arcticapple99 You always get to hear that with Actresses round table, they just love to do "I loved you in..." and true or not, we don't want to hear that, we want to hear what goes through the whole process and how deep they can become with acting.
So be fair, they do the same thing in the Actor's Roundtable, and to take a moment to appreciate someone's work, the work that brought them to the table in the first place, has its place.
This is the best roundtable to date. Deakins, Delhomme AND Pope?! You got the three best cinematographers in the West there, and a fascinating lively discussion by all.
Very misleading click-bait title. That being said, I thoroughly enjoyed this roundtable. And the hosts were wonderful. They seemed genuinely curious, knowledgeable, and respectful of the guests and let the guests talk.
Wow this was amazing to watch, it makes you realize that beside the fact that these heavily talented guys are workhorses and do a job that not many others would not have the skill, courage, and patience to even attempt what they do; They are still film lovers at heart and can put aside their work and work-mentality to sit and enjoy a movie just like anyone else would (if not more!).
30:42 in theory, that's true. However, when the Alexa is the only camera chosen to shoot features and tv shows, there really isn't much of a choice in cameras.
This was absolutely fantastic ... amazing insight into how some of the worlds best work and their thoughts. Thank you and maybe fix the title? Interstellar was Hoytema?
I know that if I was a film critic, one of the first things I would highlight is the cinematography. That's one of the most important things in a film to me. It's what separates good films from great films.
This 39:56minutes was really worth watching......and yah its true that even they are working with bad directors, cinematographer's will do the best to not damahe their own reputation...
I wonder about the sincerity of Dick Pope's comment that they didn't use post digital effects in Mr. Turner, some of the wide landscape shots almost looked like they were straight out of Lord of the Rings.
He said in another interview that the lenses he used brought the color pallet he needed just in the lens. Something about an old set of Cooke speed panchro's I think.
He said in another interview that he used an old set of lenses that brought the color pallet that mimicked the real turner's paintings, Cooke speed panchro lenses I think he called them. Teal blue in the shadow areas and a bit of yellow in the highlights. I don't know what they did to the skin tones, though. Maybe neutral skin tones?
Inherent Vice was one of the most beautifully shot films of the year, not least because of its dirty quality. So I disagree with Mr. Pope, and I think it's bad form for a cinematographer to publicly bash another cinematographer's work.
The journalist should of been up front from the beginning by saying, "We invited you here to hear about the famous people you work with. Now please name drop". Weak!!
The DP from Noah looks so out of place. Not only because hes the film school type thats competitive yet insecure about his work, but Noah did the worst in theaters compared to the others.
Hoyte van Hoytema isn't here! Please don't confuse us with the title!
What the fuck were they implying with that title then? Disgusting misleading companies...
Luis Hindman Yes and the title says "Interstellar" but Hoytema isn't there.
The should do such roundtables with every member of the crew. Editors, sound editors, makeup designers etc.
This is the Hollywood Reporter Roundtable - The Craft Services
Bill N That made me actually laugh out loud.
Bill N
"So what sandwich was your biggest challenge?"
They should do roundtables for people who make round tables.
Good idea, but that would have to be one big-ass table...
they all keep glancing at roger for approval when they are making their points lol
Would've loved to see Lubezki join this roundtable! Great episode, looking forward to the actors!
Yes he needs to be in one.
The last ten minutes are brilliant. It was one bloody good roundtable, if you asked me.
I like the episodes that aren't about actors more. Actor episodes end up talking about celebrity and self-congratulating.
Will Bad Yeah there's only so much of ..."you're wonderful"..."no, you're wonderful"... that I can take.

Agyeiwaa Asante
I don't disagree.
Hard to belive that this is all free to watch, no Hoytema but still a very exceptional roundtable- inspiring and informative.
This is the best roundtable to date. Deakins, Delhomme AND Pope?! You got the three best cinematographers in the West there, and a fascinating lively discussion by all.
where is INTERSTELLAR again
I so appreciate the mediators for not interrupting them when the DP's find interesting conversation to take on.
Incorrect title! No Hoyte Van Hoytema in this
Don't advertise Interstellar when Hoyte Van Hoytema isn't present. Very disrespectful.
Very misleading click-bait title. That being said, I thoroughly enjoyed this roundtable. And the hosts were wonderful. They seemed genuinely curious, knowledgeable, and respectful of the guests and let the guests talk.
Why do you say INTERSTELLAR when Hoyte van Hoytema isn't even there?!?!
17:13 I love that everybody laughed after the question which essentially was 'was anyone directing on a david fincher set other than david fincher?'
Definitely one of the better roundtables. I could just keep watching this. Wish it was longer like the other roundtables on here.
Holy shit, this was cool, i wish it was 3 hours+
Please remove Interstellar form the title! Hoyte is not part of the round table!
yeah
Roger Deakins. God.

i've waited all year for this!
Chivo better be at the next roundtable! He's my favorite DP!
+Austin Putnam he doesn't like video interviews so he didn't want to
+Nicolas Labra Would he do it if it was shot on film?
+Austin Putnam Word to that!!
Great panel! I agree with Benoit. "Expose the film how you want it to be seen. Direct the light where you want the audience to look." Amazing artists.
30:42 in theory, that's true. However, when the Alexa is the only camera chosen to shoot features and tv shows, there really isn't much of a choice in cameras.
Please make more of these! I loved this so much.
great words roger deakins
Awesome roundtable for DPs. I wished they had a square table.
I feel like these are getting shorter every year... I like hour+ long videos!!!
This was absolutely fantastic ... amazing insight into how some of the worlds best work and their thoughts. Thank you and maybe fix the title? Interstellar was Hoytema?
wanted Hoyte Van Hoytema, still great but don't lie in the tittle please
I know that if I was a film critic, one of the first things I would highlight is the cinematography. That's one of the most important things in a film to me. It's what separates good films from great films.
Fantastic! That's truly cool. Thank you for this video.nice
Gone girl - such a visually stunning film
Wonderful discussion.
Wtf title says interstellar but no Hoyte Van Hoytema
these guys are awesome
I was hoping to see Hoyte Van Hoytema :(
It would be great to see an editors and production designer roundtable.
Although Roger Deakins is a god of cinematography
Can we please make a round table with Roger Deakins, Hoyte Van Hoytema, Chivo Lubezki and Greig Fraser in it.
Fantastic content, thank you for this.
Very enjoyable and informative. But waaaaay too short.
a bit too short
great roundtable though
Great roundtable but uh, THR, I was expecting Hoyt to be here since it says INTERSTELLAR. Can you fix the title please?

Deakins was really amazing.....
there should be a production assistant round table
For all the poeple, who ask where Interstellar is in this video...the movie is just a topic of discussion on the roundtable. Even without Hoytema.
As others have said, needs Hoyte van Hoytema... You know, Interstellar's DP...
they should do a special effects roundtable
My flatulence is incredible right now.
Inherent Vice was one of the most beautifully shot films of the year, not least because of its dirty quality. So I disagree with Mr. Pope, and I think it's bad form for a cinematographer to publicly bash another cinematographer's work.
Knowing that film I have an inclination to believe it was intentional. They produced a 'grindhouse' trailer for it.
Ultimate table: Deakins, Pfister, Lubeski, Cronenweth
Where is Hoyte van Hoytema???
I would have loved to gain some insight from the Interstellar cinematographer. Change the title.
No Hoyte van Hoytema?
Where is Hoyte!?
Interesting, kinda wish Lubezki (Birdman) and Young (Selma) were there too.
I was looking forward to hearing from Hoyte, don't lie in your title just to get views. Disliked.
really no editors roundtable....
Interestellar?
Interstellar?!?!?!?!
one of these things is not like the other
Too short and too much has been cut.
14:30 I believe him. Legend's cinematography sucked balls
Both Photos were of Garbo.
where are the women?
in the kitchen, for a change
Interstellar?????
