesome, thank you!
Nice video.
Thank you so much for the recent comments and kind words!
Form the 40k universe here, if you want to up your painting, watch Warhammer painting videos. there are so much easy tricks you can do to make your minis look much better without having even any skill. would say it is worth a look
I’ve looked into a few and have painted some warhammer in the past. I think my largest preference for those versus the dnd minis is the ability to get some solid coating on before assembly. Thanks for the comment!
@@BundoksCavernUhh that's kind of a faux pas in the Warhammer sphere, only a minority does that, as when you then assemble you have blank spots from where the part was still in the sprue (if that is what you mean). But what is common is partyl assembly to have it easier with painting. What I meant was more refined techniques and possibly more easy to manage tricks, as compared to DnD we warhammer players paint a few more minis :D
@@LordBelakor yeah partly assemble or pieced off of the sprue is what I meant (apologies if that wasn’t transparent). But I’m quite alright with learning how I learn. I’ve watched some tutorials but not loads since I’m more of a tactile learner. Thanks though!
decades of painting for tabletop use.
YOU are your own worst critic. this is because you are the one that spent the time to apply the paint and observed first hand the things that did or didn't work. you are the one that is aware of any 'mistakes'.
others will have an opinion, but don't have a clue about 'your' experience bringing color to a colorless object.
and, unless you are a top tier Painter that enters and wins competitions, this is about YOUR enjoyment - not the appeasement of others biased opinions.
Was that a Fuzzy Wall price tag? The algorithm brought me here assuming you are from Central PA somewhere like I am. Will follow your painting journey.
Haha it may have been! I pick up from Fuzzy Wall and The Adventurer’s Guild
@BundoksCavern Yeah I live about 15 mins from AG. Lol. I go to Lazarus and Comic Store West also. For most DnD minis I order off Gnomish Bazaar. Haven't found anyone who can beat their prices. Although I don't buy many Wizkid Minis anymore. Mostly Reaper and Dungeons and Lasers.
