I have a 2017 Monster 821 and my check engine light is flashing. Pulled the DTC's and found P0460 for fuel level sensor short to ground. I was contemplating selling it but now second guessing it. Thank you for this amazing video!
Hi there, check the description below, I have created a file containing all the parts, perhaps you can find someone local who can help you making them. Cheers!
Great video ! Thank you ! Next time the fuel sender fails I will try this repair. You should also look in to APS ( throttle control ) on Multistrada. It fails quite often and I am sure it has some design flaw. Tried opening one, it has a potentiometer inside, I don’t understand electronics but tried cleaning it but that didn’t help. Finally had to replace the sensor.
@@Mr.BadMechanic could be but can’t say for sure. You can connect OBD diagnosis and check throttle position at different levels (twisting throttle). Bike could be in ignition no need to start. If you find any anomaly with the throttle percentage with twisting throttle it could be the potentiometer.
@@Mr.BadMechanic I used torque lite app available in play store. It can just read codes stored in the ECU and clear it. Not much can be done on DVT onwards models
Very good video. I've had the same issue with my sensor inside the epoxy: the crimped metal connection broke. Due to vibration or thermal expansion, whatever. In my opinion this is a major design failure so your repairable solution is a very good solution. Needs bullet-proof insulation against petrol since the sensor is right above the cyylinder. Sudden smell is a warning if it would start to leak. ;-) Next time I make the repairable gasket solution as well, thanks for the idea.
Thank you. Just for reference I’ve used NBR rubber for gaskets (make sure it is fuel resistant, there are different types) and PO plastic for the rest of the part. After few weeks of riding no leaks. Best of luck!
Great video. Just taken mine apart and looking for the right epoxy. I see that you used the Permatex 84115 5-Minute Plastic Weld Adhesive and was wondering whether is safe and resistant to petrol / gas.
I ended up making my own part at the end. For the epoxy, I would google search for the correct epoxy (the one that resistant to fuel) great question though! If you figure which one works, please post here for others 😉
@@Mr.BadMechanic the joke is .. this model does not have one, only reserve light. a lot of people ask for it, including me. i would pay pretty peeny to have it retrofitted
@@Mr.BadMechanic nah, don't focus on ECU externaly mounted indicator would be fine. there are plethora of ducatistas finding excuses on why its not possible (tank shape, costs, vibration etc). it all sounds like nonsense to me.
I’ve looked into streetfighter tank, the fuel sensor could be simply zip tied to a fuel pump. I think you could use any kind of sensor (tubular shape) as for electrical part perhaps something like raspberry pi and small screen would work. I’m not an IT guy so can’t really tell if it would work.
Excellent video! I have the same problem, I will do the second option. Can you share the design(project) of the pieces and what material you used, please?
Great vid and I agree with the other comments...you sir are a genius. Would you consider repairing my fuel level guage? or would you be able to machine extra seals as you did in Option B? I would obviously pay you for them. I figure this is a better fix and would rather send you money than to actually buy a replacement gauge that will likely fail again. Please let me know. I own a 2014 MTS 1200S the OEM part number is 59210211B. Thank you!
You sir, are what we call a fu%*ing genius - never was there a more deserving sub!
That’s way to kind of you. Thanks!

You have to sell it, I’ll give you 50$ 😎 lovely bike 👌
I sold my Ducati, but even so, this video was very instructive and a pleasure to watch.
Mine had this problem, by the way.
Can’t believe how many people have this problem. This should have been a recall.

When I grow up I want to be like you 😁 fantastic vid thanks a lot. Are you planning any more multi maintenance vids? They’d be greatly appreciated 👍🏻
Thanks for kind words 🥹 yes I do have some ideas for the future with multistrada, DIY easy work on maintenance 😉
nicely done! you've got mad skills!
Thanks a lot!
Very impressed with video, just straight to it. Could you create all the parts and sell it as an upgrading kit? As i dont have a laser cutter.

What OBD software do you use? I have tried Melcodiag with little success…

Great video. Also a great solution - if you have a laser cutter. Alas that rules most of us out - you should consider selling the gaskets 😁
Thank you. 😊

Woaw!
Can you fix it for my StreetFighter V4S!?
Hi, you can find the file link in the description 😉 can’t believe so many Ducati bikes affected by this issue…
@@Mr.BadMechanicAhah no no it’s a joke there is no fuel jauge on that bike 😅

Did the issue came back after repairing the fuel sensor? Or is it a permanent fix once repaired?
After few months and several hundred miles so far no issues, no leaks, everything works perfectly fine.

Hi, thank you for kind words. Check out description I’ve added files for the part you’re looking for, you can make the part yourself.
EXRTEMELY important notice -> epoxy glue NEEDS to be petrol resistant ! which is very rare and hard if not impossible to find !!
Yes that’s true! 🙃

thank you
hahaha its a really great tutorial, will try on my SS 2017. Shame that ducati engineers didn't do that from factory
Best of luck mate! Hope it works.
