    I just got my 550/3300kv from Hobbywing. To replace the 540/2300kv that came in my ‘Gen8 Axe’. Geared it down from 17T to 12T pinion & I love it! Even with throttle matching turned to low, there’s not many obstacles that’ll stop it from crawling slow! So much torque!!! The motor is a beast! Even gearing it down it still keeps up with my TRX in high gear. Not only would I recommend an AXE FOC combo for a crawler? I’d go as far as saying: I wasn’t really crawling till I had one! 👍👌🤘
    If you don’t want to spend the dough on a sensord system for your crawler? Then stay brushed and get a hobbywing 1080 ESC!

    I put this system in my TRX-4 Bronco with an 11 tooth pinion. The truck can crawl very slow and still has enough punch to drag the back bumper if there is sufficient traction. The auto drag brake is very effective, I highly recommend using this setting.

      Dan Muhs I have the Bronco with the 550 3300k, do you recommend the 11 tooth or a different one? I’ll mostly be crawling with little trail driving.

    I just put a similar Brushless Mamba X Crawler combo in a TRX Sport Kit. Lots of control ,and it rips when you want it to. Curious to see how this one compares, and might give it a go on my next build. Thanks for the great review!

      Good choice! Put that on a 2 speed or gear it high since it has tons of torque but not super fast rpm.

    Enjoying the channel and always tune in to see what's up..
    Had my capra out again today(2nd run) and really like the Axe system, auto drag brake is amazing, Nice smooth deceleration and no more endo's when giving it a little blast, and then back to full blown superior hill hold on the rocks. Certainly won't stop me purchasing HW 1080's and brushed motors but nice to have one.
    Hobbywing definitely need to revisit the sensor cable plug for easier mounting and install configuration in tight places like Capra.
    Cheers mate 👍

    It'll be great to have a comparison between the 2700RPM/Volt version with the higher torque and the 3300RPM/Volt version with the higher top end RPM. I suppose the only difference to be realistically seen will be the top end speed difference though with them both having more than enough torque...

    • @RCReviewChannel
      @RCReviewChannel  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, we have both and it's pretty hard to tell the difference. They both have more than enough torque. The 3300kv spins a little faster. But Axe motors in general don't spin that fast. Maybe 30k rpm when castle motors go above 45k rpm.

    OK I’m going to order one of these systems but I don’t know whether to get the 3300 or the 2700. I have a sport kit with the tracks obviously I will not be running these all the time but for some TH-cam videos I would like to have them on sometime I know these gear way down and you have to run the truck almost full throttle to be at walking speed this is why I want to do a brushless system I know a lot of people with the heavier trucks run to 2700 with this be the best choice for this truck I figured it would give me a little more torque maybe allow me to run a little bit bigger opinion but I’ll probably run The one it comes with but I figure with those tracks it’s geared so low that might be a better choice but what’s your opinion

  • @SebastianLong

    I bought myself the 550 Axe combo very recently. I just got it in the mail like 3 days ago. The motor in my TRX4 Bronco is starting to do some glitching and ive been wanting the axe system since I first seen it. I bought the 3300 kv system but have no intention of using it for speed. Heck I rarely ever put my TRX4 in high range. I'm looking forward to getting it installed and getting rid of the brushed system currently in it. If I want to go faster, I would use my Summit. Faster still I've got 9 others to pick from. Probably my fastest surface RC is my Super Rock Rey, unless you put my boat in race. My TRX4 is by far my slowest and I'm not planning on changing that. My crawler is 100% a crawler. Ive got an RC for every niche except road car (but that will probably be filled this year) and a 1/5th scale (which will also probably be filled this year). I want an XO-1 and the Losi 5T and those are planned for this year. After that, a few more planes and I should be done.

    Just ordered 550 3300kv Axe for my new element build! What pinion should I get for low speed and top speed fun? I have x3 mamba X, revolver and puller pro. So trying out axe. Want a crawler / basher that can get wet. The downside for me is weight vs hh/castle stuff 360g vs 320g.

    • @RCReviewChannel

    • @Private_Snowball
      @Private_Snowball 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      RC Review so what gear ratio do you like and rpm speed? I was thinking of keeping it around 8-9k rpm. 23t pinion on stock 87t spur on 3s is around 9777rpm. I am going to swap out 48p for 32p because of 5mm bore, the pinion at 32p look much better. Then if I run a 56t spur and 15t pinion I should have 9908rpm. But i see lots if people gear way down with HH motors. To the 3-4krpm. Thats to slow for me. I think trick like you said with Axe is gear up. 8-10k rpm prob perfect for trail truck.

  • @trailcrawler2038
    @trailcrawler2038 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I'm not sure of the purpose of the adjustable drag brake. With the Axe system, with the holding feature and the slow crawling feature, you can just "barely" touch the throttle and modulate drag brake as you need it. I do think you really need to use something other than stock radio to get better control over the throw of the throttle. It almost feels like the stock TQi radio has 8bit resolution where other (better) radios start at 16bit and go up. Unfortunately, none publish the resolution of the throttle sensor... so you basically have to try the TQi first and then upgrade the radio (without touching anything else) and then try it again to easily see the difference (regardless of what motor/esc you put in).

    • @RCReviewChannel
      @RCReviewChannel  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      we explain the purpose of the Auto Drag Brake feature here. th-cam.com/video/vmvbFzpHsIE/w-d-xo.html It is for massive drag brake for hill holds and gradual drag brake for high speed trail running, all on the same setting.

    I just bot the trx6 and ordered the hobbywing axe 550 3300kv combo. Will the same pinion from the stock traxxas 550 motor fit the hobbywing axe 550 ? If no what pinion is recommended for trail and crawling combo.

    • @ConditionZero76
      @ConditionZero76 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, I believe the Trx6 runs the same factory Titan 21T with a 3mm shaft as the trx4.. The Axe 550 has a 5 mm shaft, so you'll need a completely different pinion all together because the shaft size is larger 👍🏼

      It's not advisable. The drivetrain simply is not strong enough for something with this much power. Aside from the acceleration, the real big problem is the braking. The force comes from the wheels and the helical gears will get stripped with the power of tis motor and the weight of the vehicle when force is coming from the wheels, braking from high speed.

    • @rcPYROone
      @rcPYROone 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      More programming options with the castle link. Adjusting the throttle curve with your computer lets optimizes very slow startup. Much slower than the axe system. The revolver motor is made for absolute torq and ultra slow startup speed. You will love it!!!! With the revolver Set timing to 0, set start power to Hi, and you will see what I’m saying. It is a louder system but the performance makes up for it!

    • @rcPYROone
      @rcPYROone 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      On the throttle curve, at 60% throttle set the power output to 20%. That helps it to make the throttle output much less sensitive meaning even more controlled startup

      A Google User that doesn't matter really if the product is too expensive for the market and there is very little buying power. What that only means is bad strategy. You need to understand this is for hobby market, not many people will drop 200-300 USD on motor ESC combo especially when they can get 1080 and trail master for $60 that does the same thing but it's not that fency 😂
