This is such an important scene in the movie, it shows that restaurants don't have to rely on harmful chemicals to make their food taste better, just good honest recipes with real ingredients!
If you pause at 4:03 you can see roughly all the ingredients for Ed's sauce. Ketchup, lemon juice, mustard, pickle juice, vinegar, dried pepper flakes. I think to get that orange color there's also mayonnaise in the recipe. Some people say that Ed's sauce is the same as Burger King's zesty sauce. If it was the same as zesty sauce, there would also be horseradish sauce in the recipe.
Technically if you ask me it would have been fair for them to split the profits 50/50. Then again they should have also been making at least a quarter for every burger they sold instead of 10 cents
That was only $52, really not that much all things considered. Still,10 cents for every burger sold, that’s 650 good burgers sold, that’s making bank. Who’s the owner of Good Burger anyway? Now I don’t condone the fact that Dexter took advantage of Ed’s naivety, but to be fair, it was partially Ed’s fault that Dexter was in the situation in the first place. Dexter was also to blame because he shouldn’t have been driving in the first place, and he really should have been driving slower in the area given that it was a residential area, but Ed wasn’t adhering to safety standards when he was making that delivery. Though, to be fair, it could have been a twist of fate. After all, if Dexter hadn’t been working for Good Burger, he wouldn’t have tasted Ed’s sauce and the sauce wouldn’t have been passed around by the coworkers and Mr. Bailey, they wouldn’t have considered using it for the Good Burgers and Mondo Burger would have likely never closed down. Also, while it might be scummy for Dexter to take advantage of Ed, he was just trying to make as much money as possible to pay off his debt to his teacher and his mother. The money wasn’t even for himself, he was already in hot water for driving his mother’s car without permission or a license. Admittedly, what Monique said was true about him taking advantage of Ed, but the situation was somewhat complicated. Maybe Dexter should have gone for 60/40 with him getting the 40%, he still would have made a profit and likely would have been able to pay back his teacher while still paying for the damages to his mom’s car. Actually, if he had done it the right way, he could have had a good head start with paying for college.
To be fair there are a lot of good diners and drive-ins with this type of food. Ask around your area and you'll probably find something. As for the special sauce its probably something like McDonald's Big Mac sauce.
Looks like some of the ingredients are: lemon juice, dill pickles, whole onions, ketchup, milk powder, mustard powder, salt, chilli flakes and bbq sauce. (But I'm not sure what the the small container is on the table at 4:11 to the right of the pot next to the pickles.)
The interesting thing about a sauce like that is in real life it's basically ketchup with mayo judging by the color of it. But according to the ingredients listed in the movie (funny scene) in real life you'd have to use red food coloring to make it that interesting pinkish orangish color.
