I just began doing airbrush and I discouraged with metallic paint. I don't know what reducer I should use. I tried Reducer 4012, distilled water, alcool and no good resultes. Lowing the pressure, rising the pressure but get shitty result. Thinking that woth metallic paint I have to prime or sand it to see if it will stick but not happy with that too. Whit the regular paint, I also have difficuties, probably Dollar Store cheap paint. Some time a want to throw everting in the garbage and maybe it is not for me. For the metallic, what reducer and what pressure if it is different from the regular paint.
This series is the best advice I've ever seen for airbrushing. I've wanted to airbrush for about 5 years but never had the guts. Ordered my first set the other day. Just wanted to say that I really appreciate what you're doing 👍
Jay, have you ever used Alclad2 paints? My .02 is that hands down they are the most amazing paint for metallics. It's a lacquer based paint so warning around that.
Been having that exact problem when painting metallic Valeho paint. I get a choppy application. I basically cant spray an ultra thin coat--- Its becomes all or nothing out of the airbrush. Pulling back the trigger slowly more and more nothing coming out but air--- then boom! all the paint at once. Any help is appreciated-- diluted with 100% isopropyl alcholol. Seems like I'm getting a build-up of dried flakes in the nozzle. I always end up having to clean the nozzle extensively
If I'm airbrushing metallic paints I use lacquer or enamel paints over a lacquer black gloss coat. Mr. Hobby stuff works great but you definitely need an airbrush booth and a mask (or respirator if possible). If I don't care about the sheen, like something I'm just gonna flood with black ink, I just use Vallejo Air metallics over a matte black coat.
Great video! Thanks for this. I've tried one time and it didn't work out very well. You gave me hope to try again. I do have one question though. What needle size did you use in your brush?

What PSI did you for this tutorial?
Hey Jay, I primed a Battlewagon white. What possible issues might I have is I airbrush the Aluminum (Valejo) over it? Should I just reprime it black?

I'm new to using my airbrushes and I already 'hate' metallic paints lol... My Airbrush just gets blocked!!!

Would a wider nozzle help with metallic paints? What do you use?

Thank you for this information. I haven't got to the point of using metallic paint but this will definitely be useful for when I do.
Do you have a link for that glaze medium?
