Ducati Multistrada 1200 Fuel Sensor Bypass

  • This one’s for my fellow Multistrada riders.
    After scrubbing the interwebs for a way to stop the annoying flashing amber warning that accompanies the all to familiar fuel sensor failure, I’ve finally come across the an easy and relatively inexpensive method to bypass the fuel sensor. Bear in mind that this should be considered as a temporary measure until you replace the fuel sensor, as this will force a constant full tank to be displayed on your dashboard
    Here’s what you will need:
    Sumitomo HM-2P connector and pins
    Honda p/n: 07VPZ-002040A
    KTM p/n: 000700000CK
    220ohm 1% 1/4-watt resistor (for FULL reading)
    A bit of electrical tape or heat shrink tubing.
    Note: I have a 2010 MTS1200 with the D-spec fuel sensor and firmware update. Use a 50k ohm resistor if you like the constant blinking and an empty reading or you have the original A/B/C-spec fuel sensor and firmware (ouch!).

    Thank you for your video! After 3 modern Multis without this issue, my 4th (2016 Pikes Peak with its D series sensor) gave me this issue. Bought a variety pack of resistors from Amazon and found the 51k Ohm 1/4 Watt 1% resistor seems to be working on mine (Full tank, no flashing fuel indicator). Wish me luck!

    Thank you for the detailed solution, I have this issue on my 2018 Multi 950. I bought the variety pack on Amazon but did not have the 50k, so I used a 47k. Works fine shows as 90% full with the lower resistance LOL. Also, I just jammed mine in the female side covered with tape and put the male back in all snug. In case anyone doesnt know you can use resistors in series to get your desired resistance e.g. 30k + 20k=50k or in my case 47k + 3k = 50k or whatever combo you have. If you do them in parrallel it reduces the resistance but you have to do some complicated math. Anyway cheers from Ohio!

    Hi, thanks for your video. I did it with exactly the same resistor, 220 ohms 1/4 watt, it works but it indicates that I'm always with low level fuel tank so I always have the orange light turned on... I suppose the resistance is not the good one, do you know which one I should use to have full or middle level fuel thank to avoid to have this orange light always turned on?
    Thanks for help.

    Just one important note! If your ducati is an older version (2010-2016), then it is important to use a 50k (50,000) ohm resistor. Because I put on a 220 ohm resistor first, and it didn't fit. There's a light on the fuel reserve all the time. Feel free to put in a 50k resistor and everything will be fine.

      Hi I have an older MTS 1000 DD my 7.2 error is doing my head in, I’ve already popped out the two pins in the original unit so I can solder a resistor on and replace them, but what size resistor would you recommend for the older bike? Basically would love it not to show empty, I was told the fuel sensor work from 300 to 3000 ohms, any help would be fantastic

    Hey Wingman, just bought a 2014 Multi Pikes Peak. No idea what version fuel sensor i have but looking for a bypass connector. Can't seem to find one and was hoping you may know. Doing the homemade version is something i would like to avoid....thx

    How do you replace the fuel sensor? Do you need to take out the entire pump assembly? Or can you swap it out solo? I have a M1200S from 2019 with fuel sensor issues. If its just the sensor Ill clean it/replace it myself. If I have to take out the entire assembly and put in a new gasket etc. I will bring it to the garage. I can do it but don't feel like it.

    How do you put this plug together? Why 1 resistor and not one on each side? What side of the plug do I install it. Does the blue thing on the resistor go inside the plug or does it stick out? When I ordered the 51k resistor I got the 1/4 watt one should I have ordered the 1/2 watt because there are more ohms. I don’t know anything about this stuff . Lastly what I normally do is add K100 to every tank and that works well. However the bike had to sit for a long time and now it’s flashing. Please advise.

    I'm about to order a G can you confirm the exact part number? My 2010 1200S already has a D so assume the software has already been done for later versions, not cheap but want to replace the faulty one, comfortable with the hassle of the dismantle too

    • @wingmansgarage382
      @wingmansgarage382  ปีที่แล้ว

      You will want to order 5921.021.2G. This part number is confirmed by Ducati Omaha’s online fiche.

    ordered the Honda part number via Amazon, but it didn't come with terminals or the caps. having a hard time finding the right terminals to use (male or female). any leads on that?

    • @wingmansgarage382
      @wingmansgarage382  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’ve tried to find just the pins and caps for the HM-2P connector, but not having any luck with a confirmed fit.
      As an alternative, I found this connector that already comes pre-wired and just needs the resistor soldered in. May be worth a shot.

      Alternatively, I may still have a couple of terminal pins/caps in the garage somewhere…

    Thanks for this video! FWIW, I have a 2016 with a 'D' model sensor and I needed the 50K in order for it to show full. 4.7k gave me 1/2 tank, if that's desirable for someone.

      Give the 50k a go. I’ve found that the results are dependent on which firmware version your Multi has. I believe that the ‘13-up will read full with the 50k.
