    That was awesome! Thank you so much for posting this video!
    I have been searching for this video for better than 2 years now. I bought a 2001 Jetta TDI that already had an automatic to 5 speed swap and I have never has cruse or reverse lights. Not having to push the clutch in to start it does not bother me, but I have had a phantom slow parasitic drain this whole time. Looking forward to opening her up and setting her straight. Thanks again, subbed and thumbs up.

    That wiring instruction, pretty good! Thanks! im swapping an 02j to a 1.8T on a Beetle, and everything makes sense, and right, its pretty straightforward, thank you very much!!!!

    Im so glad I found these vidoes because it made my swap a lot easier to accomplish. I took the car out for a drive tonight after getting it all the way back together and it worked as if it has always had a manual transmission.....thank you for sharing your knowledge

    I got a donor car. Swapped in all the actual components, that was easy enough. Will be wiring today. Thanks for taking the time to make these videos. I'm gonna try to use the donor cars underhood to PCM harness to cover that part. Ill check back later to either report good news or to look for where I went wrong.

    I’m doing this swap and I have a 2004 1.8t auto with the 09a. Pin 39 is already taken with a white w red stripe wire. Its not going back to the TCU. Any idea why that is or what I should do next?

      Yeah follow a swap for a 09a not a 01m

    2002 Beetle gls 1.8T 01m to o2j swap. There is no wire (even on the wiring diagram) for pin 13 at the tcu to ecm pin 19. No pin 19 physically at the ecm connector nor pin 13 at the tcm connector. I see a pin 12 on the diagram (i looked for a 2002 jetta as well, still no pin 13 or 19) pin 12 leads to pin 41 on the ecm. Does this still apply to swapping to pin 66?

      Yes any of the connections from the TCU to ECU (ECM) can be used to make that circuit. Since the TCU will no longer be used/powered, you can take any of those circuits BUT! Sometimes there is a “T” that takes that signal somewhere else for example there is often a ABS to TCU to ECU 3 way and if you remove that TCU to ECU leg, you disable the ABS to ECU leg.

    Hypothetically could I skip all the wiring if I don’t care to have cruise control and reverse lights and whatnot? Will the car function otherwise?

    • @hestermannmotorwerks
      @hestermannmotorwerks  24 วันที่ผ่านมา

      If you reprogram the ECU to be manual, I think it will still run ok but technically not legal to not have backup up lights. Clutch safety switch can be important too

    Great write up! So I followed everything exactly and used the multimeter to double check everything. I have a 2.0aeg from a 2001 golf. Everything works but the car won’t start. Clutch pedal works and starter engages but the car won’t allow spark. I am getting fuel but no spark what could be the issue?

    • @hestermannmotorwerks
      @hestermannmotorwerks  ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven't had that issue before so I'm not 100% but did you get the ECU reprogrammed for the manual?

    • @hestermannmotorwerks
      @hestermannmotorwerks  ปีที่แล้ว

      If it fires briefly then cuts out after 3 seconds then the issue is with the immobilizer

    I just did the swap on a 2000 Beetle Alh. Excellent job talking through all of the wiring for this swap. The car drives, cruise control works, however, my tach does not. Do you have any direction to point me into or know what i may have done wrong?

    • @hestermannmotorwerks
      @hestermannmotorwerks  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thats a new one to me. Not sure what you got going on. If you have a manual, look at the wiring diagram to trace the tach wiring. Sorry to hear of your issue

    Hi, I'm in the process of swapping a manual trans in my 2004 BEW wagon, I followed everything in your video, but I ran into an issue with the ecu wiring. My ecu is EDC16 and the pinout doesnt match the diagram. I already have a black wire connected on pin 43 on the ECU (the passenger side connector with 60 pins)
    Any idea?

    • @hestermannmotorwerks
      @hestermannmotorwerks  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is the wrong connector. Use the big 121 pin connector

      Thanks! yep already figured it out, car is running. no cruise control at the moment, but i'm sure i can figure it out@@hestermannmotorwerks

    I need help! I’ve been trying to fire my swap up and it has just been a nightmare. I have all of the circuits ran correctly everything works, (cluster, reverse lights, door lights, ect) except for the starter? I haven’t messed with any of the starter wiring and I just can’t figure it out. My relay 100 is also clicking when I try to crank the car. Please if you have any help it would be a great help! Appreciate it

    • @hestermannmotorwerks
      @hestermannmotorwerks  ปีที่แล้ว

      The 100 relay is your load reduction relay so it should be flipping when you try to crank the engine. I really can’t troubleshoot for you remotely but here is a few things I would check/try
      1) 53 relay is good and plugged in correctly
      2) grey/white clutch switch works, is plugged in correctly and the plunger gets pushed in when you push the clutch all the way in
      3) try bypassing the clutch switch by wiring the two leads together, see if engine will turn over

    Bonjour, j’ai commencé mon swap avant de regarder votre vidéo, j’ai swap et toute la partie faisceau moteur d’une voiture manuelle, la voiture ne démarré quand même pas donc j’ai mis le relais 53 et elle démarre. Par contre je n’ai pas de feu de recul pas de vitesse kilomètres heure est mon voyant d’huile allumée alors que j’ai de l’huile !
    Est-ce que en faisant votre manipulations, tout rentrera dans l’ordre ? Excusez-moi, je suis français et je parle très mal anglais

    • @hestermannmotorwerks
      @hestermannmotorwerks  ปีที่แล้ว

      well it will help to do the wiring but my schematic(diagram) won't be 100% accurate because the engine bay harness is now different. You will have to figure out a few things for wires to the reverse light switch on the front of the transmission and for the speed sensor (VSS)

    Is the check engine light on for no communication between the tcu and ecu?

    • @hesty32
      @hesty32 ปีที่แล้ว

      No that doesn’t trigger a CEL. It will show as an error code but it won’t trip a CEL. Did you scan it to see what errors codes are active?

    good day, i've got a mk4 golf wagon with a 1.6 bfq engine which had a 01m auto transmission, it does not have cruise control. i did a manual swap to a 02k (rod type gearbox) but it isn't starting (not even turning over). do i have to do this same wiring and will it work?

    • @hestermannmotorwerks
      @hestermannmotorwerks  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’m sorry but I’m not familiar with the BFQ. It’s not even listed in my manual. I think it’s probably the relay but not 100% sure. You could try hooking pin 4 up to a ground and putting the 53 relay in temporarily and see if that lets it turn over. Sounds like that is the issue

    • @fwdsmatter1117
      @fwdsmatter1117 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@hestermannmotorwerks can i just use a regular 4 pin relay? i would have to order a 53 relay where im from

    • @hestermannmotorwerks
      @hestermannmotorwerks  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think a normal one will work but it needs to be a 12v 40 amp relay

      @@hestermannmotorwerks so the advice you gave worked and I've got the car to start and drive put its running poorly. i think its because the vss still has to be wired in? which pin is the signal to the vss in the bfq ecu (although i know u mentioned your not familiar with the bfq) should i just follow what you did in your other swap vid to wire in the vss? plus this 01m seems to have more than one vss..this part has me confused
