I'm really glad to finally see this project come into fruition! Hopefully one day I'll be able to afford shoving an 8HP into my E34! Thanks a lot for the entertainment, Pazi!
the manual gearbox is for fun and lower costs but the 8hp has several important advantages: very quick shifts, optimized engagement of clutches, optimized rev matching, over-rev protection, smooth start off possibly other benefits
Self holding phase in MS42/43/45s is meant to give the ECU enough time to store adaptation values to the EEPROM when the engine is turned off. Note: Increasing the timer also means you have to wait longer when flashing the ECU since it will stay awake longer. Edit: BMW puts the transmission in between the shifter (which is terminated) and the rest of the PT CAN. Thanks for the insights once again! Oh I didn't know that about the original wiring. I did it little bit differently so that the shifter has two pairs of the CAN wires and one of those goes to the trans and it's terminated there (now 😅),

Not my E30 at least 😅 As awesome as this 8HP swap is, I don't think it will fit the feel of my E30. I really like it being the oldschool manual. Petri's E30 might get 8HP/DCT to make it faster on 1/4 mile. But no guarantee.
I am hoping to be one of the first to stick an 8hp in an Escort Cosworth, also in Finland. Apart from getting the car up and running, I only need a transmission crossmember sorted out.
Good Job ! 🕹 well done 5 stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐, you are a legend , I wish I could do it to my e36 euro 3.2 l m3 greetings from Australia . I'd need some local information.
Amazing work! I would also like to swap an 8hp45 on a stock m52b28 single vanos ms41.what type of converter do you think would be more suitable.diesel or gasoline?
Thanks! I was bit surprised too, how well this turned out 😃 I don't have any good results of the fuel consumption. It seems to consume roughly 12.5 liters of E85 per 100km. But that includes lot of tuning and pulls, so it's not very comparable result.
Amazing man!!Amaizing job! My deep respect to you I going installing 8Hp to my e34 540i let’s do this! The first step is the most difficult😁 One question. I can’t find electric circuits like on your table? Where I can download them??
The wiring diagrams are on canformance wiki. On the installation section. Like the one for the 1st gen 8hp that I used: wiki.canformance.net/lib/exe/fetch.php?media=cantcu:cantcu_8hp_wiring_v15.pdf
Well, cantcu is the perfect choise for street car because of the use of original tcu in the transmission. It gives oem driveability which is must for nice to drive street car. But it also work for track, drag racing etc. very well. Especially with the better OEM+ flash and proper manual mode. It's also very easy to install. But once you start to need trans-brake for spooling big turbo in drag racing or virtual clutch for drifting (though why run auto for that, when manual is better), then turbolamik becomes the better choice. It's of course a lot more difficult to install and requires tuning to get working nicely. So not really worth the hassle if you don't need the extra features it offers.
Main thing is the cost. At least currently, you can get like 4 to 6 of these N55 8HP transmissions for the price of one N54 DCT transmission 😅 The DCT is also heavier, so because the power handling of the 8hp45 isn't problem in this project, it's better to use that weight wise too.
@@pazi88 Price-wise I understand. But I didn't know it had weight advantage too.Suddenly DCT doesn't seem that much cooler to me,especially when the performance of the auto with good settings looks close enough. Thanks for the info.
@@pazi88 I've now made it to the end of the video, where I can see actual driving, and I'm sold. I'm going parts hunting because it's just behaving perfectly.

Not sure how good or bad it is fir transmission to slip into gear but it sure looks like engine can take a good "breath" when pulling WOT. Probably something that was leftover for big turbo engine.
not my personal choice 😁going auto in the e36 but really well done! When can we hear more about how the engine is doing? Are you going to a dyno when the real exhaust is done? I am guessing theres a bunch of power to be had on your setup going from the b20/b25 exhaust to a b28 or m3 size...
Well yeah, I wanted to do something different and I'm not regretting it. Quite opposite. This is now so much nicer to drive than my e30 😅 The 1st revision of the exhaust is now done, and it's just straight 3" cat-less exhaust with tiny resonator modified rear muffler. It's twice the the size as the old, but I don't really see the effect on the logs, so it's not much that it actually affects. Mostly it's the sound and I'm loving it now. You can actually hear that in the highway pulls, but it doesn't sound much on the video. In reality it's like really like S54 screaming.
