Nice video! I've got a 1G 1990 Mitsubishi Eclipse that I bought back in 1992, it has only 26k miles on it, it's gold metalliic and I did a tri-coat by spraying a gold and white pearl clear as a mid coat before final clear and flow coating. I also sprayed the roof metallic black. I bought it totaled out before title branding laws came into effect so it has a clean title. I replaced both quarter panels, both doors, hood with the power bulge, drivers front fender and upper inner structure rail that the fender mounts to along with left front suspension and rear trailing axle because those were also damaged in the accident. It came with a full body kit and wing but it wasn't cheap fiberglass, it's not completely urethane but more like a mixer of urethane with fiberglass infused in it so a very quality kit. The side cladding of the kit comes all the way up to the center of the doors where the side mouldings are. The car started out as a base model so when I replaced the doors I upgraded them with factory power windows, locks and mirror doors, added rear wiper, center console and the cover behind the rear seats. I've owned a collision shop (frame, body and paint shop) for close to 25 years now so body work, air bags and most mechanical work isn't a problem for me. I have the knowledge to rebuild a motor to stock, but when it comes to engine and transmisson 'building' for high horsepower I struggle. I did dabble in turbos a little when customers wanted bigger intercoolers, blow off valves and various bolt on upgrades but focused on doing body kits and headlight/taillight conversions customers requested. I did a Honda S2000 tailight along with Acura CL headlight conversion on a 1998 Acura Integra and 240sx headlights along with Supra taillights on a 2G integra which I got first place in the Acura division at a NOPI car show in Chicago to name a few. But my business for the most part was insurance collision repair. I don't know if it's from all the chemicals I was exposed to doing body work, but just in the last 7 years I've lost 95% of the small surface nerves in my feet, legs and hands and so I'm now disabled forcing me to retire early.
The main reason I'm contacting you is to see if you know of anyone doing a 1.8L to 2.0 turbo conversion? When my 1990 1G Eclipse was at my shop someone vandalized it by putting some foreign substance in the gas tank and I think they took a drill with a small drill bit and ran it between the block and the head. I haven't pulled the head yet to look, the block might be okay since its steel but the head is more likely damage. The car has been stored in doors all these years since that happened.
And if I need to do all that i'm thinking of buying a low mileage 2.0L turbo engine, freshen it up and do a conversion. I'm not looking to make crazy power, maybe a step up from stock.
My car is a 5spd manual, do you know if the transmissions are the same? What about axels, brackets on the front rails for the motor mounts the same/
And as far as the engine computer goes, I assume I'll need the 2.0L turbo ecu but will I need the 2.0T wiring harness inside the car? The engine wiring harness should come with the used engine.
Your stand alone AEM ecu that you have on the passenger floor, does the factory wiring harness plug right into it?
I'm only looking at keeping it FWD, unless I come across a AWD donor car to harvest a salvagable drivetrain to rebuild and to cut all the weld on mounting brackets from.
I'm never going to sell it, not after owning it all these years and the work I've already done to it.
Any information and direction you can give me I'd greatly appreciate it.
Thanks brother, keep up the good work!

    • @meaningfulgarage4025
      @meaningfulgarage4025  ปีที่แล้ว

Thanks for watching. Switching from a 1.8 to 2.0 isn't an easy swap. Wire harness ecu are completely different. Going from non turbo to turbo flywheels are different sizes. I would honestly get a donor 1.8 and put it back to running first. Then do modifications after it's running right. And if you decide you want something with more power. You can find a TSI awd on Facebook marketplace. They do pop up from time to time. That is the route I would do. Because the money and time you put into it can get out of control. Hopefully, that can help you make a decision.

I have a 90 tsi (stock oil cooler, no abs, no air bags, no ac, no power steering) with dsmlink v2, upgraded to the dual piston calipers off of a 3000gt N/A, 16g turbo @ 20 psi, FP exhaust manifold, JMF intake, drop engineering motor mounts (I actually ordered replacement bushings from their website, they shipped out, and then the website shut down lmao.. may have got the last set they had left) for some reason the previous owner swapped to the 93-94 rear tail lights and bumper but it still has the 1GA front end. The holy grail part is the manual steering rack, not a de-powered power steering rack but a legit manual rack off of a base base model.
I'm torn on the car though because the 90s have a few variations to the 91-94 cars which make it not quite as nice to modify in the way I want. Pop up headlights are the only way to go, 1GB cars don't look as good imo. Which means a 1991 DSM is the best year you can buy, as it has a 6 bolt motor 100%, has pop-up headlights, and basically any aftermarket 1G DSM part will fit on it without issues, as opposed to an 89-90 car.
Badass car dude, I bet it RIPS

Everyone got the 2Gs in their balls when the 1Gs are betta(yeah cosmetically the 2G are a lil betta looking but they way overrated). Personally love the fact the 1Gs look more 80s than 90s n are super rare compared to the other gens. N yes that inside cockpit still looks futuristic 3 decades later.

Pure fucking sex on 4 wheels! I couldn't tell if that was my heartbeat or part of the music. Lol. I built my first car in 96'... A 1ga awd talon. It felt like a cockpit. Opening the door and closing it having the seat belt come across automatically. It was the thrifting kind of mindset. The first fmic and exhaust was homemade. I took 4 stock sidemounts that I welded together. The exhaust I made with scrap 3" tig welded joints from a semi junkyard. It worked well so I did the same with building the intake. Clutch, flywheel, brakes, manifold, gutted TB, injectors, fuel lines (tuned with an apexi). Bigger turbo, again from the scrap yard off of a totaled truck with less than 10k on it. I don't remember the specs on it. I ripped the interior, I pulled the AC/heater(I live in FL, 1st degree swamp ass by 8am, lol), I stripped the engine bay of everything I could taking a page from what my buddies were doing with muscle. The only luxury I kept was power steering.
This was all in my junior year high school through senior year.
I had it through college. I sold it in 00'. After fast and furious came out there were no shortage of kids paying stupid money their parents made for a fast car.
Just seeing the car brought back awesome memories. It's a beautiful car. Thanks for sharing it bro! Good luck. 9s can be done like you said, if it's done right with that endstate being a focus through the build.
